The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday unanimously dismissed a longshot bid by former President Donald Trump to disqualify quash the special grand jury report that recommended criminal charges in the Fulton County district attorney’s probe of Georgia’s 2020 election. The state Supreme Court also rejected Trump’s request that it bar Fulton DA Fani Willis from continuing to oversee the criminal investigation. The ruling came weeks before Willis is expected to seek indictments in the probe of efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral victory over him in the Peach State.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump must answer questions under oath in New York state’s civil investigation into his business practices, a judge ruled Thursday. Trump and his two children must sit for a deposition within 21 days, Engoron said. Engoron issued the ruling after a two-hour hearing with lawyers for the Trumps and James’ office. “In the final analysis, a State Attorney General commences investigating a business entity,...

And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them. 1 Samuel 17:23 The ruling in Pennsylvania is a landmark ruling for the Trump case, saying these mail-in ballots were an unconstitutional plot by the Governor to bypass the power of the legislature and the certification cannot be done. What was determined by Justice Patricia A McCullough is that the case against the changing of the voting rules to allow mail-in voting was...

  • U.S. appeals court removes new voter-intimidation rules in Ohio

    11/06/2016 4:26:49 PM PST · by ameribbean expat · 15 replies
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump won a legal battle on Sunday when a U.S. appeals court in Ohio removed new restrictions on partisan poll watchers that Democrats had sought to prevent Election Day voter intimidation. The rules overturned by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals would have imposed greater penalties on people who harass voters during Tuesday's election. Voter intimidation already is prohibited under U.S. law but Democrats have pushed for greater restrictions in Ohio and five other battleground states, citing concerns that Trump's heated rhetoric might inspire Election Day chaos.

Malia Brooks, from Southern California, pleaded guilty in June to three counts of committing lewd acts with a child under 14 and faced up to 12-years in prison, but Judge Kevin McGee imposed a sentence half that because of the fact she was experiencing manic episodes at the time.

There has been no shortage of court cases regarding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. Before today, four courts, including the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, examined the health reform law and found it constitutional. Today, a different court ruled against the Affordable Care Act’s individual responsibility provision. We strongly disagree with this decision and we are confident it will not stand. The individual responsibility provision – the main part of the law at issue in these cases – is constitutional. Those who claim this provision exceeds Congress’ power to regulate interstate commerce are incorrect. Individuals who choose to...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama launched an extraordinary attack on the Supreme Court on Saturday, saying a ruling on corporate donations to political campaigns this week "strikes at democracy itself." Obama's broadside was triggered by a 5-4 ruling by the court's justices on Thursday that removed long-standing campaign finance limits and allowed corporations to spend freely in campaigns for president and Congress. In the ruling, the court's conservative majority said the limits had violated corporations' constitutional right to free speech. The ruling is expected to unleash a flood of money into this year's congressional elections. Obama's fellow Democrats face...

In a ruling that is sure to cause more headaches than the left realizes, a British judge has ruled in favor of a man who was fired on grounds that he was unfairly dismissed due to religious views. Judge David Sneath ruled that an executive fired from a property company can claim he was unfairly dismissed because of his "philosophical belief in climate change". The judge ruled that Global Warming was the man's religion and thus his right to religious expression was violated when they fired him.

It took seven years, but Charles Ulrich did something many people dream about, but few succeed at: He beat the IRS in a tax dispute. Not only that, but tax experts say potentially millions of other taxpayers could benefit from his victory. The accountant from Baxter, Minn., challenged the method the IRS has used for more than 20 years to tax shares and cash distributed by mutual life insurance firms to their policyholders when they reorganize as public companies. A federal court recently agreed with his interpretation. "There's a tremendous amount of money at stake," said Robert Willens, a New...

BERKELEY -- Amid screams, the buzz of a news helicopter and the rattle of barricades by angry people in the street, UC Berkeley today dismantled more of the tree-top encampment of protesters in a grove of trees next to Memorial Stadium. A crew of arborists and workers hired by the campus engaged in their second day of cutting ropes, removing supplies and tearing out improvised structures as tree-sitter sympathizers yelled at the workers from Piedmont Avenue and at stern-faced UC police who ringed the site. By early afternoon, virtually all of the protesters' ropes were gone. The year-and-a-half-old tree protest...

AUSTIN – Texas Child Protective Services will ask the state's highest court to keep a polygamist sect's children in state custody, following a Thursday appeals court ruling that ordered the youngsters be returned to their homes. Texas Supreme Court spokesman Osler McCarthy said attorneys for the state called Friday morning and said they'd be "filing an action in this court" later in the day. On Thursday, a state appeals court ordered many though perhaps not all of a polygamist sect's children returned to their parents Thursday, saying Texas failed to prove they were in physical jeopardy and urgently needed to...

WASHINGTON, June 29, 2006 – Today's Supreme Court decision specifically invites the administration to work with Congress to change the law so it can try some detainees through military tribunals, senior officials from the Departments of Justice and Defense said today. The Supreme Court ruled 5-3 this morning that military commissions for detainees charged with war crimes would violate the Uniform Code of Military Justice as well as four Geneva Conventions. While ruling against military tribunals for detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as they currently stand, the court's decision notes that "nothing prevents the administration from going to Congress...

A bank manager's 'gesture of affection' towards a colleague cost him his job and a £1,000 fine AN ITALIAN bank manager who tried to kiss a woman cashier on the lips on Valentine’s Day has lost his job, been given a 14-month suspended jail sentence and fined after being convicted of “sexual violence”. The ruling by Italy’s highest court puts another dent in the reputation of the macho Italian male, always on the lookout — according to the national myth — for a chance to pay a woman a compliment and overwhelm her with his charm. Last week the Third District Court of Appeals here issued a little noticed and poorly reported ruling that updated a chronicle of waste and corruption in California's Department of Education (CDE). The CDE, which administers more than 40 percent of California's budget, maintains some curious practices on the issue of accountability. When veteran employees uncover massive waste of taxpayer money and blatant fraud, the CDE does not reward the courageous whistleblowers. It prefers to fire, demote and harass them, and then destroys the evidence by wiping out files on their computers and shredding documents. Those are among the many details...
