The Secret Service said it was investigating how an intruder was able to enter the home of President Biden’s national security adviser last month even though a full security detail was posted outside.

The police chief in Tampa, Florida, resigned Monday after using her position to escape a ticket during a traffic stop involving a golf cart driven by her husband. …. During that stop — which was recorded on video by the deputy's body camera — O'Connor identified herself as the Tampa chief, flashed her badge and said, "I'm hoping you will let us go tonight." … f The deputy issued only a verbal warning instead of a citation. The golf cart did not have a license tag, a requirement for when such vehicles are driven on public streets. O'Connor's husband, Keith,...

U.S. military members experienced concerning spikes in miscarriages, cancer and other serious health issues in 2021, according to an Instagram post … The Jan. 28 post referenced the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database, or DMED, saying, "there has been a 300% increase in DMED codes registered for miscarriages in the military in 2021 over the five-year average." The five-year average was 1,499 codes for miscarriages per year, the post said, and there were 4,182 such codes for the first 10 months of 2021. There was an almost 300% increase in cancer diagnoses and a 1,000% increase in neurological issues, the post...

When the highly infectious Delta variant hit China in the summer, some public health experts were hopeful that the country could soon receive an immunity boost from BioNTech's highly effective mRNA Covid-19 vaccine. In July, the shot was reported to have passed an expert review by Chinese regulators and was in the administration review stage, according to Fosun Pharma, the Chinese partner of BioNTech licensed to produce and distribute the vaccine in the Greater China region. Fosun was even planning to start domestic trial production by the end of August. However, five months later there is still no word from...

A study by Oxford University found the number of people who receive blood clots after getting vaccinated with a coronavirus vaccine are about the same for those who get Pfizer PFE and Moderna MRNA vaccines as they are for the AstraZeneca AZN vaccine that was produced with the university's help.

... Both AstraZeneca's and J&J's shot are viral-vector vaccines, which introduce a coronavirus gene into the body using a genetically engineered common-cold virus. Some scientists are wondering whether the platform itself could be linked to clotting. ... At an American Medical Association webinar on Tuesday, Peter Marks, director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said the US has identified just three CVST cases among the 68 million people who got the double-dose mRNA vaccines. In a Tuesday statement, Moderna also said it had carried out its own comprehensive analysis and found no association between its shot and...

Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!

The Justice Department has given Congress less than 15 percent of the texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page... How many texts have been turned over? Both Justice Department and Capitol Hill sources say the total number is in the 7,000 range, which includes all the texts handed over on two separate occasions. How many texts will be turned over? First, it's not possible to know how many texts from the Dec. 14, 2016 to May 17, 2017 time period will be recovered and turned over. But of the 50,000 the Justice Department already has in hand, officials...

President Trump dredged up a notorious old mystery with his latest bomb at NBC, citing the bizarre death 16 years ago of a young female staffer in the office of then-congressman and current “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough. The story of Lori Klausutis has dogged Scarborough on the Internet since she was found dead in his Florida district office on July 19, 2001. Although Scarborough was out of town — and the medical examiner later ruled she had died after falling and hitting her head on a desk — conspiracy theorists have long speculated, with no reliable evidence, that Scarborough...

Washington (CNN) — Republican Sen. Thad Cochran wants his constituents -- and possibly President Donald Trump, as well -- to know that although he's recuperating from a urological issue in Mississippi, he's not currently in a hospital. "Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm not hospitalized, but am recuperating at home in Mississippi and look forward to returning to work soon," Cochran tweeted Wednesday afternoon.... "My physician told me today I am improving, but recommended I remain at home in Mississippi another week," Cochran said. "I will follow that advice. I will return to the Senate on October 16 in order to...

President Donald Trump is considering Mike Rogers, a former Republican congressman and FBI agent from Michigan, among candidates to replace James Comey as FBI director, a White House official said. Rogers, 53, a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, retired from Congress in 2015 after seven terms to pursue a career in talk radio. He advised the Trump presidential transition team on national security issues but was asked to leave at about the same time New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was removed as head of the transition. Trump fired Comey on Tuesday after what White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders...

...Mr. Trump said in the most recent version of his thoughts on 9/11: “Look, Jeb said we were safe with my brother. We were safe. Well, the World Trade Center just fell down.” ... For Donald Trump to suggest in his syntactically vague fashion that former President George W. Bush bears blame for Sept. 11, which occurred nine months after he assumed office; or for Donald Trump to revisit 9/11 to promote his thoughts on immigration, is frankly disgusting. His remark about President Bush is an utter falsity, and it demeaned the reality of what happened that day. In this...

...These Republicans had just been briefed on a new, bipartisan budget blueprint that would establish long-term federal government spending caps. The plan, a product of months of negotiation between Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, a Republican, and Washington Sen. Patty Murray, a Democrat, lacks many priorities Republicans have fought for during the Obama era. ... Because the new budget deal sets spending levels until 2015, it eliminates the possibility of shutdown battles over the next few years, which serves as a welcomed relief to Democrats and Republicans alike. ... “Most major conservative groups have put out statements blasting this deal,” the...

TRENTON, NJ — Gov. Chris Christie says Superstorm Sandy caused $36.8 billion in damage in New Jersey. Christie is requesting that amount, which is greater than his state's entire budget, from the federal government. Christie says more than 30,000 homes or businesses were destroyed or sustained substantial damage from last month's storm.

U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young has been in Congress since 1970. That was the last time he faced a Republican opponent in a primary, too. Every Democrat who has tried to unseat him has lost badly. Thanks to his longevity and his savvy at funneling federal money to his district, Young has literally become part of the Tampa Bay landscape, with several government buildings and a 15.5-billion gallon reservoir named after him. Now, for the first time in 42 years, the 81-year-old political veteran is facing Republican opposition. Young has drawn not one but two Republican challengers for Tuesday's primary....

Ok, so the "Budget Control Act of 2011" has been rammed through the House on the eve of supposed disaster, and presumably the Senate will pass it today. My question (vanity, hopefully excused by all the lousy reporting that fails to address obvious questions): does not Congress still need to pass a budget for FY 2012, which begins on October 1st? Is there anything in "Budget Control Act" that prevents Congress from having a huge fight over the 2012 budget (threatened shutdown, the usual kabuki dance, etc...)? Or does the Budget Control Act essentially prevent conservatives from seeking big cuts...
