Famous televised police chase endings include a stolen timber lorry which ignited in flames and a school bus hijacking in Miami where the suspect was killed in a shootout. In Monday's chase, the suspect was caught when his vehicle got wedged between two cars. Fleeing on foot, we see him arrested live on air, as the TV commentator frantically urges his pilot to find a better angle. The morality of showing this on TV - and the danger of glorifying carjackers - has long been debated. But on Monday the local Fox, CBS and NBC stations all screened the chase....

Anthony Weiner can’t stop getting himself into trouble on social media. The disgraced ex-congressman ignited a juvenile Twitter war with Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday when Weiner poked fun at the governor’s decision last month to shut down the transit system Jan. 26 in preparation for the “blizzard” that wasn’t. “Sunday’s gonna be cold. Governor Cuomo will soon be closing the subway,” tweeted Weiner, who in 2011 resigned in disgrace over a sexting scandal. The governor’s staffers weren’t going to let Weiner’s crack pass, and fired back. “Yes, it is going to be cold. A good reason to keep your...

And for at least another two months, it will still be either colder or snowier than usual in many of our states. This week in particular would be the time to ask questions or grill both Al Gore and John Kerry. So this is Global Warming? Did Al Gore ever claim that sooner or later we will see the long expected results of global warming as some major cities will be buried under six feet of snow? And the northeast region can expect to be hit by significant snow storms almost every week right through February? So where is Al...

From “Commuting in America 2013″ via AASHTO. Lots of growth in private transportation, but public transit, telecommuting and walking to work have stayed fairly flat. Despite prognostications of a newly urbanized populace that’s hungry for public transportation, the statistics seem to tell a different story.

They say correlation does not imply causation, but everyone knows that maxim does not apply to the Internet, where we can safely assume all sorts of things, like how this frigid weather is responsible for a surprising lack of homicides in NYC. The NYPD says the city is currently enjoying its longest murder-free stretch in recent history—probably because it's so damn cold that murderers aren't about to do their intended victims any favors. Why not let them suffer through this nasty weather and then resume killing once it's nice out again? It's been 11 days without a homicide in NYC,...

When Iraqi tribal leaders came to D.C. looking for help against ISIL, the White House refused. Then the former president made a call. Late in the evening of Sunday, January 18, an eleven-member delegation of tribal leaders from Iraq’s western Anbar Province arrived in Washington, D.C. Just as their plane was touching down, Islamic State units back in Iraq attacked the compound of one of the delegation’s senior leaders, Sheik Ahmed Abu Risha, killing nine Iraqi police officers and wounding 28 of the sheik’s guards. A nearby Iraqi military unit failed to respond to repeated calls for help. The brutal...

FEBRUARY 11--With its swift and severe punishment of Brian Williams, NBCUniversal declared yesterday that it will not stand for on-air talent lying to viewers. Now that the media conglomerate has delineated that bright line, when does the Rev. Al Sharpton’s suspension without pay begin? In the wake of last year’s lengthy TSG report about Sharpton’s secret work as a paid FBI Mafia informant, the MSNBC host sought to blunt the story’s disclosures with a series of lies told at a pair of press conferences, on his nightly “Politics Nation” program, and in a report on Williams’s own NBC Nightly News...

LANSING, MI -- Today is the 206th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, one of the greatest U.S. presidents. There's a lot to be thankful to Lincoln for: guiding the country through the Civil War and helping end slavery. But residents of Michigan have something special to thank the 16th president for. He coined the term many of us use to describe ourselves: Michigander. There is an ongoing debate about if Michigan citizens should be described as Michiganians or Michiganders. Lincoln coined the term Michigander when he was in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1848, Lincoln gave a speech against...

The board decided that to avoid legal action, it had to ban Bibles and any other religious material from being passed out to students. …

A telecoms sales manager sent his staff a text message urging them to ‘blow away’ the competition at a trade show – and the Muslim man ended up in jail. Quebec sales chief Saad Allami, 41, said the message was intended to pump up his staff – but it led to a team of police officers storming his home and telling Allami’s wife he was a terrorist. Allami is now suing the Quebec police force for £65,000. He says he was arrested three hours after sending the message, while a squad of police officers conducted an ‘intrusive’ search of his...
