Investing.com – The number of housing starts and building permits issued in the U.S. unexpectedly tumbled in May, dampening optimism over the health of the U.S. housing sector, official data showed Friday. In a report, the U.S. Commerce Department said that housing starts decreased by 5.5% from the month before to hit a seasonally adjusted 1.092 million units last month from April’s total of 1.156 million units, a downward revision from the initial 1.172 million. Cleveland.com reports Lake Erie's last reading put the body of water at 574 feet (175 meters), just 7.3 inches (19 centimeters) shy of an all-time high in 1986. Environmental officials say heavy rains and months of melting snow are responsible for the recent hike in water levels. President Donald Trump has failed at getting the proper message out during his time as a politician and is "sabotaging his own agenda," political analyst Karl Rove wrote in an opinion piece. Consumers confidence fell in November to the lowest level in more than a year, a survey shows. The consumer confidence index dropped to 90.4 from a revised 99.1 in October, the Conference Board said Tuesday. That's the lowest level since September 2014.
