Been to a few forums and thought I would ask around here. I have a Stihl BR600 blower and a "Husky" saw. Been using the premeasured small bottles of Stihl Ultra Synthetic in both. Its not cheap but I am.6 Pack 18 bucks. Needed 2 stroke oil yesterday so I went to NAPA and picked up a bottle of Valvoline 2 stroke. Stopped in the Stihl shop and the mech said don't use it in the BR600 it requires 100% synthetic only use the Stihl Ultra. The Husky maybe but he wouldn't. I try to take care of my equip...

The crack appears like a miniature Grand Canyon up close. (Photo: Randy Becker/Facebook) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A dramatic crack has suddenly formed in the foothills of Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains that measures an impressive 750 yards long and 50 yards wide. It was discovered recently by surprised backcountry hunters who travel frequently to the area in search of game. First reported by SNS Outfitter & Guides, a hunting company, on their Facebook page, the mammoth chasm appeared over the course of just a couple of weeks. It's an impressive example of just how quickly very large geological events can occur under the right...
  • Researchers compare 'natural' mosquito repellents to DEET

Every summer while preparing for long weekends at our family cabin in the north woods of Minnesota, we'd face the same dilemmas. What food should we bring? Is SPF 50 sunscreen enough protection? And, most importantly, which mosquito repellent should we buy? If we picked the wrong kind, we'd be opening ourselves up to evenings of constant swatting by the campfire and nights of uncontrollable itching. Protection from the unofficial state bird, the mosquito, was not something to take lightly. However, while itchy limbs might be annoying, Minnesotans don't have much to worry about from mosquitoes, except for the occasional...

This article was originally posted by cnn.com: (CNN)–You can see Donald Trump’s face almost everywhere this campaign season. Here’s proof. Jeanette Paras painted a caricature of the GOP presidential candidate onto a larger-than-life pumpkin. The giant “Trumpkin,” as she calls him, weighs in at 374 pounds and took 10 hours to create.

PAY IT FORWARD: Paramedics with the Mehlville Fire Protection District were called to a South County home after a man fell from his roof and broke his leg while working to remove leaves. Paramedics returned to the home after transporting him to a nearby hospital and finished the project the man started - bagging up leaves in his yard. It gets better, an off-duty paramedic brought his personal trailer over to haul away the leaves for this family! What a great act of kindness we felt needed to be shared!

How crop artist Stan Herd made an acre-wide ode to "Olive Trees" If you're flying through Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport this fall, keep an eye out for Vincent van Gogh's "Olive Trees" from your airplane window. It won't be hard to miss — this aerial crop art covers more than an acre of land. The unique ode to van Gogh is the work of landscape artist Stan Herd, reports Mary Abbe for the Star Tribune. It was commissioned to honor two milestones: the Minneapolis Institute of Art's centennial and the 125th anniversary of van Gogh's death. "It's an iteration of...

Ketamine, a drug that is used as an anesthetic, may be a way to safely treat pain, PTSD, depression, and ringing ears (tinnitus), a new study suggests. Since the drug is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration, it could potentially be available sooner and cost less. “It’s a lot more economical to repurpose drugs than to take a new drug and make it from scratch,” says David E. Potter, professor and chair of pharmaceutical sciences at Texas A&M University’s Rangel College of Pharmacy. “Not only in terms of dollars, but also in terms of time.” And because a...

  • 7 Reasons to Start Homesteading Today

So, you say you’re still on the fence about homesteading? I get it. I really do. Attempting to make the switch from buying all your food at the grocery store without a second thought, to someone who suddenly has an insatiable desire to garden and milk goats is quite the transition, ya know? And then you have the whole “convincing the family/spouse” hurdle. Sometimes it’s easy to persuade them their future lies between rows of homegrown, GMO-free corn and beans, while in other cases, it can be a bit of a struggle to help them see the “vision”. It’s easy...

  • New diversity for lager beers

Unlike ales, lager beers differ little in flavor. But now, by creating new crosses among the relevant yeasts, Kevin Verstrepen, PhD, Stijn Mertens, and their collaborators have opened up new horizons of taste. The research is published in the September 25 Applied and Environmental Microbiology, a journal of the American Society for Microbiology. The relative uniformity of flavor among lagers turned out to result in significant part from a lack of genetic diversity among the yeasts. Genetic studies showed that lager yeasts had resulted from just two crosses between the parent yeasts, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and S. eubayanus. The problem was...
