  • The Left, the Right, and the Communist Agenda

The history of all ancient societies is the history of class struggle. In each of these we find a complicated arrangement of people into various social, economic, and political orders. Ancient Rome had its patricians, knights, plebeians, and slaves. During the middle ages there were three orders; oratores, bellatores, laborares: this translates as "those who pray", "those who fight", and "those who work". In the 20th Century we have manage to simplify class antagonism via two distinctive groups who are hostile towards and in direct opposition to each others. They are known simply as The Left, and The Right. Therein...

Indiana Governor Pence signed SEA169 and SEA229 into law yesterday, 26 March, 2014, along with 46 other bills.  SEA 169 makes it a felony to knowingly provide a firearm to a felon. SEA 229 is the culmination of the bills to eliminate the "roaming school zones" the school parking lot felony trap, and to prohibit the use of government money for gun turn in events, also known as "buy backs".   The ability of police agencies to destroy guns that are turned in to them was added at the last minute, the bill makes it easier for them to either...

About 30 years ago, I come across the article pictured above.   It is the start of an article in The Slave's Friend, a pamphlet published by an Anti-Slavery abolitionist society out of New York City.    The article is informative in a number of ways. At first glance, the words  "The Slave's Friend" and "Bowie Knife" bring together the idea of an armed slave being able to resist oppression.  That actually was the case in Texas, upheld by the Texas Supreme Court in Cockrum v. State in the antebellum South in 1859.   The case, cited in both the Heller...

A Coopersville kindergarten teacher who resigned from the Michigan Education Association under the state's worker freedom law says she is glad her ordeal is over, but is concerned for her colleagues, according to a story in The Grand Rapids Press. "I am very thankful that the MEA has finally recognized my right to opt out, but my settlement doesn't bring justice to the thousands of other teachers in my position in West Michigan and across the state of Michigan," Miriam Chanski, who along with Petoskey teacher Ray Arthur is now free from the MEA, told The Press. "This is not...

Spring Street, where the citizens shot up the gang in 1922 Recently, a video of a Eureka Springs, Arkansas City Council meeting showed them to be a little hostile to armed citizens.  It was not always so.   Because of that article, I became aware of one of the great examples of armed citizens stopping a criminal gang in the commission of a bank robbery. No, I am not talking about the  James-Younger Gang and how they were shot to pieces in Northfield Minnesota in 1876.  One bank clerk was murdered, and one townsman, an immigrant who was believed not...

College football players should not be paid. Plain and simple. But there is no reason why any player should not be given carte blanche to capitalize on his chosen sport. Capitalism 101 rides to the rescue once again. In addition to the free education players get, any player, on scholarship or not, should be allowed to sell and hawk his personal merchandise from t-shirt to jockstrap. He or she should be allowed to put his name and school name/logo on his jersey or helmet or whatever - just like the pros do. A player could sell and trade cards with...
  • Non-Christians Given 'Special Consideration' In Union Teacher Contract

The teachers union contract in Ferndale Public Schools in Oakland County gives "special consideration" to applicants who are of "the non-Christian faith." Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination in employment and public services on the basis of religion. The state constitution says it, "shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting." And the Federal Civil Rights Act prohibits employment discrimination based on religion. The discriminatory provision in the Ferndale teachers union contract...

I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but as the father of two children who are still too young to be in school the thought that this is what will meet them when they finally start is terrifying to me.The math is enough to put me over the edge, but the history is worse (especially the second amendment stuff) because these kids are being conditioned to WANT to be controlled by government. Paraphrasing Reagan, this truly puts our freedom one generation away from extinction...

A number of years ago I came across a good image of the above Slave's Friend abolitionist pamphlet.   It was published sometime between 1836 and 1860, most likely in the earlier years.    Freeper Ruy Dias de Bivar was kind enough to send me the image above, which is from MAN AT ARMS, published by the NRA, August, 1997, page 12. I intend to make this pamphlet easily available on the Internets, but I need a better image than the one above.   I know at least one better one exists, because I saw it in a reference book on weapons...

While it appears that victims are generally better at disarming criminals, than criminals are at disarming victims, it is a very dangerous business that should not be attempted lightly.  From Houston, 14news.com: Henderson Police say the suspect tried to rob the victim at gunpoint, but the victim fought back and tried to get the gun. Police say the gun went off during the struggle and the victim was shot in the foot. It is possible that being shot in the foot was an acceptable trade-off.  There is not enough in the story to determine if that were so, and it is a subjective judgment....

Indiana is the first state among the 45 who adopted Common Core standards since 2010, to drop out. Governor Mike Pence (R) said: I believe when we reach the end of this process there are going to be many other states around the country that will take a hard look at the way Indiana has taken a step back, designed our own standards and done it in a way where we drew on educators, we drew on citizens, we drew on parents and developed standards that meet the needs of our people. Toward the end of this article on Democrat Senators' attempts to deceive their voters, John Lott has some interesting and hard to find numbers on children, guns, and accidents compared to other items.  Accidental gun deaths involving children are especially horrible, but they are fortunately rare. Take the last five years for which the Centers for Disease Control data are available, 2006 to 2010. On average there were 33 accidental gun deaths per year for children under 10. Including children under 15 raises the number to 58. Research done on cases before the CDC privacy restrictions found that most...

SEA 169 and SEA 229 arrived on Governor Pence's desk today, 20 March, with 192 other bills.  The Governor now has seven days to sign, veto, or allow the bills to become law.  If he takes the last option, the bill becomes law on the 8th day. SEA 169 makes it a felony to knowingly provide a firearm to a felon. SEA 229 is the culmination of the bills to eliminate the "roaming school zones" the school parking lot felony trap, and to prohibit the use of government money for gun turn in events, also known as "buy backs".   While...

Constitutional/open/Celebrate Act 746 Walk in Russelville, Arkansas Two separate open carry/ constitutional carry, or celebrate Act 746 walks, took place in Arkansas last Saturday, 15 March.   One of the walks was in Russelville, the second was in Mountain Home.   Both walks were peaceful and relatively uneventful, as has come to be the norm.  No one was arrested and a good time was had.  From Arkansascarry.com: The Russellvile open carry celebration walk on March 15th, 2014 was another huge success. The Russellville police department was very easy to work with and Fat Daddy's BBQ did an excellent job feeding all of...

Participants, spectators and critics produced scores of historical documents during the French Revolution.   These items are now available in the French Revolution Digital Archive, a digital collection recently released by Stanford Libraries.   FRDA brings together two foundational sources for French Revolution research: the Archives parlementaires, a day-to-day record of parliamentary debates and discussions held between 1789 and 1794, and Images de la Révolution française, a vast visual corpus from the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.  The archive was a multiyear endeavor and was developed in response to expressed need by scholars for improved access to their sources, according to...
