As many women bundle up against the arctic air conditioning, their male counterparts one cubicle over have no idea what all the fuss is about. It turns out that science says the office A/C may be biased toward temperatures that more comfortable for men — thanks to a formula from more than 50 years ago.

OCEAN CITY — A group of men from Pennsylvania was charged with assaulting lifeguards Tuesday afternoon on the beach near Eighth Street and attempting to flee by running through Gillian’s Wonderland Pier. About 4:30 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of the beach to assist lifeguards with several intoxicated and loud people causing a disturbance, police said. The men, who were assaulting the lifeguards when they arrived, turned their aggression toward the officers, police said.

Colin Kaepernick spent his Independence Day in a place where many people lost theirs. The former 49ers quarterback posted on social media yesterday about his trip to Ghana, where he visited former slave trading sites as well as touring local villages and a hospital. He posted a short video of the trip, along with the Frederick Douglass quote: “What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence?”

Austria will “very soon” impose border checks and deploy soldiers on its frontier with Italy if the influx of migrants across the Mediterranean does not slow, Vienna's defence minister was quoted as saying. “I expect that very soon border controls will be activated and that an assistance deployment (by the military) will be requested,” Hans Peter Doskozil told the online edition of the Krone daily on Monday.

FRAMINGHAM – A Framingham man who used a fake name for a decade to get a driver’s license is now facing numerous charges and deportation after an observant police officer noticed the man’s accent was off, authorities said. Police arrested Sergio Alvarado, 32, after Officer Francis Torres pulled him over on Waverly Street at 7:15 p.m. because Alvarado’s car’s windows were excessively tinted, according to a police report filed in Framingham District Court on Friday.

New Orleans police have arrested a robbery suspect they say is one of four who carried out a brutal attack on two Boston men who were in the Big Easy for a church conference. Dejuan Paul, 21, is charged with robbery for the attack, which happened about 9 p.m. Saturday in the city’s French Quarter section. The two Boston men, who do computer work for the Unitarian Universalist Association, were in town for the church’s annual General Assembly, which took place from Wednesday to Sunday.

A Brooklyn woman whose mother suffered a heart attack and died after the two feuded over a pet feline can barely remember the fight, she told the Daily News on Wednesday. “I had one drink, and then I don’t know what happened,” Chandra Sutton, 50, said during a sitdown at Rikers Island.

WORCESTER - Fathi Jaara, charged with murder in the 2014 shooting death of 19-year-old Christian A. Obeng, was found not guilty Tuesday in Worcester Superior Court. A jury of seven women and five men deliberated for about eight hours over two days before acquitting Mr. Jaara in the Oct. 2, 2014, shooting death of Mr. Obeng outside an apartment building at 8 Upland Gardens Drive.

Michael Trosclair, 45, and Shari Treba, 42, both face felony neglect of a dependent charges, along with misdemeanor public intoxication charges. Authorities say the pair were in town for a work conference when a witness reported Treba drinking alcohol while breastfeeding a baby outside a downtown bar. According to a probable cause affidavit, around 12:38 a.m. June 16, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to Wild Beaver Saloon at 20 E. Maryland St. on a report that a woman was breastfeeding an infant while drinking alcohol, as well as soliciting customers for beer.

A woman who was shot to death in the Gold Coast neighborhood was among eight people shot early Sunday. In total, 3 people have been killed and 36 others have been wounded in gun violence across Chicago since Friday evening. More than 200 people have been shot in the first half of the month, and more than 1,500 have been shot this year, according to Chicago Sun-Times data. Of those victims, 278 have died.

Lawmakers want to create $5 million in new tax credits for TV and film directors and producers who work in New York — but only if they’re minorities or women. Legislation introduced in both the Assembly and state Senate would require the state to set aside the funds from the existing $420 million Empire State Film Production Tax Credit.

State health officials are investigating a puzzling outbreak of mumps in Latino communities in Boston, Chelsea, and Revere, and have advised health care providers to be alert for additional cases. The state Department of Public Health has recorded 12 mumps cases since the end of March. Previously in Massachusetts, mumps has been found chiefly among vaccinated college students and others connected to colleges and universities. But the dozen new cases involve people aged 20 to 41 with no known links to higher education.

AUBURN, MA (WHDH) - The wife of an illegal immigrant arrested twice in one day, who is now accused of crashing into a family of four while drunk inside, says her husband didn’t mean to do it. Jose Acevedo, 43, was drunk when he rear-ended the family’s SUV Thursday in Auburn, police say. But his wife says it was all an accident and is angry the focus is on immigration status.

Nonagenarian Jerry Bozzo became the oldest trainer in Thoroughbred history to win a race when he sent out Cotton Tooyah ($5.60) for a 4 ½-length victory in Saturday's second race at Gulfstream Park. Still actively training a small stable at the age of 96, Bozzo surpassed the record of the late Noble Threewitt, who visited the winner's circle for the last time two months after celebrating his 95th birthday.
