A 28-year-old intoxicated Florida man on a bicycle was arrested Wednesday after he failed to exit U.S. 1 or stop for deputies. Clayton Guy Peavey of Marathon was charged with DUI and fleeing and eluding, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 37-year-old Islamorada man who stole six electric toothbrushes from Walgreens in Marathon was arrested on Monday morning, authorities said. According to authorities, deputies responded to the Walgreens on 53rd Street around 10:40 a.m. where employees and witnesses stated a man walked out of the store with the items without paying. Sheriff's deputies in the Florida Keys seized 70 pounds of suspected cocaine that was discovered floating in the ocean on Tuesday, just days after another bale of narcotics was found offshore. Genetically modified mosquitoes have been released for the first time in the United States as part of an experiment to combat insect-borne diseases such as Dengue fever, yellow fever, and the Zika virus. KEY LARGO, Fla. — An 11th case of the mosquito-borned dengue fever has been confirmed in the Florida Keys, health officials said. So far, all 11 cases have been in Key Largo, including 8 cases the last week of June, the Florida Department of Health officials said Tuesday. Shortly after entering the water this big manatee came shooting past me like a torpedo. Normally manatees swim 3 to 5 mph but this manatee was travelling at least 20 mph, perhaps because he was taking advantage of a very strong current.
