The Washington Post reports that yesterday’s record snowfall resulted in an impromptu mass snowball fight in downtown Washington DC. While some may have been celebrating an upcoming white Christmas, it appears that the Metropolitan Police Department may have already received the best from Santa. A plainclothes detective was stopped at the intersection when his burgundy Hummer (a $40k+ vehicle) was hit with snowballs. Video shows him get out of his stylish ride and draw his service sidearm. He then drops his comm unit and bends to pick it up out of the snowy street, all while holding his handgun pointed...

Well, as it turns out, Washington DC residents know exactly how much of a joke 911 is in their own town, after a cop. Pulled a gun. On kids. Throwing snowballs. Yeah, and they're reading this cop the riot act.
-
According to an eyewitness, a D.C. Police detective went nuts after kids pelted his Hummer with snowballs at 14th and U streets NW this afternoon. The cop got out of his car and started waving his gun around. He did not immediately identify himself as a police officer. He calmed down once his fellow police arrived. Apparently, someone called 911 to report a man with gun. The snowball fight had been well hyped on Twitter. The news of the incident first broke there. We caught up with an eyewitness moments ago. Photos and video to come.

Cop's Two Shots Kill Small Dog By Nicholas Briano Police fatally shot a small pug dog in the head last week while responding to a call on a quiet Edgemere block, telling superiors that the dog attacked them outside its Beach 43 Street home. According to police sources, patrol cars had responded to the house next door on a child endangerment call. Prior to the cop's...

NORFOLK Jurors decided Wednesday that Philip Harvey should get $13,000 for being bitten by the police dog of Gordon Barry, who mistakenly shot and killed a fellow police officer during a disturbance in Young Terrace. Harvey sued Barry, saying the officer acted recklessly when he loosed his police dog in a crowded courtyard on the 400 block of Nicholson Street in May 2006. Barry testified that he believed his actions would save the life of Harvey’s brother, Denardo, who was in a confrontation with an armed man. The armed man turned out to be Officer Seneca Darden, who had responded...

The letter extols Giovanni DeMaio’s "love and understanding," his efforts to raise money for a young girl with cancer, his propensity for treating others "as he treats his own children." The gushing note was one of more than 90 written on behalf of DeMaio, a reputed organized crime associate facing sentencing for possessing a trove of illegal weapons. What caught the attention of federal prosecutors, however, was the name signed at the bottom: John Pinzone, police chief in the Bergen County community of Fairview. Odder still, prosecutors say: Pinzone didn’t mention he was dating DeMaio’s daughter. That omission drew an...

Washington, D.C.'s Maryland suburbs are the home the latest jurisdiction to let political correctness put Americans at risk from criminal aliens. The indefensible policy of Montgomery County bars county police officers from communicating with federal immigration authorities, unless the suspect has first committed a terrible crime. Even then, officers must get permission to call ICE. This kind of “blame the good guys” policy disrupts the healthy information-sharing that is necessary for effective law enforcement. It puts police officers at risk from foreign-born criminals and gangsters, unduly creating life-threatening situations and a disadvantage for local badge carriers. And it subjects native-born...

Hundreds of police officers and other customers lined up early Saturday for the reopening of the Washington state coffee shop where four officers were shot and killed two weeks ago. Bagpipers played as the Forza Coffee shop opened its doors at 8:14 a.m., the hour on Nov. 29 when Maurice Clemmons ambushed Lakewood Police Sgt. Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold and Greg Richards. Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar was the first customer. He hugged patrons who turned out to reclaim the shop from tragedy. Some waited up to three hours in line. "It's just so heartwarming," Farrar...

Parolee held in cop's death Suspect in Penn Hills killings could have served time until February The man charged with killing a Penn Hills police officer was out of prison on parole after serving the minimum of a 21/2- to 5-year sentence for a firearms conviction. Ronald Robinson would have remained in prison until February had he served his maximum sentence for illegally possessing a handgun in 2005. But the state's parole board released him in 2007, determining that "the interests of the commonwealth will not be injured." The nation was stunned by the senseless and savage cold-blooded murders of four young police officers in Lakewood, Wash., over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Whenever a police officer or soldier is killed, the loss is even more profound, for they are the ones who stand between our way of life and total anarchy. Nine years ago, the name Maurice Clemmons crossed my desk. I commuted his sentence from 108 years to 47 years. I take full responsibility for my actions of nine years ago. I acted on the facts presented to me in 2000. If I could have possibly known...

The left's police-hating chickens are coming home to roost. While partisan liberals have gone out of their way to blame conservative media and the Tea Party movement for creating a "climate of hate," they are silent on the cultural and literal war on cops that has raged for decades -- and escalated tragically this year. The total number of law enforcement officers shot and killed this year is up 19 percent over last year, according to the Christian Science Monitor. More officers have died in ambush incidents this year than in any other since 2000. The Lakewood, Wash., massacre on...

Working with the Army in the early 1970s, Mr. Shubin helped develop the first vests made of Kevlar, an extraordinarily strong fabric invented by the DuPont Company. At the time he was a program manager with the National Institute of Justice, an arm of the United States...

Nov. 24, 2009 – When considering a charge of battery to a law enforcement officer, the officer must be in the course of performing official duties – but the officer need not be acting lawfully. In State v. Las Vegas Metro Police Officer and Marine veteran Trevor Nettleton was murdered by alleged gang members during a robbery of his home, and there's some moving video of his funeral services. A retired Minneapolis police sergeant leaped onto a burning boat in a Florida harbor north of Fort Myers, picked up and moved one badly injured woman, and then another, onto other boats, then got off the distressed vessel seconds before it was rocked by the second of two explosions.
