CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico — Gunmen stormed into a bar, dragged out eight people and killed them in the parking lot, the first of several shootings in this violent border city Wednesday that left 16 dead, including a man in a wheelchair. In one incident, a car chase and shootout killed three people in front of an elementary school, creating a panic among students, teachers and parents. Battles between rival drug gangs have made Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas, one of the world's deadliest cities. More than 800 people have been killed this year in the city...

As white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche is buried, the dangerously charismatic Julius Malema threatens the country's future. We are not here to mourn the white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche, whose funeral took place yesterday, but since his name is on the world's lips, let's face the truth: the saddest thing about his murder last weekend is that it obscured an event that casts an infinitely darker shadow. The event took place in Zimbabwe, and involved, as fate would have it, Julius Malema, the ANC Youth League leader whose repeated singing of an old struggle song about shooting Boers is viewed by many...

MOSCOW — Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on Moscow's subway system as it was jam-packed with rush-hour passengers Monday, killing at least 37 people and wounding 102, officials said. Picture from Mar 20,2010 Rally at the US Capital As is typical of our political elite who style themselves as heroes to the cause of the underprivileged we see in the current health care legislation the cumulation of their arrogance. The President wants to debate in terms of generalities and totally disregard for specifics of a bill that will without a doubt increase the burden of government debt and control over the health care of each and every citizen especially those citizens who are already "doing the right thing". If one is responsible and has health care and contributes to...

Searching for health care votes with the desperation of...well...a family without medical insurance trying to pay a hospital bill, Nancy Pelosi must find the temptation nearly irresistible. With skittish House Democrats reluctant to ratify the heavy-handed compromises in the Senate health care bill such as the reviled Nebraska-only Cornhusker kickback, Pelosi is beguiled with a parliamentary gambit that would avoid such an awkward vote. Under a congressional sleight-of-hand called "deem and pass," House approval of fixes in the Senate bill (including rescinding the Cornhusker kickback) would be considered identical to actually passing the politically troublesome original Senate legislation. If you...

There are those, certainly not me, who are very qualified to handicap the voting scheduled for this Sunday on the health care bill, like John McCormack at this link. All I know is that they don't have the votes now in the House of Representatives, and that it's not passed until and unless it actually is passed. There is still a mountain to climb and the real hope, from my point of view, that some rocks will fall down on those clambering their way up. But on a broader level, there's this fact, which even I, from my perch in...

Dear friends, Leaders in Congress have set the new deadline for the healthcare for this Sunday 3/21. Rather than passing the bill with a straightforward up-or-down vote, members of Congress are pushing to use the “Slaughter solution”, a parliamentary technique to pass a bill without voting on it, in order to pass this healthcare monstrosity. I need your help to get to Washington to “kill this bill.” Please donate $5, $10, $25 or whatever you can afford to help kill this bill by this Sunday 3/21. If you honor me with your support, I will go to Washington and repeal...

This is America and leftist filmmaker Robert Greenwald and his ilk have every right to wage a propaganda war to pressure the History Channel to kill their upcoming JFK miniseries. The miniseries’ script might not be done yet, but that’s how we roll in this country and until Senator Harry Reid steps in and threatens to put the History Channel out of business, like he did ABC in order to muscle a “Path to 9/11″ edit to his and the Clintons’ liking, Greenwald and Co. can all knock themselves out. And knocking themselves out they are: a website, petition, videos,...

SYDNEY (AFP) – People who spend more than four hours in front of the television each day have a far higher risk of dying early than those who limit their viewing, an Australian study said Tuesday.
