I concur. I bought a gun from Sportsmen’s Supply when I lived there. There’s a nice gun shop on Almaden Expressway when as well but I don’t remember the name.

Glad you’re not torching them. I always enjoy watching bumble bees and I can attest that they’re not aggressive. I once had one land on my face and walk around my lips for about thirty seconds while I was absolutely still. It tickled a bit but then it flew off.

I was never worried about the honey bees in California either. Since moving back to Arizona a few months ago, I’ve stumbled across nest of Africanized “killer” bees while hiking in the desert. I get away as quickly and quietly as possible. If I get stung by one (they mark you with a pheromone causing other bees to swarm you) my plan is to run like hell as you can outrun them.

  • Spiciest/Hottest Thai Food or any for that matter.

When I clicked on this thread, I would've never guessed I would actually know the place. I recently moved back to Arizona after twenty years in San Jose and I've frequented most of the Thai places in the South Bay. Fantazia is owned by Mon (anglicized as Monica) and her husband. I had known her for years when she was a waitress at Thai Pepper (now Thai Jasmine) in Santa Clara. The good thing about Fantazia is that it's small enough that the cooks are Thai (I believe her husband is the cook). Some of the bigger places hire Mexican cooks and the taste just isn't the same.

Blue Mango off of Coleman is one of the best Thai places. Thai Jasmine next to Santa Clara University is also good. Just ask for them to make the food "Thai Hot". When I would ask for it that way, I would usually still need the bowls of extra chile to spice it up the way I like it.

Adelita's Taqueria on Curtner and Leigh. They make awesome hot salsa and their carne asada torta (sandwich) is to die for.

I'm a bonafide chile head. Part of it is that I have roots going back four hundred years in New Mexico so I have a natural affinity for chiles and you can build up a tolerance over time. I used to struggle with habaneros but I've eaten three today. I also buy the ghost chiles at Sprouts here in Arizona and I can take it but only eat one per sitting so far. There is an even hotter chile called the Carolina Reaper but they're hard to find. I haven't had the flu since 1986 and I think my chile diet has something to do with it.The main thing I miss about the Bay Area are the restaurants. If you like spicy real Chinese food, I recommend Chile Palace (Hunan style) and South Legend (Szechuan style)--both are next to San Jose in Milpitas.

  • Can the GOP use Illegal immigration as a wedge issue to speak to black voters?

Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin have made a case on how we have to reach out to the ‘forgotten man’ and working-class poor. I think we can peel off some of the black votes.

The GOP has a shot to win some of them if they make the case to them directly. I recently assisted with an event which brought in contract labor, with workers paid the California minimum wage. Several of these guys were black, from neighborhoods in Oakland I would never go to. Some were trying to get their GEDs and regretted dropping out of high school. Unemployment for black males without a diploma is 57 %!

I realized it’s a total lie that illegals are needed to do jobs Americans won’t. These guys are competing against illegal labor and it’s hurting them the most. In addition, high gas prices have a terrible effect on their pocketbooks.

We could make the case for punishing companies that hire illegals and lower gas prices through opening up drilling. In addition, we could make the case for good-paying energy jobs and explain how the global warming hoax is hurting our economy..

  • US: ‘Gay Blood Drive Day’ to call for end of gay blood ban

I’m late in seeing these replies. I hurriedly wrote that. The point I was trying to make is that the gay lifestyle is inherently risky for diseases like AIDS. Even if someone like Shilts claims to be monogamous, he is at risk from all of his previous partners and all of their partners etc.

I just know that he seemed to disapprove of the San Francisco bathhouse tradition of anonymous sex. That’s why the disease spread so rapidly in the gay community (plus anal sex is much more likely to result in semen interacting with the blood than straight vaginal sex).

I don’t have a problem with excluding them and agree that monogamy in that community is rare. If I get bored with my wife, I could go to a bar but chances are against me hooking up with someone right away. If a gay man is decent looking, they’ll have no problems hooking up with a complete stranger.

I'm excluded too as a Desert Storm veteran because of potential Gulf War Syndrome. I recently inquired if the ban had been lifted and it hasn't. Doesn't bother me. Sure there are gay men who are in monogamous relationships—but there are enormous numbers that are INCREDIBLY promiscuous. You can see how the AIDS spread so quickly in the gay community in the excellent book by Randy Shilts, And the Band Played On. Shilts, by the way, was in a monogamous relationship and disapproved of that lifestyle, but one of his partners wasn't monogamous. Shilts died of AIDS. The safety of the blood supply is paramount. As long as it is prohibitive to test the blood beforehand, I have no problem with the blanket bans, even though I 'm banned as well.

I second all of the suggestions for AA. I am adopted and found out later in life that both of my biological parents suffered from addiction issues. (My father died before I was born driving home drunk from the bowling alley).

