  • US Elections: Trump Leads Clinton Nationwide, According to Poll That Called 2012

While most national polls project Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton winning the presidential election in a landslide victory, one prominent survey shows Republican rival Donald Trump narrowly ahead. In light of multiple sexual assault allegations being leveled against the billionaire, Trump has suffered in national polling. The national average shows Clinton leading by seven points, and Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight puts her odds of winning at a staggering 87.6 percent. But the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times "Daybreak" poll paints a different outcome. Tracking the opinions of roughly 3,000 eligible voters, the results are updated each day. As of Tuesday, the poll gives Trump...

*Most election polls are loss leaders, designed for marketing. *Brand recognition is often the main goal, not accuracy. *The real money is giving advice to campaigns. Every day in this election cycle it seems like there are new polls about the presidential race, and it seems like somebody must be making a lot of money from all that data collection. But here's the thing: Most of these polls were never meant to make money. They are just marketing and brand placement to help sell something else. Even the biggest firms, like Gallup, give away political polls to promote the commercial...

As we rush towards the finish line in the 2016 presidential horse race, there’s little doubt the polls have been unkind to Donald Trump of late. As of Sunday the Real Clear Politics average showed Hillary Clinton with a five and half point lead. Despite the size and permanence of Clinton’s surpluses across the various polls, one survey has consistently bucked the trend throughout the entire race. The LA Times/USC poll currently puts Trump ahead by one point Trump Wikileaks coveragebut has stubbornly maintained that the Republican nominee was leading by bigger margins over the course of months. For the past few months, Hillary Clinton's decision to exclusively use a private email server while at the State Department has receded as a campaign issue as Donald Trump's comments about women have come to dominate the daily chatter about the 2016 race. On Monday, however, the various issues associated with Clinton's email setup came roaring back. According to emails released by the FBI, Undersecretary of State Patrick Kennedy asked the FBI to ease up on classification decisions in exchange for allowing more FBI agents in countries where they were not permitted to go. The words "quid pro quo" were...

You Americans should learn the lesson of the Brexit shocker, and the stunning success of right-wing populists in Austria and France. LONDON—Don’t underestimate the power of nativist populism. That’s the harsh lesson we in Britain learned less than four months ago, when Brexit blew up in our faces and confounded nearly every prediction. It’s one the Austrians and French are learning even now, as they keep counting out (then are forced to count back in) right-wing populist backlashes to the establishment. And it’s the lesson that American pundits who are already predicting a comfortable victory for Hillary Clinton over the...

If average voters turned on the TV for five minutes this week, chances are they know that Donald Trump made lewd remarks a decade ago and now stands accused of groping women. But even if average voters had the TV on 24/7, they still probably haven’t heard the news about Hillary Clinton: That the nation now has proof of pretty much everything she has been accused of. It comes from hacked emails dumped by WikiLeaks, documents released under the Freedom of Information Act, and accounts from FBI insiders. The media has almost uniformly ignored the flurry of bombshells, preferring to...

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Donald Trump is making a campaign stop in Grand Junction on Tuesday and that means all hands on deck. Law enforcement is preparing and the secret service is in town as Trump will land at the Grand Junction Regional Airport to speak to the Western Slope community ahead of Wednesday's debate in Las Vegas. "We really hope the entire community shares out excitement and our passion,” said Kraig Andrews Chairman of the Republican Party. More than 7,000 people are already registered to attend the rally. "When you show up tomorrow there will be people telling...

Democratic strategist James Carville on Monday declared GOP presidential nominee’s Donald Trump’s campaign “dead” as he urged voters to give money to support Democratic House candidates. In a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) fundraising email, Carville summed up Trump’s campaign in a seven-word “eulogy:” “It launched. It failed miserably. It died.” But he argued that Democrats’ job is far from done, encouraging supporters to open up their wallets and contribute to House candidates and match the funding from Republican donors. “Here’s the deal: Just because Trump’s dunzo doesn’t mean your job is over!” Carville wrote. “Oh heck no -- Democrats...

(AUDIO-AT-LINK)Indiana Governor Mike Pence brings the campaign spotlight to Macomb County tonight. He'll be speaking at the Lincoln Day dinner in Shelby Township. Organizers say it’s the largest crowd in recent memory for the Lincoln Day dinner, and it’s proof that Macomb County is still fertile ground for the GOP message. Today, Chad Selweski joined us to discuss the political history of Macomb County. He's a former longtime political reporter for the Macomb Daily, now a freelance writer and publisher of the blog Politically Speaking. Macomb County has a long history of conservatism, according to Selweski. In the 1980s, the...

