UPDATE: Three of the four worshippers killed in a Jerusalem synagogue attack are Americans, according to multiple media reports. Earlier: Two Palestinians stormed a Jerusalem synagogue on Tuesday, attacking worshippers praying inside with knives, axes and guns, and killing four people before they were killed in a shootout with police, officials said. The attack, the deadliest in Jerusalem in years, is bound to ratchet up fears of sustained violence in the city, already on edge amid soaring tensions over a contested holy site.

Palestinian Arabs in Gaza and elsewhere openly celebrated the massacre of Jewish worshippers at a synagogue in Jerusalem Tuesday morning. Hamas hailed the attack as “revenge” for the death of an Arab bus driver in Jerusalem a day earlier, a death that was ultimately determined to be a suicide. An Arab driving a van killed one person and wounded some 14 others, several critically, when he slammed into pedestrians and vehicles at two points along the capital’s light rail line midday Wednesday, according to Army radio.
