A few days after Microsoft released Windows 10 to the public last year, Teri Goldstein's computer started trying to download and install the new operating system. The update, which she says she didn't authorize, failed. Instead, the computer she uses to run her Sausalito, California, travel-agency business slowed to a crawl. It would crash, she says, and be unusable for days at a time. "I had never heard of Windows 10," Goldstein said. "Nobody ever asked me if I wanted to update." When outreach to Microsoft's customer support didn't fix the issue, Goldstein took the software giant to court, seeking...

If you're in the market for a Surface 3, now is the time to buy one. Microsoft says that production of the Surface 3 will come to an end in December this year, and warns that stocks are already starting to run low. It's not yet clear whether the end of production for the cheapest Surface device signals the end of Microsoft's Atom-based devices. But it certainly seems as though the company is keen to focus its attention on the Pro range as well as the Surface Book. Microsoft confirmed the end of Surface 3 production to ZDNet. Mary Jo...

NASCAR Drivers are making right hand turns this weekend for the first time this season. Should NASCAR add more "road courses" to their schedule? Who's going to win this race?

I was wondering what is the quickest Olympic event that from the start of the timing or judging to the finish that you can actually win a metal for. I was thinking long jump. You are judged from the time you hit the plank to hitting the sand. 0.2 seconds? Or maybe highjump, where you are judged only for the time you are over the bar. 0.1 seconds?

So I don't know how to hyperlink, but this happened today. SkyNews brought me in to discuss gun control. The host immediately started with false propaganda. I corrected him. Hilarity ensues. Hope you enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD_-JKvSJrc

One of my favorite television chefs is Nick Stellino. He has a wonderful, warm presence and engaging presentation - the sort of person who, when you watch him on television, makes you feel as if you've known him forever; and he manages to pack a LOT of information into a very short video without becoming boring or didactic. This recipe is from what I believe was his first book 'Cucina Amore', in which each recipe is accompanied by family memories of his youth in Sicily. I wanted to try the recipe this week and didn't have time; but I will...

The campaign against Rule 41 – which will give cops and Feds in America the power to hack people's computers around the world – has kicked up a gear. Leaders of the US House of Representatives and Senate got a letter today urging them to block the rule change before it becomes permanent in December. The proposed legislative tweak, quietly passed by an obscure committee and approved by the Supreme Court in April, would allow a US magistrate judge to grant law enforcement access to any stored data on a computer, phone, or any storage device around the world that...

This summer, one year after the initial launch of Windows 10, Microsoft will release its first major update: the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. It will be delivered in the usual way -- via Windows Update -- and will install automatically on its own. However, if you're curious (or apprehensive) about the upcoming update, you don't have to wait until the final release date to check it out. Microsoft has been releasing public preview builds, each one a little bit closer to the final version. Anyone can get and install those builds by first becoming part of Microsoft's Windows Insider Program,...

None of these measures would have affected the Orlando Massacre. Not a single one. And the Orlando shooter was taken off of the list, even after traveling to Saudi Arabia twice and going to the same mosque as a suicide bomber! One party seeks to take away our ability to defend ourselves from Jihadis. There is a special place in hell for these people.

Hi, all, very excited I joined NRA with their EasyPayLife plan on Friday. Now I'm want to move forward. As I select a handgun, I do plan to try different models at gun ranges and talk with close friends who shoot. I know in time I will find something that I really connect with. And before I purchase, I will have lots of solid training and hopefully some sort of certification(s) under my belt (suggest a few if you think of them). Meanwhile, I would appreciate suggestions. I want a model that is classic, easy to care for, good power,...

Hi FRiends. I started Geocaching this week; downloaded the app and bought a 3 month membership. Looked for 6 hides in the last few days and DNF any but I'm rather hooked! LOL. Anybody else got the bug? I thought this might be fun to do with grandbabies but ohmylanta! are the ones around here tricky! In Roanoke VA for another few weeks visiting, then back up to Yankee country. So looking forward to finding something and hoping I don't screw up the hide! :) I'd really like to hear any other experiences anyone has had. I don't know anyone...

The next emoji update will be two characters short of what was originally planned — the result of a "late stage" change, according to the organization overseeing the symbols. Now, a new report suggests the change may have come from an unlikely source: Apple. According to BuzzFeed, the rifle emoji had a chance of making it on the list of new emoji that Unicode, the organization in charge of them, was creating for 2016. However, that was not to be, and Apple was one of the larger voices rallying against its inclusion. Though a rifle was scheduled to be coded...

As state after state has legalized marijuana in one way or another, big names in corporate America have stayed away entirely. Marijuana, after all, is still illegal, according to the federal government. But Microsoft is breaking the corporate taboo on pot this week by announcing a partnership to begin offering software that tracks marijuana plants from “seed to sale,” as the pot industry puts it. The software — a new product in Microsoft’s cloud computing business — is meant to help states that have legalized the medical or recreational use of marijuana keep tabs on sales and commerce, ensuring that...

Why do I Enjoy Firearms? The South Carolina Chapter held a raffle. I never win raffles, however, I still contributed to the cause. I won a Rem 700 n .270. Yeah, no kidding. Upon returning home, I completed a transfer request per IL law. A week later I was at a range all by myself with a cardboard box. I asked for help and instruction and spent the rest of the day shooting. Over the next few months I spent every Sat AM out there. I took additional classes from a great family team consisting of an ex Chicago cop...

Some members of Free Republic know, and some newer members may not know, that one of our own (a man I greatly admire but have never met) is the author of an important book called ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC. It is superbly written. It is part of a quite addictive trilogy. It is ALL ABOUT what is happening in America right now. Once you're a few paragraphs into the Prologue you'll "get it." Am I right, FRiends? Would love to hear your EFAD thoughts!

So,what rust bucket car should I buy? It's gotta be cheap,it's gotta be running.I need a truck, love El Caminos, then again I could buy a cheap truck that runs and get a 68 Camaro, then I watched the original "Gone In 60 Seconds" from 1974 and I like the fake Mach 1.It has to be a manual not automatic.

Many of us often wind up with bits and pieces or 'ends' of leftover cheeses in the refrigerator. But there's an app for that! and I first learned this from one of Jacques Pepin's television cooking shows: 'Fromage Fort', or 'Strong Cheese', is a recipe that makes a spread out of the various bits of cheese you may have languishing in the fridge. There are lots of recipes for it, but here is a basic one; I usually have Cheddar, Swiss, Blue, and Jack hanging around; and I haven't found a combination that turns out badly, though you may want...
