Unlike their Central and Eastern European neighbors, most Czechs don’t believe in God

The vast majority of adults in Central and Eastern Europe identify with a religious group and believe in God, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey of 18 countries in the region. But those in one country are an exception to this pattern: the Czech Republic, where a majority of the population is religiously unaffiliated and does not believe in God.

Saline County Nebraska had a large number of pioneer Czech settlers. The majority had no discernible religion. It was not a good situation. Saline County had the country’s if not the world’s highest rate of suicides. Now Saline county seems to vote Dem. Don’t know if it is the Czechs or the immigrant meat packers.

I sometimes think that maybe people who “don’t believe” really have never been given the opportunity to know God.

>> what about the Slovaks? <<

From what I’ve heard, they don’t particularly like Czechs. And many Czechs apparently look down on the Slovaks as a bunch of country bumpkins.

Moreover, even though the Czech and Slovak languages are quite close, the Slovaks seem to be closer in culture to the Hungarians.

And they haven't made a connection with being invaded and oppressed either.

Interesting that Georgia has the highest rate of belief. They have a cross flag and a non-Slavic language. Too bad they contributed both Stalin and Beria to world history.
