The U.S. had expected the Iraqi army to do more against extremists, president says in acknowledgment of intelligence shortcomingsresident Obama acknowledged that the U.S. underestimated the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, also called ISIL) and overestimated the ability of the Iraqi military to fend off the militant group in an interview that will air Sunday on 60 Minutes.

President Obama largely blamed the United States’ intelligence community in an interview broadcast Sunday for giving an incorrect assessment of the capabilities of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). “Our head of the intelligence community, Jim Clapper, has acknowledged that, I think, they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria,” Obama said on CBS’s ""60 Minutes." Obama said ISIS, also known as ISIL, went “underground” when United States forces fought al Qaeda in Iraq in the last decade. That, along with Syria’s civil war, allowed ISIS to regroup and recruit fighters from all over the world, including...

Months after declaring an Islamic caliphate, Islamic State, which has seized large swaths of Syria and Iraq, is seeking to address a need of any viable nation: women. In Internet posts and social media messaging, the extremist Sunni militants are recruiting women to marry their fighters and have children, part of a larger strategy of state-building. "They are treating the Islamic State as a country that needs women," said Rita Katz, director of the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors online activity by militant organizations. "The message is: 'You are coming to marry someone immediately and have kids and cook.' They're...

Rep. Tim Bishop, D-N.Y., warned during a recent speech that up to 40 radicalized U.S. citizens who have fought alongside the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL or ISIS) have already returned to the United States, where they could pose a terrorist threat. Bishop claims that of the 100 or so Americans who have traveled to the Middle East to join ISIL’s ranks, some 40 have returned and are currently being surveilled by the FBI, according to his remarks, which were filmed and uploaded to YouTube last week.
  • How Will the U.S. Decide Which Syrian Rebels to Arm?

Even assuming President Obama gets the authority he wants, experts say deciding who exactly should get American aid is an exceedingly difficult task. There are vast differences among Syrian rebel fighters—a conglomerate of varying ideologies, social backgrounds, and loyalties. And the questions of who exactly is a Syrian moderate, and whether these weapons will fall into the wrong hands, loom large on Capitol Hill. There isn't a formal definition of a Syrian moderate, said Leila Hilal of the New America Foundation. But implicit in the word, she says, are a few criteria: a Syrian who is a nationalist and is...

President Barack Obama would seek to overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad if American planes were attacked upon entering Syrian air space, Peter Baker of The New York Times reports. If Assad's troops fired at American planes entering Syrian airspace, "Obama said he would order American forces to wipe out Syria’s air defense system," Baker reports. "He went on to say that such an action by Mr. Assad would lead to his overthrow, according to one account."

The world is in the most dire condition it has ever been and Obama is one of those leading the charge for its establishment as an Islamic slave State Obama is allowing ISIL/ISIS to continue its blood lust of beheadings of Christians and others across the world. He has done nothing to stop it and, chillingly, has not even mentioned it except for a passing remark or two. Now, this group of Sunni Muslims (BTW…please remember that Obama’s “family” members—save one who is a conservative Christian shunned by the rest of the family—are all Sunni Muslim Brotherhood)—has beheaded 2 American...

TALLINN, Estonia — President Barack Obama said Wednesday that the United States will not be intimidated by Islamic State militants after the beheading of a second American journalist and will build a coalition to “degrade and destroy” the group. Obama still did not give a timeline for deciding on a strategy to go after the extremist group’s operations in Syria. “It’ll take time to roll them back,” the president said at a news conference during a visit to Europe. Obama’s comments came after he said the United States had verified the authenticity of a video released Tuesday showing the beheading...

The White House is insisting the U.S. is not at war with the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, despite an aggressive air campaign and previously labeling the jihadist group an "imminent threat to every interest we have." "Before getting into the strategy though, there seems [to be] a fundamental, existential question: Is the United States presently at war with ISIS, yes or no?" MSNBC host Chris Hayes asked President Barack Obama's top spokesman, White House press secretary Josh Earnest, on Thursday. Earnest went with "no." "No, Chris. What we are doing is we are working very aggressively...

Islamic State militants capture key Syrian air base - giving them open road to the sea and massive store of weapons and ammunition. Islamic State militants have seized a major Syrian air base, wiping out the last government stronghold in a province dominated by jihadists. The extremists won a week-long battle today to capture the sprawling Tabqa base 25 miles from their stronghold in Raqqa, reportedly killing dozens of soldiers in the process. The base was reportedly one of the military's largest facilities in the region, with several warplane squadrons, helicopters, tanks, artillery and ammunition. Its capture is a huge...

For the second consecutive day, President Obama reappeared at a golf course on the island of Martha's Vineyard, seemingly counting the strokes toward being an ex-President following the release of video showing American journalist James Foley being executed by an ISIS jihadist. There are so many reasons, too many, why the American people now think Barack Obama is about as good at being President as he is at hitting a golf ball. His reaction to the execution of journalist James Foley in front of the world is just the latest. When the going gets tough, the tough really do go...

Published on Aug 2, 2014 An extremely graphic and never-before-seen HD video was recently uncovered, the ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) terrorists brutally capturing and executing 1,500 individuals. The video shows truckloads of hostages being carted away to their death. The ISIS claims these hostages are Iraq’s Army POWs, driven away in truck loads and then shot them all dead. The video caption stated that there were 1,500 individuals. The video shows their end being shot at point blank in several horrific mass slaughters reminiscent to what we see during Nazi Germany. The young teens begged for...

Playing golf AGAIN: Obama hits the links for the second time in two days after solemnly pledging justice for journalist James Foley. President Barack Obama teed off again on Thursday, just 24 hours after pictures of his wide grin on the golf course drew condemnation in the wake of the beheading of American photojournalist James Foley. 'Admit it,' a White House pool reporter emailed the press corps. 'You all made small-dollar bets that POTUS would be playing golf today. And ... you would be right!' 'We are at the Farm Neck Golf Club at 1:13 pm. and POTUS is hitting...

Obama's 'Post Foley' Golf Game Less About The Optics Of Leadership And More About A Disturbing Personal Coldness As readers of this column know, I tend to favor the political and policy positions put forth by President Barack Obama and his administration. That is not to say that, in the effort to provide an honest accounting of my opinions on the issues of the day, there have not been moments where I have found it necessary to criticize the White House when I disagree with their policies and strategies. But that’s my job and I try to do the very...
