Nearly 400 workers at the Evraz Steel mill in Claymont will be out of work come December. Evraz announced this morning it is suspending operations at its Delaware facility due to “subdued market demand and the high volume of imports.” The company says its 375 workers in Claymont will finish processing and shipping existing products over the next two months, then prepare the mill for idling. A small crew will remain to maintain the site. “We appreciate our employees’ efforts to operate Evraz Claymont as efficiently as possible,” said the company’s Executive Vice President for Flat Products and Recycling John...

  • LITTLE MISS HISPANIC WINNER LOSES TITLE IN DEL. (not Latina enough)

The winner of the Little Miss Hispanic Delaware contest has been stripped of her crown over concerns that she is not Hispanic. The News Journal of Wilmington (http://delonline.us/15AmTA6) reported Saturday that 7-year-old Jakiya McKoy lost the title two weeks ago. Some critics of the decision say the move was made because McKoy is black and not Latina enough, though organizers say it had nothing to do with race. "There is just like a baseline of disrespect to black women," Daniel Jose Older, who started a Change.org petition, told the newspaper. "As Latinos, it's really important that we understand what's going...

Karl Rove is a political hack good at only one thing, fundraising. Karl Rove was the biggest loser of the 2012 elections. And what does the man who squandered over $300 miillion on ridiculous election ads do? He creates a new money-making spinoff of American Crossroads; the Conservative Victory Project. Equating the term Conservative with Karl Rove is akin to likening it with Barack Hussein Obama. Good old Karl now has his hands in three Republican PACS. For those that may have forgotten, Rove and the GOP establishment backed David Dewhurst over Ted Cruz, Trey Grayson over Rand Paul, Bob...

Finally: A White Riot. In Newark, Del., Monday night, police dispersed more than 3,000 rowdy teenagers who were just blowing off some steam at a “Shmacked Tour” party event. Everyone was white. There might have been a few Asians here and there. But white was the color of this crime. According to WDEL: “More than 1,000 people were partying in the backyard of a house, where a DJ was spinning. When police arrived, the crowd broke up, blocking traffic on South College Avenue and Main Street. Police say many of the students walked on the hoods of cars. “ After...

The original news story from local sources and linked on the Drudge Report said 12 teens raped two women, aged 32 and 24, Thursday evening in Wilmington, Del., and police were looking for help in finding the suspects. The local Wilmington paper dutifully said the police were searching for “teens” of unspecified race. Only later was it reported the teens – all believed by police to be between age 12 and 17 – were also black. Local readers noticed the omission. “Maybe they could get some help finding these youths if they would give a description,” said Michael Harmon in...

Biden’s foray into politics comes after he spent a week secluded in his Delaware house. The low-profile stretch followed a week-long stay at a private estate in the Hamptons, a wealthy area east of New York City. He put out a new post on his blog Aug. 15, lauding a Father Roberto Balducelli as a ”great friend of mine.” In his Aug. 15 post,...

Charging that Delaware officials have stopped cooperating with his investigation, Sen. Chuck Grassley on Friday sent a pointed letter to the state's Division of Revenue in which he outlines specific, outstanding questions that still swirl around the handling of former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell’s tax records. “On multiple occasions, my staff has requested a copy of your records retention policy, the opportunity to speak with [officials at the state's Division of Revenue] and other clarifications related to these matters. To date, you have failed to respond,” the letter from the Iowa Republican reads in part. In a case first...

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a hearing on the Renewable Fuel Standard this fall, Bettina Poirier, a Democratic committee aide, told The Hill on Wednesday. The announcement raises the specter that changes to the nearly decade-old biofuel-blending mandate could be in the offing. The planned hearing comes as members on the House Energy and Commerce Committee are working on legislation to overhaul the rule. The mandate, approved by Congress in a 2005 energy law and expanded two years later, requires refiners to blend 36 billion gallons of biofuel with conventional petroleum by 2022. Some Democrats on...
