If a year ago someone told me I would be an advocate of Donald Trump, I would have laughed, because everyone knew he was a joke with a toupee. But on August 27, 2015, at a rally in Greenville, South Carolina, when Mary Margaret Bannister pulled his hair, we learned he does not wear a wig. And in researching my upcoming book, "Trump The Press," I learned he is no joke. He has developed the leadership skills needed to lead the free world. In December 2014, Peter Economy of Inc. magazine wrote, "The Top 10 Skills Every Great Leader Needs...
  • Malkin: North Carolina Subsidizes American Worker Sabotage

Why does North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory hate American workers? McCrory’s GOP administration is a serial offender when it comes to using tax dollars to lure Indian offshore outsourcing firms to the U.S. Deon Roberts at the Charlotte Observer reported this weekend on the state’s subsidies for companies that use or specialize in H-1B visa workers. Roberts mentioned New Jersey-based Spectra Group, which received “a $2.9 million grant to create 250 jobs in Charlotte” and then applied for 10 H-1Bs, and top outsourcing firm HCL Technologies, which snagged $19 million in state grants in 2014 and then filed initial H-1B...

As we reach the middle of the 21st century, half the population of the world will lose their job to a machine. The latest comes from Moshe Vardi, professor at Rice University , Houston, who delivered a talk to the American Association for the Advancement of Science , exploring the question: "If machines are capable of doing almost any work humans can do, what will humans do?" Vardi reckons that half of workers across the globe will be replaced by machines within the next 30 years, wiping out middle-class jobs and "exacerbating inequality". He noted that robots would take over...
  • The knowledge economy is a myth. We don’t need more universities to feed it

Governments around the world believe that to remain competitive in a global economy they must become smarter. In an attempt to boost its knowledge intensiveness, the UK government has just launched a plan to overhaul the university sector. It aims to transform universities by creating many more of them. The hope is that this will increase the number of people with degrees, and the UK will be a more competitive economy. The idea of the knowledge economy is appealing. The only problem is it is largely a myth. Developed western economies such as the UK and the US are not...

JOSH EARNEST, WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN: I've been reacting to jobs numbers here at the White House for more than seven years, and what is true today has been true in the past. Which is, we don't get too excited when jobs numbers are better than expected and we don't get too disappointed when jobs numbers one-month are lower than expected. We're taking a look at the longer-term trends, and over the past six months we have seen wage growth above three percent. That is a positive sign. That is a positive sign. Job growth has been over 165,000 over the...
  • Payrolls Huge Miss: Only 38,000 Jobs Added In May; Worst Since September 2010 (gold price soaring)

If anyone was "worried" about the Verizon strike taking away 35,000 jobs from the pro forma whisper number of 200,000 with consensus expecting 160,000 jobs, or worried about a rate hike by the Fed any time soon, you can sweep all worries away: moments ago the BLS reported that in May a paltry 38,000 jobs were added, a plunge from last month's downward revised 123K (was 160K). The number was the lowest since September 2010! There is no way to spin this number as anything but atrocious.

A forestry company filed a civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) lawsuit against Greenpeace Tuesday for misrepresenting the company’s environmental record to raise funds and promote its agenda. Greenpeace knowingly and deliberately made false claims about the company while fundraising, and fabricated evidence of Resolute’s alleged environmental malfeasance, according to the forestry and paper company Resolute Forest Products. RICO is an anti-mafia law designed to combat organized crime. Greenpeace’ is a global fraud,” states the 124-page legal complaint. “For years, this international network of environmental groups collectively calling themselves ‘Greenpeace’ has fraudulently induced people throughout the United States and...
  • Mexico: Surprising Jobs Off-Limits to Foreigners ("natural born" Mexican requirement)

Mexico has gone above and beyond to protect their citizens in the job market. There are several jobs, by law, that only a Mexican citizen can hold, and in some cases, that person has to be a natural born Mexican. Obviously many political positions have this requirement (e.g. president); however, Mexico has extended this to some jobs you would not expect. I have compiled a list of the ones that surprised me the most. Most of these were taken from the Federal Labor Law (Ley Federal del Trabajo).

It's been about eight years since the Great Recession, but California voters still rank jobs and the economy as the most important issue heading into the presidential primary election. That's one of the findings of a new Field Poll released Thursday, just 12 days before the June 7 runoff. Seven out of 10 likely voters across the political spectrum rated the economy as a top concern, according to results from the Field Poll conducted for the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy.

