OCEANSIDE — A county probation officer shot and killed a dog that lunged at her in an aggressive manner Wednesday night in the backyard of an Oceanside house, police said. SNIP The probation officer went into the backyard, where the pit bull-mix came after her, the lieutenant said. She shot the dog to protect herself, he said.

In pursuit of a dangerous black male killer, Los Angeles Police Department officers mistook two Latina woman for the suspect and fired one hundred shots. Then, Torrance Officer Brian McGee thought he saw the suspect’s vehicle and rammed into it at full speed, nearly killing the innocent driver, David Perdue, a white man. McGee also fired three shots at Perdue. But L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey has decided not to press charges against McGee, since his error was “a reasonable mistake.”

BENTON (KATV) - A veteran Benton police officer was charged with raping a minor. Forty-two-year-old Lt. Monte L. Hodge was arrested Wednesday for allegedly raping an underage male relative. According to police, the victim was raped and threatened repeatedly by Hodge for several years. The boy finally broke his silence a day after being raped one last time. "He just broke down and told me he had something to tell me and he told me," said the victim's friend, who chose to remain anonymous. And what the victim told this friend was horrifying.

An altercation between two couples at a Wesley Chapel movie theater Monday led to a shooting that left a man dead, authorities said. The suspect was identified as Curtis Reeves, a retired Tampa police officer. He has been arrested on a charge of second-degree homicide. A South Carolina man who killed a police dog during a gunfight and chase has pleaded guilty and will serve 35 years in prison, officials said. Maurice McCreary, 24, admitted he fired a half-dozen shots at officers who were pursuing him after an armed robbery Dec. 16, 2011. A North Carolina family is mourning the loss of their 18 year old son after he was shot and killed by a police officer. Mark Wilsey called 911 for police assistance with his son Keith, who was having a schizophrenic incident and threatened his mother with a small screwdriver. The number of law-enforcement officers killed by firearms in 2013 fell to levels not seen since the 19th century, according to a report released Monday. The annual report from the nonprofit National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund also found that deaths in the line of duty generally fell by 8 percent and were the fewest since 1959.
