And for the first time since 2013, humans outnumber bad bots on the Web -- but that doesn't mean humans are beating bots, new study shows. Nearly all bad bot traffic on the Web imitates human user behavior in some way or attempts to evade detection, while humans now encompass more than 54 percent of all website traffic after being outnumbered by bots the past two years. New 2015 bot data from Distil Networks, which draws from its Hadoop cluster that includes 74 billion bot requests and data culled from its customer base shows, that bad bot traffic decreased from...

Nowhere is Obama more misguided, I think, than in his understanding of the scope of the Muslim problem. Listen to him: “There is a violent, radical, fanatical, nihilistic interpretation of Islam by a faction — a tiny faction — within the Muslim community that is our enemy, and that has to be defeated.” I grant you that a tiny portion — a teeny-tiny portion — of Muslims carry out atrocities: fly planes into buildings and so on. If that were the extent of our problem, we would have a happily manageable problem. But a huge portion of Muslims either cheer...

Nate Silver: When I was filling out my projections, I was a little bit surprised that I had Trump coming up short of 1,237 since I thought I was being fairly optimistic for him in individual states. However, once you account for the facts that (1) there are quite a few uncommitted delegates and (2) Trump isn’t likely to do so well in less populous states west of the Mississippi, which is a fair bit of what’s out there — well then, Trump has to do really well everywhere else.

Most presidential candidates would steer clear of a state after famously bashing it as a symbol of everything wrong with America, but Ted Cruz is a man who doesn't let being hated stand in his way. Cruz kicked off his feud with the Big Apple back in January, when he declared "the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro–gay marriage, focus around money and the media." Though Donald Trump responded with a burn so bad Cruz was forced to applaud, the senator went on to appeal to Iowans with an anti–New York ad. And just...

Gramm left a long record as a dedicated financial deregulator on Capitol Hill, with much of his effort aimed at freeing up trading in derivatives. That's why he's often identified as one of the godfathers of the 2008 financial crisis, which was spurred in part by banks' imprudent trading and investing in these extremely complex financial instruments. Gramm's previous stint as a presidential campaign advisor ended inauspiciously. That was in 2008, when he served as co-chairman of John McCain's presidential run. Gramm's most notable moment in that position came on July 10, 2008, when he dismissed the developing economic crisis as...

Exxon’s stock price will see no major impact, the company’s behavior is unlikely to change (at least, I hope so), and there is absolutely no connection between oil company equity prices and the world’s emissions of greenhouse gases. If the Rockefellers and their supporters want to accomplish something, offer a prize for new, low-carbon energy sources or methods of carbon sequestration. Lobby for a carbon tax, and price reform in the many countries with subsidies for fossil fuel use. Pressure the Russians to lower prices for natural gas, especially to China. Invest in a gas pipeline to India from the Caspian...

Many voters have already heard of Donald Trump’s plan to ban all Muslims entering the country “until we can figure out what’s going,” as he suggested in December. His other ideas have included bombing oil fields controlled by the Islamic State, shutting down portions of the Internet used by the Islamic State for recruiting, and going after the family members of the Islamic State. ... “This is, as I understand it, a war for the soul of Islam and if that is the case, the Muslim countries in that area have got to stand up and they have got to fight. They have got to provide...

In an effort to attack Hillary Clinton on foreign policy tonight, Rudy Giuliani told Bill O’Reilly that “Hillary Clinton could be considered a founding member of ISIS.” He said that Clinton hasn’t shown leadership in the war on terror, saying she had her chance when she was Secretary of State, when she was “part of an administration that withdrew from Iraq.” O’Reilly pointed out Clinton couldn’t have forced President Obama to do anything short of resigning. Giuliani added, “Which is what a patriot does.” A little later, O’Reilly took a guess Giuliani’s getting ready to endorse Donald Trump. Giuliani didn’t...

Jeffrey Goldberg’s appraisal of the “The Obama doctrine”, that has caused a furore in response to the president’s scathing views on America’s Arab allies, has done us a favour. Now we know beyond question where we stand in the US global pecking order, which appears to be way down the scale of the Obama administration’s priorities. Barack Obama no longer believes that the Middle East is “terribly important to American interests” but insists that the Saudis need to share the region with their Iranian foes in the form of a “cold peace”. Of great concern is his failure to disagree...

In September 2015, Sarao's lawyers argued against his extradition on the grounds of his recently diagnosed severe Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism which often affects people with high intelligence, and that his current "mental health was fragile. They also argued that Sarao's conduct, as it is described in U.S. court filings, does not amount to a criminal offence in the U.K. The latter was seen as a key focus for the hearing on Wednesday which decided on his extradition. If forced to go to the U.S., he would face 22 counts of fraud and commodity manipulation, carrying a maximum...

Right after the attacks in Brussels on Tuesday, Donald Trump did something bizarre. He spoke the truth. Appearing on Fox and Friends, the GOP presidential frontrunner declared that, “This all happened because frankly there is no assimilation.” OK, Trump’s comment wasn’t entirely true. The attacks are also likely related to the fact that Belgium is participating in the U.S.-led bombing campaign in Iraq and Syria. ISIS said so when it claimed responsibility. And terrorism scholars have shown that the group doesn’t attacks Western targets at random. It targets countries—in monstrous and utterly unjustifiable acts of murder—that are fighting it militarily...

Here's Zdziarski's possible explanation ... [Most of the tech experts I’ve heard from believe the same as I do – that NAND mirroring is likely being used to some degree to brute force the pin on the device. This is where the NAND chip is typically desoldered, dumped into a file (likely by a chip reader/programmer, which is like a cd burner for chips), and then copied so that if the device begins to wipe or delay after five or ten tries, they can just re-write the original image back to the chip. This technique is kind of like cheating...

America isn't broke. Nor is it on the verge of a government debt crisis (whatever "crisis" even means for a nation whose debt is printed in a currency that is both its own and the world's reserve). America is not in decay, and the last thing the U.S. should do is rashly withdraw from a dangerous world because of those mistaken beliefs. This should be especially clear after the Belgium terror attacks. Yet retreat is just what Donald Trump seems to be proposing. In an interview with The Washington Post editorial board Monday, Trump questioned the U.S. role in NATO...

U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Argentina on Wednesday to reset diplomatic relations and strengthen trade ties with a country that was part of South America's left-wing bloc until pro-business President Mauricio Macri took power in December. Obama's two-day visit marks a rapprochement after years of sour relations and is a sign of support for Macri's investor-friendly reforms aimed at opening up Latin America's third biggest economy. Obama and his family landed in Buenos Aires shortly after 1 a.m. and were met by Argentina's foreign minister, Susana Malcorra, before being whisked away to the U.S. ambassador's residence. The U.S. leader...

<p>"I think I'll bring in states like Michigan that was devastated by job loss, states like New York," Trump told CNN.</p>
<p>Probably not. The last Republican to win New York in a presidential election was Ronald Reagan in 1984. Michigan hasn't gone Republican since 1988. But Trump's boasting does raise an interesting point: There's a case to be made that Trump could reshape the electoral map in a way that Ted Cruz couldn't.</p>

As he told the network that his son was present during both the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and last year's Paris attacks that killed 129 and injured 352, Kymberly added Mason had been "calm and composed" in the past. "This is his third terrorist attack," Chad continued. "This is the third time that sadly in our society that we have a connection to a bomb blast. We live in a dangerous world and not everyone is kind and loving."
