DirecTV Allows Some NFL Refunds After Anthem Controversy
The Wall Street Journal ^ | September 26, 2017 | Joe Flint, Amol Sharma and Andrew Beaton

DirecTV is allowing at least some customers to cancel subscriptions to its Sunday Ticket package of NFL games and obtain refunds, if they cite players’ national anthem protests as the reason for discontinuing service, customer service representatives said Tuesday.

Under Sunday Ticket’s regular policy, refunds are not to be given once the season is underway. But the representatives said they are making exceptions this season—which began in September—because of the controversy over the protests, in which players kneel or link arms during the national anthem.

DirecTV service representatives contacted by The Wall Street Journal had different understandings of the policy. One said refunds to those concerned about the anthem protests are only allowed for people with certain offers or plans. One representative said full refunds were available for subscribers complaining about anthem protests. Another said such people could only get pro-rated refunds for the remainder of the season. Yet other representatives said refunds still aren’t allowed for any reason and that the policy hadn’t changed.

Mark Hoffman, a longtime subscriber to Sunday Ticket, which gives sports fans the ability to watch every Sunday game, said in an interview he was able to cancel his subscription on Monday. The package costs around $280 per-season.

Aside from DirecTV, the NFL-owned channel RedZone, which provides live action and scoring from every game on Sundays, is also experiencing some cancellations due to the protests.

Chuck Plavk, a veteran who resides in Wisconsin, cancelled his subscription to the channel from Charter Communications’ Spectrum Cable. He said when he called, the customer service representative said, “everybody’s calling about that today.” Unlike Sunday Ticket, which is only available through DirecTV, RedZone is available through a number of cable providers and streaming outlets.

Maybe AT&T/DirecTV's bottom line. It's not really doing anything to the NFL itself. The NFL already has its revenue from the TV networks secured by contract that runs through 2021. The NFL is beyond any meaningful financial reach for several years yet.

Good news.

After subscribers do that, they can do a simple two step program to prevent ESPN/Disney from getting any future money from them via their cable subscription.

You can help to put down the anti America National Felon League with two simple steps this week!:

Disney owns ESPN!

What networks/? does Disney own?:
Disney/ABC Television Group. Disney/ABC Television Group operates Disney’s broadcast television, cable television and radio businesses. ...
ESPN, Inc. ...
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts U.S., Inc. ...
Lucasfilm Ltd. ...
Marvel Entertainment, LLC.

If freepers are really serious about this issue, they can do two things this week:

1. Cancel/cut their cable and go to a good internet to stream the tv shows they watch. Disney/ABC/ESPN and the above are owned by Disney. Each month they get a huge share of your monthly cable bill. Cut the cable, and they lose that monthly bite out of your bill. You will save a lot of money each month.
2. Use Sling Blue TV for streaming the channels you will watch. Sling Blue does not carry ESPN or Disney. So, again the evil Disney/ESPN/NFL gay hate America liberals get nothing from you.

Talking tough and posting pompous threats are cheap and not effective.

Cutting their economic tv take is like using a laser guided smart bomb to cut off/destroy their financial tentacles.

Without their monthly financial take from your cable tv, the NFL will fade away like a bad dose of the GI Trots.

If you really want to smack/hurt ESPN/NFL/Disney just do #1 and #2 above this week.

You will save a lot of money each month besides feeling better.

The NFL is beyond any meaningful financial reach for several years yet.

Nonsense. The NFL has already charged advertisers based on projected ratings. If the ratings are significantly lower, the league had to provide refunds to the advertisers.

After the first two weeks of the seasons, the ratings had declined to the point that it will cost the league an estimated $200 million in revenue.
