An East Point homeowner said he was protecting his home and family when he shot and killed an intruder Tuesday morning, police said. About 9:30 a.m. the homeowner heard “a commotion, retrieved a firearm and went to investigate,” said Lt. Cliff Chandler, spokesman for East Point police. A former Jamaican police officer, who was in the United States illegally, managed to obtain citizenship and get a job in the College Park Police Department, federal authorities said. A Georgia police officer shot and killed a tiny Jack Russell Terrier that he claims threatened him during a routine probationary checkup on Monday. GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Police say a homeowner shot a man trying to break into his house in Norcross on Thursday. According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, the homeowner called 911 around 11 a.m. and said that two men were attempting to get inside his house on Greenway Road. The homeowner grabbed his handgun and fired after he said one of the men tried to force his way in through a window. Both suspects then fled the scene, according to police.

Police say that an Augusta teen who had been sought for questioning in a shooting Saturday acted in self-defense. After a “complete and thorough investigation,” Richmond County sheriff’s investigators determined that Anthony Hampton, 17, shot Willie Casey Jr., 47, who later died, Sgt. Shane McDaniel said. Hampton, who cooperated with investigators, was found to have acted in self-defense, and no criminal charges will be filed.

Helena Police Officer Robert Johnson says around 4pm Monday two men attempted to rob the Helena Package Store, and at least one of them was armed.
