The world’s tallest prison standing at 300-foot is being built in Chinatown, New York City, sending residents into an uproar. The 40-floor tower which will house 1,000 prisoners will be located on the grounds of the former Manhattan Detention Complex. Known to locals as The Tombs, the old prison will be demolished in order to make way for the “jail scraper”. The destruction of the detention complex has caused major disruption for nearby residents, with heavy dust and loud noise creating chaos.

Jefferson Parish's murder rate continued to spiral upward Friday night, after authorities logged a third killing within 24 hours, pushing the bloodshed to its highest level since 1980. The tally stood at 62 homicides in unincorporated Jefferson Parish, with the West Bank accounting for 43. AN Indonesian district head on Tuesday released 100 snakes to help farmers fight rats which have wreaked havoc with the local rice harvest, a report said. Aided by two snake experts, Sleman District Chief Ibnu Subiyanto freed the snakes, averaging two metres long at 15 separate locations in rice fields in Cangkringan, near the central Java city of Yogyakarta, the state Antara news agency said. The released snakes included pythons, the report said. "These snakes that we have released are to protect the crop.
