The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has identified a man killed in a dog attack as 83-year-old Michael Downing. Downing was killed by his neighbor's dogs at about 4 p.m. Friday, officials said. The hole in the fence where witnesses said the dogs came through is now boarded up. A bedbug-detecting dog confirmed there were bedbugs in that office and in the offices of community services ... Bedbugs had been reported at two privately owned boarding houses in May. Our hearts are aching as our dearest and sweetest four legged friend pasted away last night. Hope would have been 15 next month. She was grouchy in her old age, but there was a time the kids in the neighborhood thought of her like she was one of them and we actually had kids ring the door bell to see if Hope could come out to play. North Carolina police are investigating a case of abuse for a former police K9, who was left starving in a backyard, chained to a fence.
