A new study finds that compared to people born around 1950, when colorectal cancer risk was lowest, those born in 1990 have double the risk of colon cancer and quadruple the risk of rectal cancer. Dr. Gary Marder in Port St. Lucie has agreed to pay up to $18 million to reimburse the government for Medicare payments on patients who were not ill. Prosecutors allege that Dr. Marder falsely diagnosed patients with skin cancer and put them through medically unnecessary radiation treatments, pocketing millions from the insurance companies. A federal judge Tuesday order a new investigation after a Mesquite teacher's aide admitted to faking a cancer diagnosis to conceal a criminal case in West Virginia. Kevin MaBone, 56, pleaded guilty in October to misappropriating $6600 in taxpayer dollars from 2007-2014. The Obama administration has dropped a controversial proposal that would have required all federally funded scientists to get permission from patients before using their cells, blood, tissue or DNA for research. The University of California says President Janet Napolitano, a former Homeland Security secretary and Arizona governor, is in the hospital due to side effects from cancer treatment. UC said she was diagnosed with cancer at the end of August and her treatment is almost complete. She has continued to work at "full capacity," according to the university, while undergoing the treatment. The world-renown MD Anderson Cancer Center has announced a workforce reduction by 1,000, the CEO of the center said on Thursday. The cancer hospital has had $110 million in operating losses from September through November this year, reported the Houston Chronicle.
