Voters rejected critical race theory this week in Texas by electing more Republican candidates to the state's board of education. Two of those winners, L.J. Francis and Pat Hardy, appeared on "Fox & Friends First" Friday to discuss their victories after they campaigned against CRT. "I think it's absolutely clear that that is the reason why we were successful on Tuesday night. When I started my campaign, I went and I spoke with parents and I listened to the community," Francis said. "And one thing they were talking about is that they reject critical race theory," he said, adding that...

Apparently his past has undergone a thorough scrubbing. Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke told supporters Sunday that he’s never taken LSD and there’s “nothing” he hasn’t already revealed about his past that could come back to hurt his run for office. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke told supporters Sunday that he’s never taken LSD and there’s “nothing” he hasn’t already revealed about his past that could come back to hurt his run for office. The former Texas congressman — who has become known for his propensity for using the “f-word” — also promised again to clean...

A familiar face is running for president. From first lady, to US senator, to secretary of state, Hillary Clinton announced today in a two-minute video that she is running for the highest office in the land -- for the second time. "Everyday Americans need a champion. And I want to be that champion," said the longtime Democrat. "So I'm hitting the road to earn your vote -- because it's your time. And I hope you'll join me on this journey." The election is next year. Clinton's quest to become the nation's first female president was derailed in 2008 when she...

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Corpus Christi police responded to a one-vehicle crash just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday and found that the driver had fled the scene on foot -- but not without leaving behind his prosthetic arm. The accident happened in the 400 block of Highway 286. Police say the vehicle had been going in the wrong direction and was driven off the overpass, becoming airborne before dropping down onto Laredo Street. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year old Juan Gutierrez, fled on foot without his prosthetic arm. He was spotted by police not far from the scene. A...

Hunters from all parts of the country come to Kansas hoping to shoot a buck with a trophy-class set of antlers. Well, for Chuck Rorie, half of the dream came true Wednesday afternoon when he shot what he thought was a nice buck. Instead, the set of eight-point antlers were attached to a doe. “I didn’t think much about it; it just looked like a nice buck when I was watching it and shot it,” said Rorie, of Monroe, N.C. “But when I was skinning it I realized something didn’t look right. It didn’t have the right private parts. “I...

A conventional wisdom bubbled up among media people like myself about the tenor of Republican Dan Patrick’s message on immigration. We concluded that his hard-edged border security focus in his campaign for lieutenant governor was going to stampede Hispanic voters into the waiting arms of Democratic statewides. Wrong. Or at least partially wrong. Patrick trailed Leticia Van de Putte among Hispanic voters by only 52-46, according to NBC’s exit polling on the race. I said “only,” because the 40 percentage range among Hispanics was once a mark of distinction for statewide Republicans. When George W. Bush reached 40 percent among...

Should Medical Reasons Exempt People From Prison? Former Tacoma teacher Keshia Shaw who pleaded guilty to child rape won’t serve prison time thanks to a Pierce County judge who sentenced her to sex offender treatment instead. Shaw will go free thanks to a medical condition known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, causing her to have facial hair, as well as multiple sclerosis. Follow TLR on Google+ “I’m worried that prolonged stay here will turn my conditions into a 200-pound 3-year-old,” Shaw said in court. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- A South Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl he abducted as she rode her bicycle. A jury in Corpus Christi on Monday also sentenced 19-year-old Jacob Musich to 99 years in prison for kidnapping. .... Musich last Wednesday pleaded guilty ...... Two other teens who allegedly helped Musich await trial. Musich’s mother, Sharon, testified her son was addicted to synthetic marijuana. One longtime editor at this newspaper left me a phone message. He said something like: “I’m telling you this now, because I know you’re going to be bugging me later. Texan of the Year for 2013: Ted Cruz, without question.” Cruz, without question. Is that right? Figure, Cruz hasn’t even completed his first nine months in the Senate and already is established as a must quote representing the right wing of the GOP. He’s been courting Iowa voters already despite being a raw novice in elected politics. Doesn’t Cruz fit the bill as political phenom? I think the right wing...

Philip Thomas Burris, Jr., 25, has spent his entire adult life behind bars, but that hasn’t stopped him from having sex with a woman. Unfortunately for him, it was non-consensual sex with a 38-year-old caseworker who used her position to force him to have sex with her. Burris is now suing the State Corrections Department for damages. Burris entered Oklahoma’s Joseph Harp Correctional Center in 2007, when he was 18, to begin serving a 13-year-sentence for attempted armed robbery, burglary, vehicle theft and weapons possession. Caseworker Kasey McDonald was unfazed by his history, nor was she bothered by the three...

FURIOUS passengers staged a sit-down protest on a BA jet after enduring two 'terrifying' aborted flights to London in 24 hours. About 70 refused to leave the plane for five hours as it sat on the runway in Saudi Arabia in temperatures of 50C yesterday. Passengers had screamed and been physically sick as the Heathrow-bound Boeing 747 had to turn round and make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff when its wing flaps jammed on Wednesday. Astonishingly, when they boarded the same plane yesterday the same problem occurred and they had to return to the capital Riyadh again. ........................ In...

CORPUS CHRISTI - A family-run church known to picket military funerals is threatening to protest a memorial service planned for District Judge Tom Greenwell. The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas issued the release this afternoon of their plans to be at the United Methodist Church on Shoreline Boulevard Thursday afternoon. Greenwell committed suicide last Monday inside his office at the Nueces County courthouse. The sheriff's office is still investigating what led to his suicide. A handwritten will was found that left everything Judge Greenwell owned to a 36-year-old man named Albert Fuentes. Greenwell told KZTV back in 2006 that...

CORPUS CHRISTI — Nueces County investigators are working hard to determine whether Tom Greenwell’s position as judge of the 319th District Court had anything to do with his suicide, Sheriff Jim Kaelin said Wednesday morning. “We have to overturn the big stones as well as the little stones ... so everybody in our community is very comfortable understanding why he did what he did,” Kaelin said, adding his office is devoting all its resources to the case. Investigators have strong leads toward understanding Greenwell’s motive. Kaelin said the judge was driven to believe suicide was “the only option he had.”...

Target has apologized for referring to its "plus-size kimono maxi dress" as manatee gray. This is a mammal, after all, that is sometimes referred to as a sea cow. An irritated shopper tweeted what many saw as an insult. Regular sizes were "dark heather gray," but the plus size got the "manatee" label. It didn't take long for Target to zap the plus-size gaffe from its website and issue an apology. A spokeswoman told Today.com on Thursday the retailer was sorry for "any discomfort" and never intended to offend. Spokeswoman Jessica Deede noted that this color was "seasonal" at Target,...
