Aggregator extraordinaire Matt Drudge briefly linked to Gawker’s story that alleged ABC’s Robin Roberts “wasn’t enthusiastic” about landing her big gay marriage interview with President Obama because she was worried it would call attention to the “near-open secret that Roberts is a lesbian” this afternoon and the site took the opportunity to taunt him with an update. “Internet behemoth Matt Drudge, who has just directed his readers to this post, is also commonly understood to be gay,” the update said. Mr. Drudge removed his link to Gawker within a matter of minutes.

Rick Santorum isn’t happy about the possibility of Matt Drudge being out to help Mitt Romney, and he’s being vocal about it. But at least one conservative who has been sympathetic to Santorum in the past is telling him to knock it off with indicting Drudge in this: Glenn Beck, who compared Drudge to William Randolph Hearst and insisted Santorum not fight with “a man who buys ink by the barrel.”

In remarks to about 250 supporters in the auditorium of a Masonic lodge, the surging Republican presidential hopeful and former Pennsylvania senator didn’t directly refer to any of his recent campaign-trail statements that have drawn controversy. -snip- The audience applauded, as did the man, who earlier in the speech was holding up a sign that read, “Drudge wants Mitt. Rick Santorum was sitting at the center of the Drudge Report's homepage Tuesday afternoon looking like a religious nut. "SANTORUM'S SATAN WARNING," the headline screamed, under a black-and-white photo of the candidate standing behind a lectern with a cross on it. The conservative blogger drives mad crazy traffic, and he's using it to attack the biggest threat to his reported ally, Mitt Romney.
