PHILADELPHIA -- Union College won its first NCAA hockey title Saturday night at the Frozen Four, scoring three times in a 1:54 span in the first period in a 7-4 victory over Minnesota on Saturday night.

I don't think anyone will call us Cinderella anymore, said Shayne Gostisbehere, who had a goal and two assists. These guys, my brothers, they do everything. I don't care about anything else, we're national champions.
Max Novak, Kevin Sullivan and Mat Bodie also scored and Colin Stevens made 36 saves for Union (32-6-4), the 2,200-student liberal arts college in Schenectady, N.Y., that competes in Division III in all other sports.
Justin Kloos, Sam Warning, Taylor Cammarata and Hudson Fasching scored for Minnesota (28-7-6). Adam Wilcox stopped 41 shots for the five-time champion Gophers.

Congrats on their 1st NCAA championship.
A riot in Dinkytown ?
51,000 student university with 18 hockey players on scholarship loses to a 2,100 student college with 0 scholarships. Damn you Gophers...
I was recruited by Union out of high school. At the time though they were not the D1 powerhouse they are today. But had a solid rep as a D3 hockey program. Who would’ve thunk it?
Shayne Gostisbehere had truly one of the best individual performances at any championship game I have seen. A good Florida boy, too.
Tough break for the rodents. They must have left it all on the ice in the game against the team who must not be named.
Aren’t they mostly Canucks now?
Yes. Even D3 is all filled w Canadiens. All have junior experience too. So they are 21 yo freshman. I played D3 but today would not have made a roster, right out of high school as an 18 yo at least. The Canadian parents got smart. Instead of chasing a dream in slapshot leagues the kids are now getting an education. And then chasing dream.
So do it.
Turns out it was boys vs men.
Union has no one under 20 and six were 23 and six were 24.
It’s becoming South American baseball!
