It appears that she is being freed because of the UK Foreign Office applying pressure on Sudan. Despite having an American husband and two American children, it appears the US State Department and White House did NOTHING to try to secure her release.

Sudan only had 300 million reasons to let her go.

DAMMIT.

(Did I write that or just think it...)

Surely somebody wrote a memo to somebody who wrote an email to somebody else who called somebody. Nothing?

I have lived and worked in South America, North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. We always knew if things were a little bit dicey the American Embassy would get us out of Dodge City. We also knew if things had really turned to politically incorrect sh-t, go to the British Embassy. The Brits would do what was right instead of what was politically correct. That was in the 60s 70s and early 80s. I hope this still is correct for the Brits as I sure as hell know it is not correct for my American Embassy.

Your statement.

It appears that she is being freed because of the UK Foreign Office applying pressure on the Sudan.

Splendid news! Out of politeness I will not comment on the White House here. I can only hope some decent soul, did some fast work on this woman's behalf Stateside. Who knows? What I would like to comment on, is the name Omdurman. Scene of the British/Egyptian forces victory over the Sudanese Arabic forces in 1898. Churchill was there riding in the Cavalry. Possibly one of the last battles in which the forces of Islam took the field. Although they did fight in WW1 in the Middle East and were defeated by Lord Allenby's forces.

This seems to be another victory. One for diplomacy.

Thank you, UK.

See what a little pressure from “outsiders” (UKIP, Tea party) will do?

Why would they? They believe that Sharia Law has its place here - it certainly gives those in power some juicy options to handle "heretics" and "apostates".....