.....Despite the 1st amendment and his oath, Sen. Schumer (D-New York) says that religious Americans have a choice: hold their religious faith or go into business but, according to Sen. Schumer, religious people cannot both practice their faith and conduct business in America.... The first part of the answer is that...it became a given in the modern period that religion is an essentially private, theoretical matter. ....The second part of the answer is really a question. How did it come to be that, in America, a nation founded on the principle of the right of relatively unencumbered religious practice, in...

The Department of Labor has awarded Utica, New York, $2 million to teach young refugees how to build drones as part of a summer jobs program. About 400 teenage refugee students living in the city will get part-time summer jobs through the program, as well as tutoring in English and Math. Those who demonstrate academic competence will then take part in a year-long drone building challenge during the school year, as the work and tutoring continues. The 14- and 15-year-old refugee students will learn how to design a drone and then construct their own model using the lab of the...

So I wake up today hearing this HORSE CRAP rule regarding overtime....a move that is SO BEYOND the scope of a federal government it makes me want to scream. I have been largely absent from news today--is there ANY response on this at all?! I know Valerie told her little man to make this effective AFTER the election....but certainly this overreach can be fought in other ways. Any hope at all out there?

A few years back, the heavy-equipment manufacturer JCB held a job fair in the glass foyer of its sprawling headquarters near here, but when a throng of prospective employees learned the next step would be drug testing, an alarming thing happened: About half of them left. That story still circulates within the business community of this historic port city. But the problem has gotten worse. All over the country, employers say they see a disturbing downside of tighter labor markets as they try to rebuild from the worst recession since the Depression: They are struggling to find workers who can...

As a longstanding Reagan conservative, my initial preference was Ted Cruz; yet I would have voted for any of the candidates over Hillary. I held my nose for McCain and Romney, and hope some at least hold their noses and vote for Trump. However, I’d rather you do more than that, I’d rather you consider actually voting FOR Donald Trump. The case for Trump is a good one. ..... I found I liked what he said, but not him. Then the earthquake happened: Hillary attacked him as a misogynist and a sexist. Oh no, he’s done for now. But no,...

Donald Trump has spent his entire presidential campaign warning against the dangers of Mexican immigrants stealing American jobs, raping women and hauling drugs across the border. Now, Mexico is fighting back. Mexican officials are pursuing a counteroffensive to Trump’s incendiary rhetoric, reaching out to U.S. business leaders, looking at ways to better use social media, and even encouraging qualified Mexicans to get U.S. citizenship. But they’re also trying to stay sensitive about taking more high-profile steps, such as running TV ads in an already overheated presidential race that promote Mexico as a friendly, vibrant neighbor and not a cesspool of...

Oil and gas industry groups on Thursday sued federal agencies over revisions to land management plans in Colorado and other western states to protect the greater sage-grouse. The Western Energy Alliance and the North Dakota Petroleum Council filed the suit in North Dakota, saying the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service failed to follow proper procedures for public involvement in adopting the land use plan amendments. They also say the plans ignore sound science and will hurt western economies. Plan revisions being challenged include ones in northwest Colorado, where greater sage-grouse habitat substantially overlaps with oil and gas...

Applications for unemployment benefits unexpectedly increased last week to the highest level since February 2015, a sign that progress in the U.S. job market is moderating. Initial jobless claims rose by 20,000 to 294,000 in the week ended May 7, a report from the Labor Department showed Thursday. Something isn't clicking in the US labor market. On Tuesday, the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey — or JOLTS — report showed there were 5.757 million jobs available in the US in March, a near record. Additionally, the number of unemployed persons in the US per job open is down to pre-recession levels at about 1.5 workers per job. In 2010, for example, this number was closer to five unemployed workers per job opening. And while the abundance of jobs is often interpreted as a sign of strength in the labor market, there's a persistent and growing gap...

As President Obama's second term nears its end he has begun a media tour emphasizing what he claims are the positive aspects of his policies. The complicit media, of course, have long worked to inflate positive impressions of Obama’s legacy, and this latest set of interviews is no different. "In two recent interviews, with The New York Times Magazine on his economic legacy and with The Atlantic on his foreign policy legacy, Mr. Obama expressed a common sentiment: He had achieved big things and avoided even bigger mistakes, and yet most people just shrug," wrote Mark Landler for The New...
