Editor's note: Sally Kohn is a progressive activist, columnist and television commentator. Follow her on Twitter @sallykohn. The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of the author. The protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, want justice for the unarmed black teenager shot and killed there by a police officer. But the protests also reflect broader patterns of racial injustice across the country, from chronic police violence and abuse against black men to the persistent economic and social exclusion of communities of color. In one sense, the unrest in Ferguson might be calmed if the government would simply release all the...

Huffington Post reporter Ryan Reilly made pretty much all of Twitter do a double-take, check again to make sure he wasn’t joking, then double over in laughter and ridicule. And he did it with just one little tweet:
-
There are no words to describe the absolutely incompetent tweet by Huffington Post “Justice Reporter” Ryan J. Reilly, who tweeted a photo of cheap foam earplugs and asked, “I believe these are rubber bullets, can anyone confirm? ‪

1 minute, 49 seconds - offered without comment on my part, other than to add she is a 34 yr old teacher who is anti-gun in a state like Montana. Wonder how much that will be discussed in the 90 days before the election.

Nicolle Wallace, former adviser to the McCain-Palin 2008 presidential campaign who worked with Steve Schmidt, appeared on The View on Thursday (3/10/2014) and gushed over Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, and even Bill Clinton. Predictably, however, she trashed Sarah Palin.

Former President Carter says climate skeptics are the "biggest handicap" for the U.S. when it comes to acting on global warming. “I would say the biggest handicap we have right now is some nutcases in our country that don’t believe in global warming,” Carter said Tuesday during the American Renewable Energy Day summit in Aspen, Colo. “I think they are going to change their position because of pressure from individuals, because the evidence of the ravages of global warming is already there," he added. The 39th president expressed frustration with the administration and Congress on their lack of efforts to...

Bill and Hillary Clinton are making the most of their downtime in the Hamptons. The former U.S. President and his ex-Secretary of State wife were pictured this morning enjoying a stroll on the beach in Amagansett, where they are paying $100,000 to rent an $18million five-bedroom property for three weeks. The couple, who were accompanied by their dogs as well as a Secret Service agent, were dressed in very casual clothes, with President Clinton decked out in black SoulCycle shorts and green sneakers and his wife in a bright blue muumuu and slippers.

Did you hear the one about a Republican Jon Stewart gunning for The Daily Show? Those waiting for the punchline will have to wait till fall, when The Flipside, a conservative take on political satire, hits the airwaves. Host Michael Loftus is a relative unknown, but as he’s planning to come after “insane liberals,” it’s time for an introduction. A fan of Ronald Reagan and John Adams, Loftus hopes to get Americans to toss political correctness aside for a free exchange of ideas. And if you say the American dream is dead, he gets really cross. He’s breaking into the...

t is the softly spoken radio show that provides good-natured help and advice to thousands of gardeners every week. So regular listeners to Gardeners’ Question Time may be horrified to discover it has been accused of peddling racial stereotypes. According to an academic, the sedate Radio 4 panel show is riddled with "racial meanings" disguised as horticultural advice. One current presenter, Bob Flowerdew, rubbished the idea, calling it “ridiculous”, and asked whether experts on the show “should stop using Latin names to avoid offending the Romans”. But Dr Ben Pitcher, a senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Westminster,...

Rick Perry has taken another step to being a national player and perhaps inching his way into a national presidential campaign. One of the ways is to make friends. On July 31, he filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to create a political committee called RickPAC. He intends to use the committee to donate contributions to like-minded Republicans. “It was set up to help fund candidates who agree with the governor’s priorities,” said spokesman Mark Miner.

Many of you probably heard about the “Halbig” decision, in which a federal court struck a blow against Obamacare by ruling that the IRS was wrong to arbitrarily grant subsidies for health insurance policies purchased through a federal exchange. And why did the judges rule against the IRS? Well, for the simple reason that the Obamacare legislation specifically says that subsidies are only available for policies purchased through exchanges set up by state governments. My Cato colleague Michael Cannon explains: The PPACA authorizes the IRS to issue health-insurance tax credits only to taxpayers who purchase coverage “through an Exchange established...

I was born in Tennessee. And even though I’ve lived in New York City for the past decade, I still take my tea sweet, my chicken fried and my biscuits buttered. I’m proud to call myself a gun-toting, Bible-clinging Tennessee Volunteer. So you can imagine my befuddlement when I learned the Oak Ridge National Laboratory wanted to crack down on workers who have Southern accents by holding a “Southern Accent Reduction” course. In other words, them government folks want to learn us rednecks how to talk right. Bless their hearts.Read More…

It’s safe to say CNN anchor Bill Weir is not a fan of climate change deniers. On Thursday, the Twitter account for Fox Nation, a blog run by Fox News, tweeted a link to a post headlined, “Climate Doesn’t Cooperate With Al Gore’s Group’s Visit to Denver EPA Hearings.” The story, aggregated from the Washington Times, relates to a Denver visit by former Vice President Al Gore‘s “Climate Reality Project” for EPA hearings on power plant emissions. The group showed up to hand out ice cream even though it was 58 degrees. Weir retweeted the link, with his own comment:...

Sure, buildings, roads, and monuments have always been named after presidents - but, President Obama's name has been adopted by more than just schools and bridges. Keep reading! Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday that she knows how difficult it is "to be the leader of a relatively small country." Come again? I know I’m relatively young, but I think I would have remembered President or Prime Minister or Queen Hillary.
