North Carolina police are investigating a case of abuse for a former police K9, who was left starving in a backyard, chained to a fence. According to Tilted Acres Rescue & Adoption, the dog whose name is Hope, was so emaciated and malnourished, that she ranked 1 on a body mass index of 1 to 9.
This made her case the worst incident of abuse the shelter has ever seen.

I will adopt her. I live in Raleigh, NC.
How awful!
I thought those dog-officers usually get adopted by their partners/handlers who take good care of them.
I hope they will find a good home for this dog.
Poor thing, what a good girl, this is wrong on so many levels. How could something like this happen? I hope they throw the book at the scumball.
Here’s the rescue that has her now, with an update:

Is she going to be okay?
Sorry, I’m not going to the link to see this dog in the condition described...I don’t have the stomach!
This dog came to our rescue in 2010 weighing 37 pounds when he should have been 90 pounds. After weeks of care he made a full recovery. Courage is still alive and well today.

You abuse an animal, you’ll bugger a kid.
Actually the picture shows how cute she is. Absolutely adorable.
Or murder a person without thinking twice.
The charge should be felony animal abuse. There is no excuse for this level of cruelty, makes me sick.
Both of these cases just made me heart sick.
How could anybody DO such a thing?
In Martinsburg WV, a K9 cop’s dog was ‘being retired’ and due to some stupid rule, he, as an active duty cop, could *not* keep the dog.
After literally fighting city hall for a month, he _quit his job_ and got his dog back.
That is devotion.
It’s well deserved devotion. The dog would gladly die to protect it’s owner.
Too bad “commit suicide” is not on the list.
The guy is my hero.
I followed the family’s story on FB for a month and it was agonizingly heart breaking.
Happiest ending, ever.
Almost everything in life worth having comes with a price. The dog gets to live out it’s life with the people it loves, and that’s priceless.
His situation is not even remotely unique.
This happens all the time.
Same with war dogs.
This is the story.
He resigned his rank and went back to being a beat cop, at a great loss of pay and retirement.
Gotta love him.
