Did you hear the one about a Republican Jon Stewart gunning for The Daily Show? Those waiting for the punchline will have to wait till fall, when The Flipside, a conservative take on political satire, hits the airwaves. Host Michael Loftus is a relative unknown, but as he’s planning to come after “insane liberals,” it’s time for an introduction. A fan of Ronald Reagan and John Adams, Loftus hopes to get Americans to toss political correctness aside for a free exchange of ideas. And if you say the American dream is dead, he gets really cross. He’s breaking into the...

t is the softly spoken radio show that provides good-natured help and advice to thousands of gardeners every week. So regular listeners to Gardeners’ Question Time may be horrified to discover it has been accused of peddling racial stereotypes. According to an academic, the sedate Radio 4 panel show is riddled with "racial meanings" disguised as horticultural advice. One current presenter, Bob Flowerdew, rubbished the idea, calling it “ridiculous”, and asked whether experts on the show “should stop using Latin names to avoid offending the Romans”. But Dr Ben Pitcher, a senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Westminster,...

Rick Perry has taken another step to being a national player and perhaps inching his way into a national presidential campaign. One of the ways is to make friends. On July 31, he filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to create a political committee called RickPAC. He intends to use the committee to donate contributions to like-minded Republicans. “It was set up to help fund candidates who agree with the governor’s priorities,” said spokesman Mark Miner.

Many of you probably heard about the “Halbig” decision, in which a federal court struck a blow against Obamacare by ruling that the IRS was wrong to arbitrarily grant subsidies for health insurance policies purchased through a federal exchange. And why did the judges rule against the IRS? Well, for the simple reason that the Obamacare legislation specifically says that subsidies are only available for policies purchased through exchanges set up by state governments. My Cato colleague Michael Cannon explains: The PPACA authorizes the IRS to issue health-insurance tax credits only to taxpayers who purchase coverage “through an Exchange established...

I was born in Tennessee. And even though I’ve lived in New York City for the past decade, I still take my tea sweet, my chicken fried and my biscuits buttered. I’m proud to call myself a gun-toting, Bible-clinging Tennessee Volunteer. So you can imagine my befuddlement when I learned the Oak Ridge National Laboratory wanted to crack down on workers who have Southern accents by holding a “Southern Accent Reduction” course. In other words, them government folks want to learn us rednecks how to talk right. Bless their hearts.Read More…

It’s safe to say CNN anchor Bill Weir is not a fan of climate change deniers. On Thursday, the Twitter account for Fox Nation, a blog run by Fox News, tweeted a link to a post headlined, “Climate Doesn’t Cooperate With Al Gore’s Group’s Visit to Denver EPA Hearings.” The story, aggregated from the Washington Times, relates to a Denver visit by former Vice President Al Gore‘s “Climate Reality Project” for EPA hearings on power plant emissions. The group showed up to hand out ice cream even though it was 58 degrees. Weir retweeted the link, with his own comment:...

Sure, buildings, roads, and monuments have always been named after presidents - but, President Obama's name has been adopted by more than just schools and bridges. Keep reading! This top five list of things named after Barack Obama is sure to surprise you. 1) An extinct lizard: Obamadon Gracilis ("Obama the Slender") was a small, extinct lizard named after the president "in reference to the tall, straight teeth, and the manner in which Mr. Obama has acted as a role model of good oral hygiene for the world." 2) A Fungus: Caloplaca Obamae was named by the scientist who discovered...

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday that she knows how difficult it is "to be the leader of a relatively small country." Come again? I know I’m relatively young, but I think I would have remembered President or Prime Minister or Queen Hillary.

Dear Members of the Mainstream Media, You’ve been awesome! Everyone knows that we start unwinnable wars with Israel because the real victory happens when you predictably side with us each time. And you’ve been so supportive of our strategy that we really want to acknowledge your helpfulness. In particular, we thank you for: - Focusing so much more on our suffering than anyone else’s. Nigerians must die in far greater numbers before you take notice, so we’re glad that you value our lives so much more. - Minimizing your coverage, if any, of our attacks that led up to Israel’s...

What works in a Modern Language Association panel for English professors probably won’t succeed in the free market. In the final coup for the progressive-leaning Archie Comics crew, Archie himself—America’s hero—was shot to death while taking a bullet for his gay friend in the July 2014 issue. archie comics When asked what a ten year old will read for fun, chances are it’s a comic book. Let’s face it: From a kid’s standpoint comic books are entertaining and a good way to spend free time. What could be better than spending free time reading an Archie comic? Archie comics provide...

On Thursday, with PJ Media's J. Christian Adams as her guest, Fox News's Megyn Kelly recited a list of assertions (under oath, she reminded us) made by Internal Revenue Service officials which have later been shown to be lies or cause for agency flip-flops after "new" facts have been revealed. It's a significant list. By implication, it's an indictment of the vast majority of the establishment press, which has refused to give the IRS scandal the attention it deserves. Video and a transcript follow the jump. ... The establishment press has been almost completely uninterested in telling their readers, listeners,...

The documentary was filmed in the three weeks during the June operation, which seized several major cities along the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

As a Member of Congress from a state on our southern border, I see firsthand the realities of illegal immigration. In fact, much of the recent public outcry originated from busloads of illegal immigrants dumped in Arizona a few short months ago. The strain placed on state and local governments overwhelms security, education, and medical services, making them harder to come by for citizens and immigrants alike. We’ve all read the stories of blown budgets and rising crime, but Members of Congress who come from border states don’t need to read those stories. (SNIP) Doing nothing is not an option....

“Never give up, never surrender!” That’s the hokey battle cry spoken by fictional Commander Peter Taggart, but it also easily applies to the long journey to get the beloved cult film “Galaxy Quest” to the screen. In 1999 Mark Johnson, already an Oscar winner for “Rain Man,” was an independent producer with a deal at DreamWorks Studios. Johnson’s scouts had come across a screenplay called “Captain Starshine” that, by all accounts, wasn’t particularly good, but which had that killer “what if” hook. Basically: what if the Thermians – a group of goofy space aliens – misconstrued old episodes of a...
