First impressions can be as deceiving in college football as it was with Josef Stalin.
Both FDR and Truman were initially charmed by the Soviet dictator, only to be stabbed in the back by him later. Kinda like how AP voters must have felt right about now.
A week ago, a record 10 SEC teams were ranked in the AP top 25, as the voters were smitten by the conference's 10-1 opening week record, including four victories over Power 5 opponents. SEC coaches wasted little time to crow, with LSU's Les Miles proclaiming that all top 25 teams should be from the SEC and Arkansas' Bret Bielema lambasting defending national champion Ohio State's weak schedule.

A&M has looked strong in it’s first 2 games. It’s still early to say since ASU seems like maybe they aren’t as good as the preseason had them.
Ole Miss and Alabama look strong.
Pac-12 certainly hasn’t looked good.
It’s hard to say with the B-12 because they just don’t play tough teams. Texas definitely sucks, and it’s hard to say with Oklahoma, TCU, and Baylor. I think Baylor is overrated.
It’s just too early in the season to know who is the best. Also, some teams make adjustments and keep getting better (Aggies 2012). Other teams start strong and then fall apart (Aggies 2014).
Go Sooners!
Screw the Bowl system—straight playoffs between the conference champions!
You know, like every other sport, amateur and pro?
But it will never happen as long as you have blowhard conferences that demand their second, third and even fourth-rate teams get post-season ego trips.
My Buckeyes looked bad. Of course, “bad” means winning by only 38-0 against a good Hawaii team.
No snark. We did not look good. If we had played that way against VT, we would have lost.
Hey, Bielema, what do you think about “weak” teams now? /FULLL snark
They're not big on math in the SEC, I take it.
Lots of SEC recruits would not make it into most PAC-12 and BIG-10 schools.
This blather about Missouri winning the East is constantly repeated by the ignorant as if it has some real meaning. The SEC East has been very weak compared to the West for several years. Florida and Tennessee, who won three NCs between them, are both far below their past strength and Tennessee is still struggling to pull out of its worst decade of the modern era.
Georgia is the only SEC East team that has been near the level of several teams in the West recently. They destroyed Missouri last year 34-0, and Missouri has had little or no success the few times they've played the stronger teams in the West. Bama beat them 42-13 in the SEC championship game.
Sorry SEC haters, no matter how many times it's said, Missouri has been little more than a middle-of-the-pack team in the SEC as a whole. They've just had the luck of very weak schedules each year since they joined.
Check out their 2014 scores. If you know anything about the relative strength of SEC teams, you won't be impressed with their overall results.
As a die-hard Dawg from MSU it never ceases to amaze me the level of gloating that arises from other conferences when the SEC has an occasional bad weekend. One would think they consider 4 losses in this conference tantamount to one of the signs of the Apocalypse. Yes, Ark. shouldn’t have lost. Yes, Auburn shouldn’t have been that close. But despite that we’re still 7 teams in the top 25 and that plurality is likely to continue throughout the season. Yes, my school dropped out (thanks to another SEC team), but I have faith in the Bulldogs and next Saturday is another day of worship in the SEC...
SEC is a joke. ESPN is still pumping them up because of their contract tv deal. But SEC will be lucky to get a team in the playoffs... But ESPN will make sure they do. Bug 10 had a strong argument for two teams in the final 4 if Michigan state and Ohio state win out only losing barely to the other.
Big 10+4 is the joke. But for an injured Va. Tech QB, you might be sitting within another season opening loss.
You've got a long way to go. Ohio State is now 1-3 against Bama and 2-8 against SEC teams in bowl games. I guess that's whay you have top brag so much since the opportunities come so infrequently.
Name the two major conferences who were dumb enough to include a number and an indistinct word in their conference names?
Hint: (Big10+4 and Big 12-2)
Great planning and foresight there.
Urban takes a prolonged health related leave of absence around the first of December and doesn’t return until spring. Then Sparty cracks nuts for the holiday season. :)
8 team playoff.
That is what I have wanted for 40 years.
The SEC is guaranteed a playoff spot under the new bowl select system.
That is funny uncle Les.
He is a hoot.
If Bielema’s one-dimensional offense couldn’t run against Toledo, they will struggle mightily against the defenses in the SEC West.
55 years ago this Texas lady married a Sooner....Smartest move I ever made!
Ah a red head, he married up ;)
I can imagine that some fans are loud and proud because they support the football team.
I am loud and proud of Auburn because I went to school there, grew up there, and have a home there. The football program, usually, adds to that pride.
