Here's one highlight from the list: SMU likes to think of itself as the Duke of the Southwest. And it is, in that half the students are really good-looking people from the Northeast who didn’t get into Duke. But seriously, it’s an astonishingly good-looking student body, even if most of the dudes should be punched in the hair for Dave Matthews concert cuts they’ll be trimming the moment they waltz into their finance job.

DALLAS - A Texas high school football coach directed two players to strike a referee during a game because of missed calls that had hurt the team, the players claimed Friday during a national broadcast. During an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning, America,” Michael Moreno and Victor Rojas also repeated earlier claims that the ref had used racial slurs. Moreno said he regrets hitting Robert Watts and wants to apologize. Rojas said he was just doing what he was told. The two were suspended from the Jay High School football team in San Antonio in the aftermath of the game...

The two Texas high school football players, suspended for blindsiding an official during a Sept. 4 game, both say they were following a direct order from their assistant coach before delivering the infamous hits. John Jay high school senior Michael Moreno, 17, and his teammate Victor Rojas, a 15-year-old sophomore at John Jay, spoke publicly for the first time since the video of their blindside tackle of referee Robert Watts went viral. [Snip] Moreno told OTL he was standing on the sidelines next to teammate Trenton Hobdy, when his position coach, John Jay assistant Mack Breed, took the two players...

You would think that NFL stars would find it easy to get girlfriends, but Houston Texans player JJ Watt has said it's not that simple. The defensive player admits he finds it difficult to know if women like him for the person he is or his status and the wages that come with being the number one defensive player in the league. Watts also said that an intensive training schedule and traveling around the country for games makes it difficult to maintain a relationship.

New figures show that 87 of 91 deceased former NFL players have tested positive for CTE. Figures from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Boston University have identified the degenerative brain disease in 96% of NFL players and 79% of all football players they have examined. The brain bank is the nation's largest focused on the study of head injury and trauma, and shared its numbers with PBS's Frontline.

SNIP That was basically the attitude of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after the Giants cornerback learned the NFL had admitted it erred on two key calls in the season-opening 27-26 loss to the Cowboys — blown calls that certainly could have changed the outcome of the game. “That’s just one you have to live with,’’ Rodgers-Cromartie said. “That was a tough one.’’ A third-quarter pass-interference call on Rodgers-Cromartie, who was shadowing receiver Terrence Williams on a third-and-4 play, handed the Cowboys 16 gift yards and a first down. That directly led to a Dallas touchdown. It should not have been a penalty,...

A Vikings fan was attacked by a pack of 49ers fans outside Levi’s Stadium Monday night. Video posted on Facebook shows the attack after San Francisco’s 20-3 win over Minnesota. A man in an Adrian Peterson jersey is repeatedly kicked and punched in the face while trying to get up off the pavement while a handful of 49ers fans surround him. One event security staffer, in a yellow coat, runs in to break up the fight but some of the 49ers fans still get a few more shots in on the Vikings fan before more help arrives.

First impressions can be as deceiving in college football as it was with Josef Stalin. Both FDR and Truman were initially charmed by the Soviet dictator, only to be stabbed in the back by him later. Kinda like how AP voters must have felt right about now. A week ago, a record 10 SEC teams were ranked in the AP top 25, as the voters were smitten by the conference's 10-1 opening week record, including four victories over Power 5 opponents. SEC coaches wasted little time to crow, with LSU's Les Miles proclaiming that all top 25 teams should be...

With still months to go before the Iowa caucuses, Donald Trump hopped in a golf cart here at Iowa State University and took a victory lap. Hundreds of rowdy football fans swarmed the businessman-turned-presidential candidate Saturday as he zipped around the football stadium -- each extending a hand, hoping for a high-five, and maybe a selfie. "Go get 'em Donald!" one man shouted as Trump worked the tailgating crowd before the day's Iowa-Iowa State game. "I love you!" a woman cried out, rushing in for a picture. All the while, The Donald marveled, urging this reporter to take note of...

One of television’s most sacred and central responsibilities is making sure they only display images that are “right and appropriate” for the viewing public to consume. Yet, judging by NBC’s decision to not show the post-game prayer gathering of players on the field after the Patriots’ 28-21 victory over the Steelers in the Thursday night Kickoff Special, NBC clearly believes public displays of the Christian faith are not suitable for all audiences. It isn’t as if the prayer didn’t happen. Despite the heavy downpour, members of the Patriots and some of their coaching staff knelt and bowed their heads. MRCTV’s...

The District of Columbia's congresswoman on Thursday introduced a bill to strip the NFL of its federal antitrust protection as long as it allows Washington's football team to use the name "Redskins," a moniker some see as racist. Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton said the National Football League and Washington's football team "should not be benefitting financially from federal antitrust exemptions while they continue to promote a disparaging moniker that has been found by legal authorities to be a racial slur." A federal judge in July upheld an earlier decision by the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the...

A Florida State University student who wants to bring her gun to this weekend's football game sued the school Tuesday over a policy that bans concealed-weapons holders from locking their firearms in their cars while in the stadium cheering on their team. The suit was filed by gun rights group Florida Carry on behalf of Rebekah Hargrove, who also wants to drive to campus for classes without violating the school's policy banning firearms in parking lots. "This newest prohibition they put on their game day plan was such a blatant violation of state law,'' said Florida Carry executive director Sean...

Two Texas high school football players who are accused of intentionally slamming a referee to the ground allege the ref directed racial slurs at them, school district officials said Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. [Snip] A video from Friday's game between John Jay High School and Marble Falls High School shows the ref watching a play, and his head snapping back when he is leveled from behind. New details have emerged from the national story involving two Texas-based high school football players who targeted an official during last week’s game. San Antonio Jay assistant coach Mack Breed has been accused of orchestrating the attack and has been placed on administrative leave while the situation is being investigated, according to according to the San Antonio Express-News. Tim Tebow's NFL career was believed to be over before the Philadelphia Eagles signed him this offseason. After a brief reprieve, Philadelphia released the quarterback Saturday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Philly cut ties with the former Heisman Trophy winner after it shipped quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade for a seventh-round draft pick Friday, a deal reported by Schefter (via ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan). On the heels of that move, it seemed as though Tebow would make the team. He certainly made a strong case for himself in the...