U.S. Google Trends for "How to vote for Trump," "How to vote for Hillary" and "How to vote for Clinton" over the last 30 days show a spike in searches following the first and second presidential debates. Not surprising: People are fired up and want to know how to cast a vote! But the data show one disparity worth noting: "How to vote for Trump" usually ranks higher than "How to vote for Clinton" and "How to vote for Hillary." There could be a number of reasons why, but the trend brings up one important point: Trump doesn't have as...

Democrat Hillary Clinton moved into the lead in three key swing states and is now tied 45-45 with Republican Donald Trump in Ohio, according to a new independent poll of likely voters from Quinnipiac University. A separate poll of likely voters released Monday by CNN shows Trump holding a 4-point lead over Clinton in Ohio, 48-44, which is just outside the margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. The CNN poll of likely voters shows 4 percent backing Libertarian Gary Johnson and 2 percent voting for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. The CNN poll shows voters see...

Donald Trump’s allies tried their best Sunday to tamp down an eruption of stories accusing the Republican presidential nominee of untoward sexual advances against women, as national polls showed the billionaire businessman still within striking distance of Hillary Clinton after a horrendous week. His running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, said he “couldn’t be more proud” to stand shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Trump, despite the rising tally of women who have accused the presidential candidate of groping and other unwanted advances over the past few decades. “Donald Trump has made it clear that he categorically denies the allegations that...

The key to predicting who is going to win an election is understanding who will vote – and that spells trouble for pollsters. The best predictor of voting intention is to ask the respondents if they intend to vote. The problem, however, is that real turnout has been around 55 percent for the last 55 years, while, historically, over 70 percent of survey respondents routinely say they intended to vote. Yikes! So are 20 percent of respondents selected in random probability samples lying? Yes....

A member of the Hillary Clinton campaign praised former President George W. Bush on immigration, according to leaked emails from campaign chairman John Podesta’s account. As the campaign tried to figure out whether to let former President Bill Clinton speak on immigration, his chief of staff Tina Flournoy took a minute to praise Bush. “43 is soooooo good on it,” Flournoy wrote in a March 2015, email. “Really good. At least he has been when I’ve seen him talk about it with 42.” The rest of the email chain is devoted to whether to risk Clinton talking about immigration and...

The polls point to the promised land. But she'll have to get past Trump and WikiLeaks first. The final three weeks should have been an anxious but happy time for a Hillary Clinton team on the cusp of making history. Her odds of victory, according to most prediction experts, sit north of 80 percent, and she has solidified modest but durable leads over Donald Trump in most battleground states. But Clinton's final sprint has become a joyless, nail-gnawing slog through Trump Tower’s moat of mudslinging — and the day-to-day worries of WikiLeaks’ dump of internal emails from campaign chairman John...

Most Democrats are happy that Donald Trump’s campaign is stumbling. But some, looking at the long term, might think that a Trump win next month would be a good thing. Not for the country, they would explain, but for the future of the Democratic Party. Just like Barack Obama’s win in 2008 hurt Democrats in elections later on, Trump’s victory would be terrible for the Republicans in future elections. Obama’s victory seemed to be the prelude to a long period of Democratic dominance and control of the House and Senate. But it did not last long because Obama’s victory provoked...

SALT LAKE CITY — Independent presidential candidate and Utah native Evan McMullin sent out a fundraising email Monday to a list of supporters purchased from the GOP's 2012 nominee, Mitt Romney. The email from McMullin does not mention Romney or a possible endorsement, although "Romney for President Inc." and a Massachusetts address appears in small print at the bottom. "We're just very thankful for his assistance in this way, and we'll let other folks discuss what that may mean and certainly never speak for the governor," said Joel Searby, McMullin's chief strategist. In response to questions about the list, Romney...

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence on Sunday expressed renewed confidence in Donald Trump and their White House bid, amid a stream of allegations about Trump’s behavior toward women and a new poll that shows the race against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton is still very close. “This is a highly-contested election; all the way to the finish,” Pence told “Fox News Sunday.” “I couldn’t be more proud to stand with Donald Trump.” Pence spoke hours after the release of a Washington Post-ABC News poll that showed Clinton leading by 4 percentage points, 47-to-43 percent, with Election Day now just 23...
