Up to 20,000 migrants and asylum seekers could be turfed onto the streets in Italy because of a shortfall in funding for the country’s overstretched reception centres, the interior ministry has warned. A budget shortfall of 60 million euros could lead to the closing of some reception centres within weeks. Migrants would then have to fend for themselves but would also be free to try to head towards the wealthier countries of northern Europe, including Britain. The interior ministry warned that having so many migrants wandering around Italy “could create problems of public order because of the social tensions that...

Security has been stepped up in the German city of Dresden, following two bomb attacks on a mosque and a conference center Monday evening. No one was injured in the attacks, which included two homemade devices, according to police. The bombings come ahead of next weekend's German Unity Day celebrations, which German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to attend. The celebrations mark the 26th anniversary of the reunification of East and West Germany. The explosions -- first at the mosque and then at the International Congress Center -- happened within minutes of each other, leading police to believe they're related....

Islamophobia is all about faking it.You may have seen the headlines claiming that “hate crimes” against Muslims have soared to levels not seen since 9/11. According to this controversial study, hate crimes had increased 78%. All the media had to do was fill in the boilerplate language blaming Trump and Islamophobic discourse by conservatives. These numbers come from the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University San Bernardino. It’s conveniently located around 11 miles from the site of the Muslim massacre in San Bernardino. One of its authors, Kevin Grisham, was the former director of...

The campaign is aimed at addressing negative depictions and rhetoric, officials said.

Leaked document reveals the staggering breadth of domestic terrorist activity -- and the administration's cover-up.The Obama administration has been concealing the staggering breadth of terrorist activity in the United States – quantified as close to 8,000 terrorist encounters in a recent year -- a leaked government report suggests. There are disturbing parallels between the Obama administration’s ongoing cover-up of the true extent of terrorist operations in the U.S. and its election season cover-up four years ago of the real causes of the Benghazi, Libya terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2012. Remember that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton publicly lied four...

Sweden may be descending into a crisis as a new report suggests 80 per cent of police officers are considering switching careers due to the danger they face in the field. The criminal situation in Sweden may be heading for an even worse turn as a new report has shown that the vast majority of the Swedish police force is so unhappy they are looking into other careers. Sweden has been rocked by increasing levels of criminality from sex attacks at music festivals, hand grenade attacks and violence toward the police in areas populated mostly by migrants.

From a charred Hebrew scroll, researchers resurrected one of the earliest known versions of the Old Testament using a new digital reconstruction technique that may prove invaluable in revealing words from other previously unreadable finds, said scientists who plan to make the imaging software freely available. In research published in Science Advances Wednesday, computer analysts at the University of Kentucky in Lexington detailed the technology they used to reveal text within a roll of parchment reduced to charcoal in a burning synagogue 1,500 years ago, “virtually unwrapping” the scroll without ever actually touching the artifact. While important to archaeologists, the...

Hillary Clinton has been declared the winner of the most watched debate ever by the bulk of the media, but they may be once again demonstrating their failure to understand what makes Donald Trump voters tick — and why his fans think he came out on top, according to political analysts. “Clinton and Trump are talking to two very different countries, and political analysts and reporters are generally in the country Clinton, not Trump, inhabits.” wrote Larry Sabato, the author of Sabato’s Crystal Ball and a political science professor at the University of Virginia. Sabato, elaborating in comments to the...

Entrepreneur Elon Musk unveiled his contrarian vision for sending humans to Mars in roughly the next decade, and ultimately setting up colonies there, relying on bold moves by private enterprise, instead of more-gradual steps previously proposed by Washington. Mr. Musk—who in 14 years transformed his closely held rocket company, Space Exploration Technologies Corp., into a global presence—envisions hosts of giant, reusable rockets standing more than 300 feet tall eventually launching fleets of carbon-fiber spacecraft into orbit. The boosters would return to Earth, blast off again into the heavens with “tanker” spaceships capable of refueling the initial vehicles, and then send...

The way Cait Flanders got her financial house in order should probably come with a “Try this at your own risk” warning. First, the Canadian blogger paid off $30,000 in student and credit card debt. A year later, Flanders threw out 75% of her belongings and put herself on a strict two-year shopping ban. Since then, she’s learned a lot about money, budgeting, and why we spend — she even lost 30 pounds. Now she has some tips to share. After becoming financially free, Flanders still didn’t feel satisfied with the way she was handling her money, so in 2014,...

There is no possible way that among the Syrian refugees desperately needing our help, there could be a few dangerous terrorists. It is only ridiculous, racist conservatives – the types of people who will vote for Donald Trump - who insult the Syrian people, and intelligent liberals everywhere, by saying that there could be. We know this because we were instructed in that regard by earnest, progressive commentators who were out recently parading their caring tolerance in reaction to the son of the Republican candidate for president in the United States. Except that they are wrong; and provably so. Donald...

This past Monday marked the 20th anniversary of President Bill Clinton using the Antiquities Act to create the 1.5 million-acre Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah. For most Utahns, this date is not a cause for celebration. It’s a source of anger toward what many see as an out-of-touch and overbearing federal government Infamously, the Clinton administration failed to notify the people of Utah prior to announcing the monument designation—probably because the administration knew that nearly everyone in the state was opposed to the idea. Utah’s congressional delegation, state and county leaders, and local residents all warned that a...

Skyscrapers in the City of London could soon be built by robots rather than by people, according to the boss of one of the UK’s biggest construction firms. The result would be huge productivity gains as more work could be done by fewer people – but also mass layoffs as traditionally labour-intensive construction projects hire fewer and fewer staff. “We’re ,” said Alison Carnwath, the chairman of Land Securities, the £8.2bn FTSE 100 construction company. Speaking at the Institute of Directors’ annual convention, the veteran businesswoman said the pace of technological change has taken her by surprise.

--SNIP-- The man's suit joins a series of similar complaints lodged against schools including Swarthmore College and St. Joseph's and Philadelphia Universities. It comes amid a growing concern among some academics and legal experts that, in trying to become more responsive to reports of sexual violence on their campuses, some universities may have overcorrected to the detriment of students facing the accusations.