I could didn’t have the bad effects like hangovers to curtail my drinking. After the 2009 financial crisis, I started turning to the bottle and almost ruined my marriage as well. I went into an AA meeting and asked for help. In three weeks I will celebrate two years sober. My obsession to drink was lifted from me.

A word of caution, it took me 15-18 months sober before I noticed positive brain changes. Also, the liver is very resilient. I’m 44 and recently had all of my blood work done. My liver functions were normal. Two years ago I was pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure. Today my blood sugar is fine, my BP is normal as well—without medication. Abstaining from alcohol, losing some weight, and replacing a bad habit with good habits (hiking and riding my bike) changed my life.

Check online for some AA meetings and try to attend some women’s meetings so you can build up a support network and hopefully find a sponsor who has been where you are and can help you.

More than enough in Bangkok to keep her busy. I did a bike tour in the country outside of Bangkok that was awesome. Ko Samui and Phuket are great destinations. For Cambodia, she could go to Siem Reap to see the Angkor Wat. I haven’t been but I hear Chiang Mai is really nice (plus it should be cooler as it is in the mountains up North).

How embarrassing! Putin peed himself laughing when he saw this, I’m sure. Michelle is undoubtedly stronger (and weighs more too). W. was benching over 200 lbs in his 60’s. I doubt Obama could get 100 lbs off of his chest. Remember the media swooning over his shirtless photos in 2008 as if he was some alpha-male masculine god instead of the pencil-necked geek he is. He can’t play basketball worth a darn either. According to Politico he’s given up that charade and sticks to golf (which he sucks at as well).

Not only that—when ICE catches these minors, they are taking them to the parents and reuniting them instead of deporting everyone. Word is out and the parents are sending for the kids know that once they make it across the border, they are home free even if they’re caught. Heck it’s a free trip for the kid if they are caught.

  • Galaxy S5 vs. HTC One (M8): Which is the best Android phone in the world?

I just upgraded to the HTC One M8 and love it! I’m not a fan of plastic phones and that’s always been a turn-off for me with the Galaxy models. The design is excellent. My biggest frustration with smartphones has been the poor battery life. It seemed I was always charging my old Nexus 4 and it was quite frustrating. Sunday, I hiked Mission Peak in Fremont. It took three hours and I listened to music the whole way, while running GPS (Map My Walk). I also snapped photos at the top. By the time I got back to my car, I still had 78% battery remaining. My Nexus 4 would’ve been dead.

In addition the Nexus 4 only had 16GB . The HTC came with 32GB and is expandable so I popped in an old 32GB MicroSD card to quadruple my memory. Finally, the HTC is able to use T-Mobile LTE for amazing download speeds (24 MBPS).

    Thanks for posting the comparison!

Excellent article. One of the most damning books I ever read about the gay lifestyle was “And the Band Played On” by Randy Shilts, who was a gay man. It tracked the early years of the AIDs crisis in North America. Shilts was a gay man who died of AIDS, but it was obvious he didn’t approve of the decadent promiscuity that caused the disease to spread so rapidly. He wrote of the bathhouses in San Francisco (when Dianne Feinstein was mayor), where a man would lay naked on his stomach with a tub of Crisco next to him (to use as a lubricant). Countless anonymous strangers would mount him and ejaculate into his rectum. This kind of hyper-promiscuity is why the disease spread like wildfire in the gay community and the liberals had to create a myth of a heterosexual epidemic to garner the support of the public.

Knife laws are ridiculous because most legislators are idiots. I always carry a knife here in California because that is the most lethal weapon I can legally carry (until I move to Arizona—hopefully in a year or so).

Butterfly knives are illegal because they “look” scary. My Kershaw speed-assist knife opens faster than a butterfly knife and is perfectly legal. My KA-
BAR tanto knife with an 8 inch blade is WAY more lethal than a switchblade and I can carry that as long as it is in the open. (Jax Teller’s KA-BAR USMC knife on the show Sons of Anarchy is legal carried like that even here in California.)

The only time I ever deployed my knife was a couple years ago when I came across a man beating his girlfriend ground and pound style in a Sunnyvale parking lot. I ran at him yelling for him to get off as I pulled my knife and flicked the blade open. He ran away. When the police took the report, they didn’t give me a hard time or even ask to see the knife.

I have one friend who tried to help a guy who was jumped by three gangbangers. When they started beating him, He pulled his knife and stabbed all three. One died a few days later but no charges were filed because his life was in danger. He moved to San Diego though after he heard the Norteños gang had a bounty on his head for killing one of their members.

It’s too late, but an interesting idea. I have a friend who was a law clerk for the Supreme Court in the Philippines. He views the post WWII leaders as idiots for giving up the chance to remain an American territory and possible a state later on like Hawaii. Manuel Quezon famously said “I would rather the Philippines be governed like hell by Filipinos than like heaven by the Americans.” Most Filipinos would agree that is what happened with a few exceptions like Ramon Magsasay
