Hundreds of students walked out of classrooms around suburban Denver on Tuesday. They staged the civil disobedience in protest over a conservative-led school board proposal to focus history education on topics that promote citizenship, patriotism and respect for authority.

Dozens of students walked out of classes in Jefferson County, Colorado high schools Friday, but likely not for the reason they were apparently led to believe. According to the Associated Press, students were protesting “a conservative-led school board proposal to focus history education on topics that promote citizenship, patriotism and respect for authority, providing a show of civil disobedience that the new standards would aim to downplay." Ken Witt, Jefferson County Board of Education president, however, told Breitbart News the real issue is a salary dispute with the teachers’ union, a situation that began during last year’s annual union negotiations....

The 48-40 Gardner lead among likely voters in The Quinnipiac University Poll contrasts with two other independent polls released earlier this month that found Udall tied or slightly ahead in the race.

Democratic incumbent Mark Udall and Republican challenger Cory Gardner are locked in a statistical dead heat in the Colorado race for U.S. Senate, according to the latest Suffolk University/USA TODAY poll. Another surprising Quinnipiac poll out this morning puts Republican Bob Beauprez up 10 points over Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper among likely voters, 50 percent to 40 percent. Colorado’s Department of Motor Vehicles mistakenly issued U.S. citizen driver’s licenses to 524 non-citizens, including some illegal immigrants, CBS4 has learned. The licenses look like those given to state residents. The DMV blamed a software problem at a contractor, who is working with DMV to retrieve the licenses and re-issue correct IDs. ...
