I've become super-careful and sensitive to online security threats in recent years, through personal experience an those who I love. One question I have advanced is the wisdom of "unsubscribing" to various junk emails from senders who I have no idea how I've been connected to in the first place. Many of them are political emails, which I can understand, since these orgs get names from databases in political donations and party affiliations. I will readily unsubscribe from org e-mailings I'm familiar with, but what about mystery ones? I'm very reticent to click on ANY link without knowing exactly what...

This is very scary. Anywhere I stopped for more than a couple of minutes in the last few years is shown as a red dot on a world map. The level of detail is very creepy when you zoom in. I didn't recall being in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles or Seattle . . . but zoom in and I'm at the airport.

Ever wonder what happens to the internet after you log off? I bet it never crossed your mind that even though you logged off the internet, your computer is still vulnerable. Yes, if you fail to actually turn the internet off first before you log off, you are leaving your pc's hard drive vulnerable to being hacked. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen enough. Imagine all the vital information you have on your computer that someone could steal. Well, very few people know about this, but there is an OFF button (off button below) that needs...

The stock markets have been on the rise recently, with major indexes like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting record highs. At the same time, speculative assets like bitcoin and gold have also surged to new peaks. While many investors are cheering the gains, some analysts are sounding the alarm that we may be right in the middle of another financial bubble, similar to the dot-com boom and bust of the late 1990s. Gold and Bitcoin Peaks: Are We Heading to Another Dot-Com Bubble? Much of the recent market’s rise has been driven by a small group of mega-cap tech...

TikTok might be entering its flop era as users revealed the reasons why they are quitting the ultra-addictive app that witnessed an explosion in popularity over the past few years. Former TikTok user Keilah Bruce, who found herself constantly neglecting household chores like laundry and dishes, said the app's eerie algorithm seemed to start 'reading her mind.' She stopped using the app last year when content matching her private thoughts began surfacing on her feed, the 27-year-old accountant based in New York shared with the Wall Street Journal. For Samantha Rodriguez, 29, the habit of bedtime scrolling on TikTok took...

There's more than one hole in this story.Even if you don’t run on Dunkin' their doughnuts are pretty much unavoidable. According to ScrapeHero, there are 28,776 locations across the United States alone. Whether you’ve grabbed a Boston Cream and an impossibly large iced coffee at an airport or your coworker brought in a dozen for a birthday, you’re probably familiar with what their doughnuts look like. But would you still recognize them if they were taken outside of their hot pink storefront, placed on sheet trays lined with parchment, and sold at a vegan marketplace? Since 2019, Cindy Snacks has...

The new processor stores data in modified DNA molecules and uses microfluidic channels to perform basic computations. Scientists have created a new biocomputing chip that makes calculations using a DNA substrate, including mathematical operations essential to artificial intelligence (AI) training and big data processing. Researchers described the new biocomputing platform Oct. 19,2023, in the journal PLOS One. DNA is known as the blueprint for life and encodes genetic information, like data can be encoded onto electronic-based storage devices. DNA-based devices have previously been used to encode data on a small scale, but this prototype chip uses DNA to process data...

Former President Trump signaled his opposition Thursday to legislation that could ban TikTok in the U.S. despite his previous support for banning the social media app. In a post on Truth Social, the former president claimed a TikTok ban would benefit Facebook and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, who serves as CEO of its parent company, Meta. “If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business,” Trump said. “I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better. They are a true Enemy of the People!” Facebook banned Trump in January 2021 in the wake...

Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have made a groundbreaking discovery: a galaxy that ceased forming new stars over 13 billion years ago, making it the oldest ‘dead’ galaxy ever observed. The galaxy, which existed a mere 700 million years after the Big Bang, is odd by galactic standards. Now, based on recent findings, it’s also challenging our understanding of early galaxy evolution. In research led by Tobias J. Looser and an international team of astronomers, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has discovered an ancient quiescent galaxy. At a redshift of z=7.3, it is the oldest galaxy...

Within the last 15 minutes, my FB account logged me out. I figured I had just received my latest ban, but it doesn't seem to be the case. My girlfriend texted me and asked if I had been kicked out, as she had too. Most the people I know and work with have also been kicked out, and Instagram is not working, either. Is it a hack? Or some underpaid IT guy just forgot a certificate somewhere?

Gen Zers are getting increasingly near-sighted from staring at their electronic devices all day and face a blindness epidemic if they continue to stay indoors while phone-addicted, a leading eye surgeon warns in a new report. The rates of near-sightedness, or myopia, have been skyrocketing across the world with an increase of 46% in the UK over the last three decades, according to the Daily Mail. In the US, a study from California says myopia has spiked a staggering 59% among teenagers. And Zoomers face mounting risks of developing serious vision problems – even leading up to blindness – after...
