According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Eagles coach Chip Kelly has just turned his own personal don’t-give-a-damn meter to 11, bringing quarterback Tim Tebow in for a workout. He’s just messing with us at this point. The idea of Tebow and Mark Sanchez together again is almost too perfect to put into words. Kelly carries himself with a smartest-guy-in-the-room vibe anyway, but bringing in a guy the rest of the NFL had given up on speaks to a bit of hubris. Could Tebow run the Eagles’ system, considering his roots running a spread offense at Florida? Sure. Maybe. Who knows?

The Heisman Trophy might just be the most prestigious individual award in all of sports. It’s a symbol of everything that stands for college football, with one player each year joining an exclusive fraternity for his on-field success. And, over the years, we have seen some great players go on to win the award and make a name for themselves in the NFL. Unfortunately, having the stiff-armed statue doesn’t always lead to that kind of pro career, and these 20 of the players who found that out, as they’re the worst Heisman Trophy winners to ever play in the NFL.

Marcus Mariota, widely considered the favorite over co-finalists Melvin Gordon and Amari Cooper, won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York. College football's top honor punctuates the Oregon junior quarterback's list of 2014 accolades, which include the Walter Camp, Davey O'Brien, Maxwell and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm awards. Mariota's banner season included 3,783 passing yards and 38 touchdown passes against two interceptions. The dual-threat quarterback also racked up 669 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

September 20, 2014Cork Gaines Jameis Winston, who has been suspended for Florida State's game against Clemson, showed up before the game in full pads and started to warm up with his teammates before being sent back to the locker room by head coach Jimbo Fisher. Winston was originally suspended from just the first half of the game for yelling a profanity-laced statement in front of fellow students on campus. That suspension was later increased to the full game when the school reportedly learned that Winston lied about the full nature of what had happened. Despite the suspension, Winston appeared to...

A pair of high-profile NFL rookies crossed paths Saturday night -- a meeting highlighted by Michael Sam mimicking Johnny Manziel. Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, mocked Manziel's "money sign" after sacking the Heisman Trophy winner in the fourth quarter of the St. Louis Rams' preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns.

And the Winner Is…In a somewhat startling announcement, the Downtown Athletic Club awarded the prestigious Heisman Memorial Trophy to President Barack Obama. Usually the Heisman is given to college football’s best player and Obama is the first non-athlete to ever win the award. At a ceremony this morning Club president Reginald Smithton said President Obama received this award for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen and support college football” and specifically cited Obama’s suggestion that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hold a college football “playoff” to determine a national champion for its top teams, commonly referred to as Division 1-A.

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before. FOOTBALL FACTS Thanks for joining us once again as we look at some football facts. This time we’ll look at "From a regional to a National sport. From 1930-1958" In the early 1930s, the college game continued to grow, particularly in the south, bolstered by fierce rivalries such as the "Third Saturday in October"—a rivalry between Alabama and Tennessee. While prior to the mid-1920s most national powers came from...

The old football coach had a cold, and as it worsened that September, his wife summoned a doctor to the couple’s Midtown Manhattan apartment. A week earlier, the coach had played 18 holes of golf and worked out at his local gym. But now he had pneumonia, and his condition was deteriorating by the day. Then, on Oct. 3, 1936, a crisp Saturday and a good day for a college football game, the man with what would become the sport’s most famous name died at home. Seventy years ago, the passing of John William Heisman a few days before his...

After 20 bids, another Heisman Trophy was sold. It is believed to be the fifth one to go on the auction block. The price it was sold for? Nearly $400,000. It was sold online by Lelands, a New York-based sports auction service. The 1941 Heisman Trophy was the only Heisman given to a University of Minnesota football player – Bruce Smith. The standout running back and team captain moved to Alexandria in the 1960s and was a beverage wholesale dealer. He died of cancer in 1967. His widow, Gloria Smith, still lives in Alexandria. Despite numerous attempts, the Echo Press...
