Bob Suter, a member of the 1980 U.S. "Miracle on Ice" team and father of Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, died Tuesday. He was 57. "We are very saddened by today's news that Minnesota Wild scout Bob Suter suddenly passed away," the Wild said in a statement. "The Wild organization sends its condolences to the entire Suter family during this difficult time. Not only was Bob a great hockey ambassador, he was a terrific person off the ice who will be greatly missed by all of us." The cause of death was not given.

Two weeks before he died of an overdose in 2011, the New York Rangers player Derek Boogaard was excused from his substance-abuse rehabilitation in California and returned to New York. He drove to Long Island, as he had done many times in the months before, and paid a man for illegally obtained prescription painkillers. This time, rather than cash, Boogaard paid with a personal check.

The old "Spamboni" ice resurfacer has sold for the $2,000 asking price -- and it's going to a family with deep Minnesota hockey roots. Dave Langevin, whose dad grew up in St. Paul and won four Stanley Cups as a defenseman with the New York Islanders in the early 1980s, is now the owner of the Hormel-sponsored Zamboni that once wheeled around the St. Paul Civic Center while promoting the Austin, Minn.-based company's canned meat. The 1972 HDB Zamboni (Serial No. 1566) was the Civic Center's original machine.

The Chicago Blackhawks will no longer play "The Stripper" during their Shoot the Puck contest after hearing from fans who found the song demeaning to women, a team spokesperson said Wednesday. Blackhawks fans recently have been voicing their opinions about the song and a few other Blackhawks practices they deem sexist. The push for change picked up after Marissa Miller, 31, of Chicago, started gathering online signatures Aug. 6 for a petition for the Blackhawks to treat their female fans the same as their male ones.

SAN JOSE -- The Sharks are not backing down from their plan to recruit "ice girls" to help clean the playing surface during each game despite a backlash from a segment of their fan base. "Fans take pride in the Sharks not objectifying women. Please keep the Tank a family environment," SharksFanTX wrote on Twitter. Another ended her Twitter complaint with an "#icegirlsareadealbreaker" hashtag, vowing to cancel season tickets if the team sticks with its plan. A Jewish player that may go in the first round of the NHL draft this month is Josh Ho-Sang. His father is a black Jamaican who got his name from a Chinese grandfather, his mother is a Spanish-speaking Chilean of Russian and Swedish parents. They live in Toronto. She is Jewish and brought up Josh as such. He played for the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario junior league and scored 32 goals. He is an absolute wizard with the puck but there are three knocks against him.

Multiple videos have been posted online showing what uploaders described as hockey fans destroying a Los Angeles Police Department drone outside the Staples Center Friday night after the LA Kings won the NHL's Stanley Cup. Riot police were called in to break up what the LA Times described as a "melee" outside the arena following the King's victory over the New York Rangers. The clock is ticking for Minnesota's indoor ice rinks. He’s too young to play the lottery, but one South Bay teen has just beat 1 in 1.56 million odds: Cale McLellan sank back-to-back holes-in-one over the weekend. McLellan, the son of San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan, was playing in a junior golf club tournament on the short course at Santa Teresa Golf Club in San Jose. The 14-year-old aced the 84-yard eighth hole and then scored another hole-in-one on the 116-yard ninth. McLellan finished third overall in the tournament.
