SAN DIEGO - Citing his Catholic faith, San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco promised he wasn't going to lie during his pre-draft news conference. He then proceeded to speak effusively about quarterback Philip Rivers' future with the team.

Political discord increased Tuesday between the San Diego Chargers and Mayor Kevin Faulconer over whether the city will build a new stadium to keep the team from moving to Los Angeles. The two sides exchanged increasingly pointed barbs accusing the other of not dealing in good faith to solve the volatile issue.

I'm watching the 49er San Diego and the QB is doing the call at the line and much the way Peyton Manning yells out "OMAHA!", Karpernik calls out "OBAMA!" I had to run it back 3 or 4 times to make sure.

Until we have some actual progress involving an NFL team moving to Los Angeles, maybe it's best to stop the breathless speculation about which teams will move there. There won't be a team moving to Los Angeles in 2015. ESPN.com's Adam Schefter said commissioner Roger Goodell told the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams – the three hottest candidates to move to L.A. if that ever happened – that there will be no team in Los Angeles next season.

For the first time since the famous "Freezer Bowl," the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals will square off in the NFL playoffs on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium.

Early forecasts for Sunday's game have the temperature reaching into the low 40s, certainly a positive development for the Southern California-based Chargers and a stark contrast from the last time San Diego visited the Queen City for a postseason game.

It is nearly official now. On Thursday night, the Bengals halfway-hammered the final nail in the Chargers' playoff coffin with a win over the Eagles. It made San Diego's chances to reach the postseason even murkier with the necessary road becoming crystal clear. This is a seven-game parlay. If one result does not happen, a Chargers playoff berth is busted. • Sunday - Chargers win (vs. Panthers); Steelers lose (at Cowboys). • Week 16 - Chargers win (at Jets); Bengals lose (at Steelers). • Week 17 - Chargers win (vs. Raiders); Steelers lose (vs. Browns); Bengals lose (vs. Ravens). This...

Professional football should come with a warning label. Like cigarettes, football can be hazardous to your health ... and all too frequently lately it can be fatal. If the sad truth of Junior Seau’s tragic death yesterday is that it came by his own hand, as Oceanside, Calif., police believe was the case, he is only the latest example of the ravages of a sport whose concussive demands seem to be regularly destroying its own. Only a week ago, Ray Easterling, a former defensive back with the Atlanta Falcons, took his life in similar fashion — with a handgun that...

THOUSAND OAKS (CBS) — A toxicology report found that the 18-year-old son of a former NFL quarterback died from a heroin overdose, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said. Thousand Oaks High School backup quarterback Griffen Kramer was found dead in his Agoura Hills home on Oct. 30. Friends told investigators that Kramer began foaming at the mouth while doing heroin with them. Authorities say one of his friends took him home and hoped he would sleep it off. Police have arrested five people in connection with Kramer’s death. Griffen Kramer’s father, Erik, played in the NFL for 12 years.

We have no idea if the San Diego Chargers will go to the Super Bowl this year, but from a sheer class perspective, many of their fans proved to be world champions during the team's preseason contest versus the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 1. During the game at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium, a Club Level server by the name of Heather Allison tripped on a stair, and all the money she'd taken in for the day — about $1,000 — flew out her hands and landed all over the area — on fans in attendance, under seats, and one...

Reality TV personality Tila Tequila has filed a lawsuit against Shawne Merriman over assault accusations from a September incident for which the San Diego Chargers linebacker wasn't charged with a crime. In September, San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis dismissed Tequila's accusations that Merriman choked her and threw her to the ground while she was trying to leave his suburban home.

Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pittsburgh, and Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-San Diego, don’t just differ on what direction the country should go. No, their partisanship runs much deeper than that. Their juggernaut is over who wins the critically important Steelers-Chargers playoff game that will be held in Pittsburgh this Sunday. At stake is a "friendly" wager that will mean lunch for the legislative staffs of whatever team comes up on top. If the Chargers win, Doyle will buy Primanti Brothers sandwiches and Iron City Beer for the meal. If the Steelers win, Bilbray will buy Rubio’s Mexican Food and Stone Brewery Beer....
