Based on these new 8 Gb components, I'M is also introducing the first 16 Gigabyte (GB) DDR3 UDIMM and SO-DIMM memory modules with optional ECC error-correction.The JEDEC specification JESD79-3 has always allowed an 8 Gb density for DDR3...

When you take a look at Net Applications' web desktop browser market share reports over the long run two things stand out. One, there's the rise of Google's Chrome to second place, and two, Mozilla's Firefox's steep decline. After a long slow fall, Firefox's market-share decline recently got steeper. How bad is Firefox's fall? In June 2014, Firefox hit a new five-year low of 15.6 percent market share.Back in October 2009, Firefox was on the rise and had reached 23.75 percent. Life was good. Since July 2012, the browser started trending downward. Indeed, since May 2013, with Firefox at 20.6%,...

Have you ever sold an old smartphone on eBay? You might be interested to know that the apps, photos and even Google searches on your phone can still be recovered — even if you performed a factory reset. The team at security software company Avast purchased 20 different phones on eBay and unleashed data-recovery tools on them to see what they could find. The results are persuasive evidence that resetting your phone back to factory settings doesn't mean your data is gone forever. From the 20 phones, Avast managed to recover 40,000 photos (including 1,500 family photos with children and...

(Reuters) - A Beijing court has ruled against Apple Inc by upholding the validity of a patent held by a Chinese company, clearing the way for the Chinese company to continue its own case against Apple for infringing intellectual property rights. Apple had taken Shanghai-based Zhizhen Internet Technology and China's State Intellectual Property Office to court to seek a ruling that Zhizhen's patent rights to a speech recognition technology were invalid. But the Beijing First Intermediate Court on Tuesday decided in Zhizhen's favour, the People's Daily state newspaper reported on Wednesday.

There's triple trouble with electronic health records: patient safety, medical privacy, and data security. And there are at least eight hazards. But much taxpayer money has been thrown at the highly speculative, untested EHR for political and profit purposes. And there are at least eight hazards. But much taxpayer money has been thrown at the highly speculative, untested EHR for political and profit purposes. England has already tried and failed. The National Health Service, which serves a population of 53 million, began building a national EHR system in 2002. By 2007, it missed key deadlines. In 2011, the $20 billion...

Sergey Brin lives in another world. Like every other non-gearhead, he doesn't understand us. He doesn't get why we wrench in our garages, spend weekends at track days, or take off in the middle of the night for a ride. He's like your Aunt Martha, except Brin has the power to change the world. And he doesn't make those awesome cookies. Brin recently joined his compatriot, Google CEO Larry Page, on stage with venture capitalist Vinod Khosla to chat about where Google is headed. In many respects, where Google goes, so goes the world, so naturally, the conversation turned to...

It was a matter of minutes before the internet was overloaded with viral images mocking Brazil for their 7-1 defeat by Germany. Christ the Redeemer, the iconic statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, is normally seen as an image of hope - but the famous landmark was quickly photo-shopped at the expense of the defeated host nation, following their semi-final humiliation. Here are some of the best images from across the web...

The year is halfway over, but there's still plenty of time for new major tech products to hit the market. Here's a look at the most important stuff we're expecting to launch before the end of 2014. 1. All eyes are on Apple's iWatch. For example, it'll be able to track your steps, hydration, heart rate, and other vitals. The iWatch is also said to have a...

Dozens of neuroscientists are protesting Europe’s $1.6 billion attempt to recreate the functioning of the human brain on supercomputers, fearing it will waste vast amounts of money and harm neuroscience in general. The 10-year Human Brain Project is largely funded by the European Union. In an open letter issued Monday, more than 190 neuroscience researchers called on the EU to put less money into the effort to “build” a brain, and to invest instead in existing projects. …

Though there is a link above, this is basically a vanity. I just installed Linux Mint 17 Mate, based upon Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Seems like a pretty decent distro, but it was missing quite a few things that I was used to. Among those things that it was missing was a Bluetooth device manager. Per their recommendations, I downloaded "Blueman" (Graphical Bluetooth Manager) using Synaptic. It allowed me to connect my Bluetooth headphones, but I could not connect the A2DP service (that's the service that provides high fidelity audio streaming from the computer to the device). Without going through the...

It's been clear for some time that the iPad has taken the enterprise by storm as employees tote it to work and companies buy fleets of them. But Apple's PC, the Mac, has never been as dominant in the workplace, until now, according to new research from long-time Microsoft rival, VMware. VMware queried 376 IT professionals and found that they are increasingly being asked to buy and/or support Macs in the enterprise by employees who want Macs, not Windows machines. "Microsoft Windows has dominated enterprise desktops for close to three decades but it appears its reign is coming to an...

YUKON, Okla. - A vigilant mother helps authorities nab an alleged internet predator, just hours after she discovered her teenage son’s conversations with the man on Facebook. The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office says Michael Goddard, 23, of Oklahoma City, pretended to be a teenage girl on Facebook to lure in a 14-year-old Yukon boy and admitted to possibly hundreds of other victims. He was arrested Friday night. Goddard allegedly used the name “Nicole Tinner” and used a fake photo to flirt with hundreds of juvenile boys on Facebook.

The Education Establishment went way too far, and this has presented the country with a unique opportunity for real improvement of the public schools. As never before, parents across the United States will tell you emphatically that they hate Common Core, and they especially hate Common Core Math. The Education Establishment will try to maneuver around this revulsion. Compromises will be offered. The same dumb ideas will be repackaged as something new and wonderful. The challenge is to refuse to compromise. Sometimes a good thing, compromise is now the biggest threat to genuine reform. Our Education Establishment has been selling...

Like the poster at the link, I am currently a Verizon Phone/DSL customer in Massachusetts and just received an email from Verizon stating that they will be raising my bill by $3/month, which already costs 76.00 with taxes, as we currently pay $59.99 for Verizon Freedom Essentials (unlimited nationwide + Canada and PR calling) and "High Speed Internet Enhanced" (approx. 6.50 Mbps speed at my location). No TV is included or needed. However, after i moved less than a 1/2 mile from where I was my Internet speed was approx. cut in half, from around 12 mbps to approx. 6,50....
