Not Enough to Boycott A&E; You Have to Cancel Your Cable
Breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood ^ | 12-19-2013 | John Nolte

If you are wondering why low-rated cable television shows and networks not only stay alive but also manage to be profitable, it is due to the bundled cable racket that forces over a hundred million Americans to pay for dozens of channels they don't like and/or watch. For example, if you want Fox News but have to get CNN and MSNBC in the package, chances are very good that CNN and MSNBC are getting a chunk of your cable bill.

Yep, that is right. This racket has been so perfected that not only is failure rewarded, the networks can pretty much broadcast whatever they like because ratings don't matter all that much. And when you have 100 channels owned by a half-dozen or so multi-nationals, they are also pretty much boycott proof.

It is a simple and sad fact that America is already not-watching CNN, MSNBC, Jon Stewart, and others, but they still have an impact because Big Entertainment makes billions from bundled cable and can therefore afford to keep them on the air. The left-wing monopoly on our culture is subsidized not by popular acclaim but by bundled cable.

This means that boycotting or not-watching A&E is not going to matter a whole lot to A&E.

I cut the cable last year because I realized I was only watching 4 or 5 shows anyway. I miss them sometimes but not enough pipe all that other garbage into my house. I just use Netflix and Youtube now. Once in awhile I stream a video off Amazon. Or go to a RedBox. Saves me about $70 a month and when my kids watch a show they never see a commercial! So they're not always wanting this and that and the other. Cable TV is not your friend if you have children.

I canceled mine fourteen years ago.

No one complains, either. Got two teenagers in the house.

Funny - Mr Kitty and I were just talking bout this.

Young folks don’t watch cable and if enough old folks drop it because of something like this, cable TV will be in big trouble!

We dropped cable last year because we realized that none of us were watching it. Took my teenage son 2 weeks to realize that cable was gone LOL

The tv part of my cable bill is minor. We use the data and phone aspect more. Also the on demand. Right now the virtual fireplace and traditional Christmas music is on.

It’s worth it for us to put up with the bundling and extra cost to view things like NASCAR, BBC, local harness racing and ....oooo....Svengoolie on MeTv.

I get everything I need from Netflix, Hulu (unpaid), and YouTube.

But then I no longer watch that many sporting events each year at home.

There are pay per view sites for sporting events on the net, but I think that could get pretty expensive for those who watch a lot of sports.

I'd feel sorry for sports fans who have to make a choice between continuing to watch sports vs. defunding the liberal cable agenda, but it looks like sports is getting gayer every day. Soccer and flag football will fill the cable wires soon.

The “left wing monopoly on our culture” may appear to be a goliath. However decisions, such as the politically correct lynching of the Duck Dynasty patriarch, was made by individuals. These individuals should come forward or should be identified to explain their decision openly. They should not hide like agitated wimps behind a corporate shield.

Posted that very point earlier.

Long live the 'Net. No more Leftwing propaganda jails, we have an infinite number of channels.

With satellite you can call and cancel individual channels, which is what I did with HBO. The lady tried to explain that I wouldn’t save any money because it was part of a deeply discounted package, so I told her to cancel it anyway because I didn’t want my household counted as an HBO subscriber. The number of subscribers in any targeted region is used as part of the formula for calculating the advertising rate schedule. If more people asked to cancel or be blocked from channels the impact would eventually be felt.

This is what I have been saying, cut the cable.

People keep telling me they dont want to miss their favorite show or sports event.

They keep going back to a restaurant that only serves crap sandwiches because, hey, they have free soda!

Cut the cable and tell them you want a la carte. The cable companies and channels will not respond until it hits their bottom line.

Don’t they track ratings by show and network?

That’s a great idea! I’m on the cusp right now. It’s harder to wean yourself off news (Fox) than TV programming—network or cable, so I’ve delayed.

Lester Roloff was certainly prescient about teevee being the idiot box and the new altar of worship. He was saying this back when it was things like GE Theater and things like that.
