  • Enterprise interest in Windows 8 half that for Windows 7 in '09

Enterprise IT decision makers are about half as enthusiastic about the new Windows 8 as they were three years ago about the then-just-released Windows 7, an analyst said today. Employees, however, have a higher-than-expected interest in the revamped operating system when it powers a tablet, second only to Apple's iOS, which runs the iPad. According to David Johnson of Forrester Research, 24% of the more than 1,200 North American and European IT hardware purchasers the firm interviewed in the third quarter said that while they had no plans in place to migrate to Windows 8, they expect to at some...

Although the robot's cameras have yet to catch sight of them, it seems whirlwinds of dust have been skirting around the six-wheeled vehicle. From the data gathered by Curiosity's meteorological station, scientists think dust-devils may even have run over the mobile laboratory. It is not entirely unexpected. Vortices of dust whipped up by the wind have been pictured by previous Mars rovers. "A dust-devil looks essentially like what you would expect from the movies - a tiny tornado that is lifting dust," explained Manuel de la Torre Juarez of Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and a scientist on the Rover...
  • Leonid Meteor Shower: When to Watch

    11/16/2012 6:32:25 PM PST · by BenLurkin · 20 replies
The Leonid Meteor Shower 2012 is set to peak on Saturday, Nov. 17. Skies are looking like they'll cooperate as the Leonid meteor shower gets under way. Space.com has a number of tips for watching the Leonids. The site also has some spectacular Leonids photos. And here's a Youtube video of the Leonid meteor shower. The show follows some nice shows by the Taurids Meteor Shower earlier this month, and the spectacular Perseids Meteor Shower, which wowed gazers in August. Monrovia resident and JPL astronomer Jane Houston Jones doesn't expect the shower to be visible in the Los Angeles area...
  • Ebola may go airborne

The Ebola virus can spread through the air from pigs to macaques, a new study suggests. Transmission of the virus — which causes an often fatal hemorrhagic fever in people and primates — was thought to require direct contact with body fluids from an infected animal or person. But in the new study, published online November 15 in Scientific Reports, piglets infected with Ebola passed the virus to macaques housed in the same room even though the animals never touched. “The evidence that the virus got from a pig to a monkey through a respiratory route is good,” says Glenn...
  • Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue Cancelled by ABC

ABC has cancelled Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue. Both shows will not be receiving orders for additional episodes beyond their first thirteen. Despite a lot of critical support for Last Resort, it struggled on Thursday nights on ABC. 666 Park Avenue meanwhile was the clear ratings weak link on ABC’s Sunday night lineup. Variety reports that both shows will at least air all thirteen episodes.

President Obama promotes the myth that everyone must go to college. That if you don't go, your life will be ruined -- that you will end up waiting tables, or trapped in some other mundane occupation. The truth is, even with a college degree, you may still end up waiting tables, you'll just begin your "career" four or five years later, tens of thousands of dollars in debt. Here is an example of some of the plumb jobs college grads were able to land during the Obama administration. Not just liberal arts majors mind you, but graduates with degrees in...

  • WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH OBAMA'S EXECUTIVE ORDERS?

OK, so I briefly bought into the Internet hype that Obama had signed 927 executive orders. Not true. Just 139. But, I still view him as the "executive order" president who arrogantly treats Congress as irrelevant and does whatever he wants. Just today, the Wall Street Journal ran a piece on Harry Reid's subterfuge in scotching a bipartisan cyber-security bill so that Obama could just write his own version via executive order, a version more friendly to centralized federal government control. And I know that he used executive orders cynically leading up to the election, like the one stopping the...

A Weld County mother got her belly button ring caught in a pool drain on Wednesday. It happened at about 12:48 p.m. the Greeley Family Funplex in the Zero Depth Pool. Fire crews had to drain the entire pool to free the 31-year-old woman. Crews first attempted to turn the ring in order to free the swimmer but were unsuccessful. After several attempts the ring was manipulated so it could be released and free the swimmer. She was not injured.

I did not get to start my 5 gallons of Hard Apple Cider until Tuesday of this week. The raisins along with the water were then processed in a blender until it was a very fine mush. This mush was added to the 5 gal....

A parent in Norfolk, Va., complained that a special ed teacher injected Islamic indoctrination into the classroom. The story broke in the local paper only because the fifth-grade student was slightly injured, and the mother reported it. This teacher spent two days trying to make her students learn a Muslim “hand sign,” according to the criminal complaint. A spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations said that he had never heard of any hand signs in his faith. This odd dispute prompted many questions. Local citizens wanted to know why this teacher was trying to make her students learn Islamic...
  • Marijuana Use Tied to Testicular Cancer Risk

Young men who use marijuana have a higher risk of testicular cancer, a new study found. The study of 455 Californian men found those who had smoked pot were twice as likely to have been diagnosed with testicular germ cell tumors, the most common form of testicular cancer in men younger than 35. "Testicular cancer is on the rise," said study author Victoria Cortessis, assistant professor of preventive medicine at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles. "So we asked, 'What is it that young men are doing more frequently that could account for the...

A Reddit post about a man's positive pregnancy test appears to have alerted him to a testicular tumor. The man, whose name has not been made public, was shocked to see two pink lines after jokingly taking the test, which had been left in his bathroom cabinet by an ex-girlfriend. The strange scene was drawn out as a comic and submitted to the website Reddit, where it drew more than 1,300 comments in three days from concerned strangers. "You may have testicular cancer! Get to an oncologist, tell them you took a pregnancy test and it came out positive," one...
  • Please sign the petition to impeach Obama. Over 30000 signature collected so far.

We request that Obama be impeached for the following reasons: 1. He proclaimed war in libya without getting congress approval first. Article I, Section 8- Only congress can approve to start war. 2. Obamacare is unconstitutional. Forcing US citizens to get health insurance whether they want it or not. 3. Obama disrespects our Constitution calling it flawed and trying to change it even after taking this oath: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution...
  • The 'fiscal cliff' is actually an 'austerity bomb'

Brian Beutler of Talking Points Memo may have been the first person to use the term “austerity bomb” for the expired tax cuts and automatic spending cuts to take effect at the beginning of next year. Paul Krugman adopts the term in his blog entry "The Austerity Bomb" in the New York Times. Beutler wrote: “A giant austerity bomb is timed to go off at the beginning of next year, and the threat of significantly higher taxes and lower spending has Republicans running around the Capitol sounding more like John Maynard Keynes than John Boehner.” The term "fiscal cliff" makes...
