The letter represents Jewish leaders from across the political spectrum. It was sent this week to AT&T CEO John Stankey, AT&T Board Chairman William Kennard, DirecTV CEO William Morrow, and TPG CEO Jon Winkelried, questions and challenges the recent removal of Newsmax's channel from DirecTV, specifically inquiring of the executives regarding any plans to return the network to their systems...Noting their role as community leaders who "represent millions of Jewish Americans," the letter noted Newsmax's role as "a crucial way for us to reach our fellow Americans to share our perspectives on anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, the State of Israel and other...

A couple of years ago I disconnected from Direct TV. I really miss caller ID coming up on the TV to identify a caller. I now use a laptop to feed my HDMI jack my video's. The laptop has a modem on Com 3 that is capable of caller ID. I haven't been able to find a software solution for the laptop to display a number so I can sit in my Lazyboy and see if I want to get up to answer the phone. I've downloaded a couple of programs that say they work, but I'm unable to make...

We see a constant effort from liberal groups to take down conservative hosts and conservative media. It seems there’s a push periodically to do in Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and others. There’s a current push to even demonize Joe Rogan who isn’t exactly conservative but suffers from three things that the liberal media doesn’t like – common sense, honest approach, and more viewers than them.As we reported a couple of days ago, there was even a push to get Spotify to shut Rogan down, for “misinformation,” but Spotify appears not to be caving. We also saw Dan Bongino suspended from...

One of the nation’s biggest satellite broadcasters, DirecTV, plans to drop carriage of the fringe right-wing cable outlet One America News, several months after a Reuters report revealed that AT&T, one of DirecTV’s owners, was responsible for a large part of the media outlet’s overall revenue. OAN is owned by Herring Networks, founded by the entrepreneur Robert Herring Sr. “We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” DirecTV said in a statement. A spokesman would not comment on a report from Bloomberg News...

As our calculator shows, the perhaps impulsive addition of just one service to your budget can snowball into a hefty outlay over a hypothetical half-century horizon, particularly when you're looking at that "true" lifetime cost. Take someone paying for Netflix's NFLX, +0.07% standard subscription and Hulu, with no add-ons. That person is looking at a monthly bill of $18.98, and a lifetime aggregate cost of $19,264. Factor in the opportunity cost -- as represented by how much money could have been made investing that same money in the S&P 500 over those years -- and the lifetime cost balloons to...

CBS is warning viewers that its stations could be blacked out on AT&T’s DirecTV and Uverse pay-TV services on July 19 and that the network could be pulled from streaming service DirecTV Now because of a dispute over programming fees. CBS Logo “CBS would like to avoid being dropped, but unless an agreement is reached, our viewers should be prepared for DirecTV and AT&T Uverse TV to remove CBS-owned television stations,” CBS said in a statement Tuesday. AT&T is currently in a retransmission consent fee dispute with Nexstar that has resulted in about 120 stations being blacked out for nearly...

The top 11 U.S. pay TV operators lost 2.87 million customers in 2018, nearly double the 1.5 million the domestic ecosystem shed in 2017. These are the latest quarterly findings by Leichtman Research Group (LRG), which measures the leading operators covering 95% of the U.S. market. The big negative drivers were the two satellite TV companies, DirecTV and Dish Network, which lost a ton of customers on the linear side, but this time couldn’t make up for it with gains by their low-margin virtual pay TV services. The two satellite carriers lost a combined 2.36 million linear customers in 2018,...

DirecTV is allowing at least some customers to cancel subscriptions to its Sunday Ticket package of NFL games and obtain refunds, if they cite players’ national anthem protests as the reason for discontinuing service, customer service representatives said Tuesday. Under Sunday Ticket’s regular policy, refunds are not to be given once the season is underway. But the representatives said they are making exceptions this season—which began in September—because of the controversy over the protests, in which players kneel or link arms during the national anthem. DirecTV service representatives contacted by The Wall Street Journal had different understandings of the policy....
  • Direct TV is Blocking Fox & Friends

Right before the election, this is the third day in a row that Fox and Friends has been BLOCKED by Direct TV. Apparently it is going on all over the country, not just here in the Northeast. People are tuning in at that time before work, and Direct TV switches the channel to Fusion. They replace the screen with this message: "We are experiencing temporary technical difficulties. We apologize for the inconvenience." I've tried calling 3 times to complain, but they are not taking calls. Post to Twitter, Facebook, anywhere you can to keep the pressure on Direct TV. Rush...
  • Direct TV Pulls Rob Lowe Ads After Comcast Complaints

