It's Too Cold To Murder Anybody In NYC

They say correlation does not imply causation, but everyone knows that maxim does not apply to the Internet, where we can safely assume all sorts of things, like how this frigid weather is responsible for a surprising lack of homicides in NYC. The NYPD says the city is currently enjoying its longest murder-free stretch in recent history—probably because it's so damn cold that murderers aren't about to do their intended victims any favors. Why not let them suffer through this nasty weather and then resume killing once it's nice out again?

It's been 11 days without a homicide in NYC, which police say is the longest stretch since the department starting tracking murder gap stats with computers in 1994. “Weather is definitely a factor,” one police source confidently tells the NY Post, which reports that the most recent murder was the result of a Harlem shooting the night of the Super Bowl.

There's a Chicago site that's been tracking and breaking down the murders in the Windy City for a few years.

They took to task Chicago officials bragging about the drop in murders, pointing out that it's down so dramatically (for the same period last year) because of the weather: Last year was unseasonably warm, encouraging malefactors to get out and do what malefactors do, and there was a blizzard this year, dampening same from doing what they wanted to do.
