He drove to Long Island, as he had done many times in the months before, and paid a man for illegally obtained prescription painkillers. This time, rather than cash, Boogaard paid with a personal check.

Prescription pill abuse is far bigger a problem than most care to admit.
\I won’t give the Slimes a hit so I won’t read the whole story.
But had Derek had made out the check to CASH the dealer may have gotten away with the deal.
And Derek should have known better.
But then obviously he was not that smart.
A lot of kidneys have been destroyed by the over the counter pain meds, I hate to see what the hard stuff can do
I’ve never had chronic, contuious pain that never ends. There by the grace of God go I.
I have a bad toothache and I have gone to the extreme and got Excedrin
I had gum tissue graft surgery. It hurt, but I never took the prescription pain meds. They make me wackier than I already am.
I have a really bad toothache... and you had to talk about gum surgery... ouch...
