Italian Americans have reacted with anger after two statues of Christopher Columbus in Chicago were removed under cover of darkness in the early hours of Friday morning under the orders of Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Before dawn, city crews used cranes to remove a monument in Chicago's Little Italy and a massive bronze statue in Grant Park, which were first erected at the city's first and second World's Fairs in 1893 and 1933, respectively. Early Friday morning the statue of Christopher Columbus was removed from the park bearing his name in the City of Buffalo. The Federation of Italian American Societies of WNY had the statue removed. Crews were working to remove the statue around 5 a.m. The organization said they removed the statue to provide an example of peaceful change in the community. The Federation requested that ownership of the statue be given to them. It will be relocated to somewhere that the Federation will determine at a later date. Nancy Sinatra Sr., the former wife of Frank Sinatra and mother of his three children, has died. She was 101. According to a tweet posted by Sinatra’s daughter Nancy, she died Friday. “My mother passed away peacefully tonight at the age of 101. She was a blessing and the light of my life. Godspeed, Momma. I was walking around Rutgers the other day when I came upon a memorial to students who had fought in World War II. The list of names was impressive, but I imagine most major universities in America have similar memorials. It was only when I happened to walk by Old Queens that I noticed something you wouldn't see on just any campus. It was a plaque honoring the Rutgers men who had fought in the Revolutionary War. Few men are more revered by Italian-Americans than Christopher Columbus. But as the Order of the Sons of Italy notes, the politically correct have transformed him from "a skilled sea captain and deeply religious man" to a "bloodthirsty, gold-hungry slave trader who destroyed the Garden of Eden civilizations." The troops fighting in Iraq usually keep quiet when they hear critics say the war is going poorly.  Command Sgt. Maj. Neil Ciotola is a notable exception.
