“People have been waiting a long time for this,” said Ducks forward Emerson Etem, who grew up rooting for the Kings in his native Long Beach. “It’s huge for the game down here.” And it’s huge for the Los Angeles sports scene, which has never experienced a matchup quite like the series that begins in Orange County on Saturday night. The Lakers and the Clippers have never met in the NBA postseason. The Dodgers and the Angels have never reached the World Series together. The Rams and the Raiders never reached the Super Bowl at the same time when they...

Michael Rood begins to explore the book of Judges in this week's episode: The Last Judges. The context and lessons gleaned are vital even for our lives today. The people ask for a king, and they get one. But man ruling over man will eventually cause disaster. If only the people had understood they had a king all along...

Descendants of Richard III won a court battle on Friday over where to bury the medieval monarch, whose bones were found under a car park last year, but were urged not to embark on a legal version of the Wars of the Roses in which the king died. In one of the most remarkable archaeological finds in English history, a skeleton with a cleaved skull and a curved spine was formally identified as Richard's remains by DNA testing in February this year. Depicted by William Shakespeare as a deformed tyrant who murdered his two young nephews to strengthen his grip...

Mike Hastings, 71, was a real-life aristocrat, born the 14th earl of Loudoun, who moved to Australia in 1960 in search of adventure. He made international headlines in 2004 when a Channel Four documentary team conducted extensive research into the monarchy and concluded his ancestors were cheated out of the crown in the 15th century. Hastings, an avowed republican, died on June 30 and was buried today in Jerilderie, about 465 miles southwest of Sydney, the local Wagga Wagga Daily Advertiser reported. He was a descendant of England's House of York, whose dynastic struggle with the House of Lancaster became...

The President Who Would Be King A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet Obama’s past is so vague and so little is known about the man before he won a seat in the Senate that it is extremely difficult to refer to times and places in his past. But I do seem to recall that he was said to have been a constitutional expert and even TAUGHT the US Constitution at some college or other. If so, it is more than a little interesting. See. Here’s the thing: IF Obama taught the US Constitution then he knows that America opted for...

Here’s a tip for you: Listening to really, really loud sounds over long periods of time can damage your hearing. Perhaps you already knew that. But a few years back, a group of clever trial lawyers decided they could make some serious money by arguing in court that you are too stupid to know it yourself. They filed 26 consumer-fraud lawsuits in multiple states against Motorola and other manufacturers of Bluetooth headsets. They alleged that consumers were not warned sufficiently about the dangers, and that they “would not have purchased their Bluetooth headsets but for defendants’ false advertising.” That led...

As the Anaheim City Council gets ready to vote in a few hours on issuing bonds to fund improvements to that city's Honda Center - the possible future home of the Sacramento Kings - there's still work being done on the home front. State Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, is considering a request by city officials to carry a bill barring Anaheim from moving forward on the bond unless Sacramento is guaranteed the Kings will pay off a loan they owe City Hall.

MASSAPEQUA PARK, N.Y. — Opponents and supporters chanted outside the district office of Long Island Congressman Peter King, who plans hearings on radical Islam. About 200 noisy but peaceful protesters — split about evenly “for” and “against” — were watched by at least 30 police officers in Massapequa Park. Christian, Jewish and Muslim opponents of the hearings had billed their event Tuesday as an interfaith “pray-in.” They’re urging the House Committee on Homeland Security chairman not to hold controversial hearings on what he calls the “radicalization” of some American Muslims.

Kings: A 21st-Century Notion Today’s idea: In political crises from Europe to Asia, monarchy suddenly seems relevant again as a glue of democracy, safeguard against disorder and protector of rights. World | The latest exploits of the Duchess of York — caught on video apparently peddling access to her ex-husband, Prince Andrew — might leave you skeptical as to the merits of royalty. But in The Boston Globe, Joshua Kurlantzick argues that “Long live the King!” is perhaps a better idea than “Off with their heads!”

This concept of self-government was in contrast to the established "divine right" of kings; something which many statists and elitists seem to now embrace - at least in the abstract - as long as it is they who are the "kings." They are, unwittingly, "conservatives" as opposed to true classical liberalism in that they think only they have the right to rule the rest of us due, not to their blood lines as kings, but to their ostensibly superior intelligence. . .

The chief of state of a nation does not bow to the chief of state of another nation. The American flag does not dip to anyone. A leader is not merely a politician; he is the representative of his people. And we bow only before the Almighty, not before any man.
