Former Democratic U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday in one of his first major speeches since leaving office this year that he would have liked to have been the U.S. president who ended cancer as we know it. Biden, whose son Beau died from brain cancer in 2015, delivered an emotional speech at the South by Southwest technology summit in Austin, Texas, about continuing the work he led under former Democratic President Barack Obama in the so-called “Cancer Moonshot,” an initiative aimed at speeding up research into new cancer therapies. He spoke of the need for prevention, research...

A new study finds that compared to people born around 1950, when colorectal cancer risk was lowest, those born in 1990 have double the risk of colon cancer and quadruple the risk of rectal cancer. The study is led by American Cancer Society scientists and appears in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. It finds colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence rates are rising in young and middle-aged adults, including people in their early 50s, with rectal cancer rates increasing particularly fast. As a result, three in ten rectal cancer diagnoses are now in patients younger than age 55. Overall, CRC...

"...This decision is a win because it means that Dr B gets to continue to save lives. On Friday, Burzynski’s lawyer and his co-counsel on the case told the board that the majority of the 1,400-plus complaints lodged against Burzynski were dismissed by the State Office of Administrative Hearings. The judge ruled that Burzynski didn’t financially or physically harm any patients named in the complaint."

The war on cancer has created more treatments, but could do more on prevention. In his final State of the Union address one year ago, President Obama announced a “moonshot” initiative to “cure cancer once and for all.” Though the moonshot will be one of Obama’s few health programs to continue under President Donald Trump — its $1.8 billion budget is secure — today, on World Cancer Day, it remains more difficult than ever to imagine a real cure. Take the 50-year-old man diagnosed with prostate cancer in my clinic at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He received a novel...

Cell phones have become ubiquitous over the last few years, along with the debate over whether or not they can cause cancer. While many agencies — including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Food and Drug Administration and National Institute of Environmental Health — say they’ve found no link between cancer and the electromagnetic fields emanated by cell phones, a newly-released document is reheating the argument. It comes from the California Department of Public Health and is called “Cell Phones and Health.” It lists potential risks from cell phones to both adults and children. The 2014 document was held...

It's Friday, and what better way to spend the day that starts with F than talking about Flatulence? Anyone who has accidentally let one rip in a social situation understands the immediate horror associated with getting caught passing gas. But instead of being ashamed when you fart in public, you should embrace your dirty deed with pride, as you may have just helped saved someone's life. Well, that's what a study currently getting some attention might suggest, but it's more complicated than that. The study out of the University of Exeter in the UK found that the hydrogen sulfide gas...

MaBone was hired by Mesquite ISD in August and worked at Wilkinson Middle Schoo as a teacher's aide for students with behavioral issues. The rule is a complex set of regulations designed to make sure federally funded research on human subjects is conducted ethically. The revision to the regulations, set to go into effect in 2018, marks the first time the rule has been updated in 26 years. The initial proposal that...

Doctors and staff members at the center spent a great deal of time getting up to speed in using the program and that took time away from their patients.