    Breitbart News ^ | April 9, 2015 | by DANIEL NUSSBAUM
DirecTV has pulled a popular advertising campaign featuring actor Rob Lowe after cable company Comcast complained that many of the ads’ claims could not be supported by evidence. The ads feature two “versions” of Lowe – the “cool” DirecTV subscriber Rob Lowe, and the “Super Creepy” cable subscriber Rob Lowe. Various iterations of the ads substitute “Super Creepy” for other derogatory versions of the character, like “Painfully Awkward” Rob Lowe, or “Broken-Down Less Attractive” Rob Lowe. Cable company Comcast made several complaints about the ad campaign to the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Better Business Bureau, which hears claims...

DirecTV, the No. 1 U.S. satellite TV operator, said on Sunday it has agreed to sell itself to AT&T for $48.5 billion, in the second mega-deal to shake up the U.S. television landscape this year.

The deal with Dallas-based AT&T, which has some TV and broadband services, is the latest in a string of big takeovers the wireless operator has considered. Those include an abortive bid for T-Mobile USA in 2011, as well as a potential takeover of Vodafone Plc that receded as a possibility after Comcast Corp surprised the industry this year with a $45 billion bid for Time Warner Cable Inc.

Viacom Inc. (VIA, VIAB) channels could go dark for DirecTV Group Inc. (DTV) subscribers at midnight in one of the more-significant recent standoffs over television carriage fees. The pending blackout further highlighted mounting pressure on Viacom, which has seen its ratings fall off in recent months for top shows like Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" and MTV's "Jersey Shore." Viacom class A shares fell 2% Tuesday to $49.98, while DirecTV shares slid 0.5% to $48.77. Viacom is seeking an increase of 30%, or more than $1 billion, in carriage fees, DirecTV said in a statement on its website Tuesday. The country's second-largest...

Looks like an angel; strong as the devil . . . Hey, it's the Friday after Thanksgiving, a classically slow news day. So let's have some fun. For months I've been fascinated by the TV commercial for DirectTV. The focus is a man we instantly understand to be a Russian billionaire businessman/mobster. "I like the best. Opulence: I has it," he explains as the commercial opens. And sure enough, he's surrounded by the flashiest things—and women—that money can buy. With no Morning Joe to bust today, I was catching up on some House episodes I'd DVD'ed, and during an October...

Today in America times are tough and customers are hard to come by. That is why it is important not to do your customers wrong. DirecTV doesn’t seem to understand this philosophy. They give you substandard service and then when you had enough they try to extort money from you. I have cancelled my DirecTV service because of bad or what I like to call NO customer service. Now they want to tell me I owe almost $400.oo in contract cancellation fees. I never signed a contract with DirecTV. I have noticed through all my research that many people have...

DirecTV Group Inc. is preparing to launch a broadband-video service before the end of the year. The service will start with a library of 2,000 videos, company executives said yesterday at an annual investor meeting in New York. Customers with a DirecTV Plus digital-video recorder will be able to order programs "on demand" from their television sets or remotely through a Web site. The videos would then be downloaded onto the DVR and be available for viewing later in the day or the following day. It won't be streaming real-time, but "it'll be faster than Netflix," said Eric Shanks, executive...

We should have learned by now that government is a terrible steward of competition. Its natural impulse is to regulate or manage, when the best it could do is get out of the way. This is especially true when rapid technological change disrupts an industrial sector, like telecommunications, that for decades operated under a restrictive regulatory regime based on the premise all we needed was one provider. With deployment of high-speed fiber optic networks, broadband providers, phone companies and even power companies are poised to enter the local video market, finally offering American families a competitive alternative that will drive...

I have a Toshiba television/VCR combination unit. It has a coax input jack and also RCA video/audio (yellow/white) input jacks. The television is programmable for turning VCR recording on and off. Here's the problem: we have DirectTV on this television, and want to record a program. The DirectTV receiver, as you may know, doesn't use the coax input, but rather uses the RCA input. In order to view DirectTV, we have to switch the television from "standard" (signal from coax) to "Line in." Now, when I attempt to program the VCR timer, the only option I see is to select...
