Shumaila Shah knows how to cook her husband's favorite dish the way one might say the Pledge of Allegiance. "Cook onions, tomatoes, garlic and ginger crushed together," she said, articulating something so familiar it didn't need words, English or Punjabi. "Salt, pepper, garam masala. Put meat in and add water to make a gravy. Cook until the meat is soft, not tough." How long? She thinks for a moment. "A half-hour; it depends on the meat," she said. "Then add the potatoes, because they take a shorter time to cook. We eat it with naan." The recipe for her aloo...

Augustus Invictus, a former Libertarian Party candidate for U.S. Senate from Orlando most famous for saying he sacrificed a goat and drank its blood, had an important role in the white nationalist “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville on Saturday. Invictus, 34, was listed as a featured marcher for the Saturday event, which was roundly condemned after marchers carried Nazi flags, performed Hitler salutes and chanted white supremacist and anti-Semitic sayings while carrying torches. He could not be reached for comment Monday. Invictus lost the 2016 Libertarian primary for U.S. Senate in Florida to Paul Stanton, but not before state...

Meet Polly, an adorable rescue goat who is blind and suffers from severe anxiety. Her owner Leanne Lauricella rescued the baby goat and says Polly suffers from neurological problems. Leanne said the baby goat would often run around and cry if she couldn't find her. Her owner purchased the costume from a store for Halloween, not expecting it to have such a profound effect on her. The duck costume helped Polly the goat go from anxious and stressed to all zen and chill. There’s something about that duck costume that calms her. As soon as I put it on her,...
  • Odd coincidence? Creator of Cubs 'curse' died on Oct. 22, Cubs win pennant Oct. 22

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs have won the pennant for the first time since 1945, and now they'll endeavor to win the World Series for the first time since way, way back yonder in 1908. What's behind that? Cruel randomness, serialized misfortune, and occasional lousiness. Mythos, though, would have it that something darker has prevented the Cubs from reaching the pinnacle of the sport for lo these many years.

A mountain goat that entered Resurrection Bay in Seward and drowned Saturday was crowded into the water by people following it through the downtown area, troopers said... "It is imperative that wildlife is given adequate space to be able to leave a congested area like downtown Seward," troopers wrote. "(P)eople not giving the animal space and getting close to take photos resulted in a wild animal dying for no cause."
  • Johor to Test if Human-Looking Goat Is Offspring of Human and Animal

It will take around two weeks to a month to finalise the investigations on the carcass of a kid in Kota Tinggi that was said to resemble a human infant (pic). Johor state Agriculture and Agro-based Industry committee chairman Ismail Mohamed said then they would be able to find out the possibility of an offspring produced by a human and an animal. "For now we cannot confirm or deny anything as we have never received such a case before. "We will have to wait for the results and findings to be finalised and that takes somewhere between two weeks and...

This goat got into trouble after kidding around on some power lines. The animal somehow managed to trap itself by its horns on overhead cables, leaving it dangling from a hillside above a 20-ft drop to a road. As this amazing footage shows, the goat was caught in the lines and couldn’t get down. It had to be removed by a team of men, who used a ladder to tie a rope around the animal’s leg, before one of them pulled the goat back to the hill and set it free.

Thomas Thwaites is currently investigating what it might be like to live as a goat. He commissioned prosthetics for his arms and legs so that he could walk, as comfortably as possible, on all fours. He considered constructing an artificial rumen that would digest grass for him to consume, using actual gut bacteria found in goats. He consulted with a behavioural expert on goats, and even watched as a goat was dissected, to learn more about the animal he wanted to be. But the best part is that Thwaites also arranged to live as a goat for a few days...

Navy Capt. John Banigan is no longer aboard the San Diego-based guided missile cruiser Lake Erie. Neither is a goat named Master Chief Charlie. Banigan was ousted from command last week after the brass lost confidence in his ability to lead, the standard explanation when a commanding officer is removed. Banigan has been reassigned to a desk job. Master Chief Charlie is also ashore, though it remains unclear whether he is on Navy property or civilian property. He is, however, in excellent health, the Navy said. The fate of the captain and the goat became mixed when the Navy began...

When Amazon launched its Amazon Home Services this week, the stars of the new initiative were …Goats.Seattle goats, specifically, ready to trim back your pesky shrubbery. “We bring the goats and unload him,” said Tammy Dunakin, head goat wrangler and owner of Rent-A-Ruminant LLC. “The second they hit the ground, they’re eating. It’s incredible to watch. It’s kind of like watching marbles scatter when you drop them on the pavement. And the goats start eating everything in sight."And it sounds like ... Hours before he died, "Ötzi" the Iceman gorged on the fatty meat of a wild goat, according to a new analysis of the famous mummy's stomach contents. The frozen body of the Copper Age hunter was discovered in 1991 in the Alps of northern Italy, where he died some 5,000 years ago. The circumstances surrounding Ötzi's death are not fully known, but the most popular theory—based in part on the discovery of an arrowhead in his back—is that he was murdered by other hunters while fleeing through the mountains. Scientists previously analyzed the contents of Ötzi's lower intestine and determined...

In a presentation at the Seventh World Congress on Mummy Studies, researchers from the Institute for Mummies and the Iceman revealed that they had finally located the iceman known as Otzi’s stomach and determined his last meal. They were also able to successfully sequence his entire genome. Researchers from the Institute for Mummies and the Iceman in Italy divided the presentation into three different topics. The first part of the presentation was given by microbiologist Frank Maixner. He had recently examined old tomography scans taken of Otzi back in 2005 and was able to finally locate the stomach which was...

Less than 2 hours before he hiked his last steps in the Tyrolean Alps 5000 years ago, Ötzi the Iceman fueled up on a last meal of ibex meat. That was the conclusion of a talk here last week at the 7th World Congress on Mummy Studies, during which researchers—armed with Ötzi's newly sequenced genome and a detailed dental analysis—also concluded that the Iceman had brown eyes and probably wasn't much of a tooth brusher. The Iceman, discovered in the Italian Alps in 1991 some 5200 years after his death, has been a gold mine of information about Neolithic life,...

From the analysis of the intestinal contents of the 5,200-year-old Iceman from the Eastern Alps, Professor James Dickson from the University of Glasgow in the UK and his team have shed some light on the mummy's lifestyle and some of the events leading up to his death. By identifying six different mosses in his alimentary tract, they suggest that the Iceman may have travelled, injured himself and dressed his wounds. The Iceman is the first glacier mummy to have fragments of mosses in his intestine. This is surprising as mosses are neither palatable nor nutritious and there are few reports...
