  • Report: Bill Belichick walks away from Goodell speech

It's no secret the Deflategate controversy caused a rift between commissioner Roger Goodell and the New England Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick doesn't seem to be bothering to hide his personal feelings for the commissioner at the NFL annual spring meetings this week. Goodell is giving a speech to head coaches, owners, etc. in a banquet room. Belichick is walking down the hall in the opposite direction. — Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) March 20, 2016 It's not clear whether Belichick was intending to make a statement against Goodell with his lack of attendance, but it would certainly fit his personality.

Donald Trump on Friday urged a roomful of voters to boycott the tech giant Apple so long as its chief executive, Tim Cook, refuses to comply with a court order to assist the FBI with hacking into the cell phone of San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook. "First of all Apple better give the security for that phone," the Republican presidential hopeful said during a campaign rally in Pawleys Island, S.C. "What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such time they give that security number. How do you like that?" "I just thought of it," Trump noted,...

Donald Trump can talk all he wants about his sudden conversion to being a full-throated supporter of the right to keep and bear arms. His wallet says otherwise. A political ad that shows a group of children playing with a Donald Trump doll accuses the Republican presidential candidate of giving money to Democratic politicians.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump defended federal funding to Planned Parenthood during Saturday night's presidential debate in South Carolina and also did not back away from his past support of impeaching former President George W. Bush. At times during the debate, the discussion led to very heated back-and-forth exchanges between candidates, most of which involved the billionaire real estate mogul who currently leads by wide margins in most South Carolina Republican nomination polls. After Trump used former President Ronald Reagan to defend himself as "flexible" for changing his mind on certain issues like abortion and his views on Democratic frontrunner...

Super Bowl I between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 15, 1967 was the only Super Bowl ever to have been broadcast on two television networks. Friday, on the 49th anniversary of the Packers' 35-10 win over the Chiefs, it will be shown again for the first time since. The NFL Network announced that it will re-air Super Bowl I for the first time ever at 7 p.m. CST Friday. Originally aired by NBC and CBS -- the official broadcasters of the AFL and NFL, respectively -- the tapes of Super Bowl I were either lost...

Talk radio host Mark Levin criticized Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his remarks on ethanol, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and ethanol, arguing Trump “really screwed up,” and particularly criticized Trump’s position on ethanol as “pandering” and asking, “why would anybody support that who runs as a Republican?” on Monday. Levin said, “I am not going to defend reckless comments, where a candidate or candidates defend the poison that is the Republican establishment, especially [Sen.] Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)48% in the United States Senate. I am not going to defend blowing out our federal budget subsidizing agribusiness and leftists...

Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh inched away from GOP front-runner Donald Trump Monday, suggesting on his radio program that the casino tycoon's recent criticism of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, raises red flags. "You cannot legitimately and honestly criticize Cruz's competence, his intelligence, his abilities. He's as bright and competent and capable and smart as anybody, and they all know it," the host said Monday, "A genuine conservative, even in the Republican field, would not go after Cruz this way. So that just raised a red flag for me, made me somewhat curious." Limbaugh's comments came as part of a broader...

David Ortiz has provided Boston Red Sox fans with countless memories. He helped end the 86-year World Series drought in 2004, played a key role in raising another championship banner in 2007 and won MVP of the 2013 World Series in one of the most historic performances in postseason history. In addition to that playoff success, Big Papi has created many more special moments with walk-off hits, towering home runs and an engaging personality. Ortiz reached another milestone in his Hall of Fame-worthy career Saturday by hitting his 500th career home run in a win against the Tampa Bay Rays....

Lost in the fun and frivolity of Tuesday’s ESPN hatchet job on the Patriots was this companion piece in Sports Illustrated, which I never got to. Of course nothing pleases the national pundits and fan bases in other markets like accusing Patriots fans of being crazy, paranoid, conspiracy-theorist nutjobs, and you know how much I hate incurring their scorn. So I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that two of the leading sports media outlets simultaneously came out with almost identical articles dredging up the same tired, unsubstantiated rumors about an eight-year-old Spygate story and both conveniently posted them at the...

Belichick and his staff talk about everything from calculating game plans to making decisions in the heat of the moment. • NFL Power Rankings: You'll hate this list -- unless you're a Cheeshead

There will be a lot of you scratching your heads when you see my first Power Rankings for the regular season. You will then do one of two things: Get mad and put a not-so-nice comment on the bottom, or think I just jinxed your team's chances. These rankings reflect what happened when I played out the entire 2015 season. That's why teams that you would expect to be in the top five aren't there, a team like the Seattle Seahawks. They are ninth in these rankings because I expect them to be a wild-card team, not win the division....

"The regular season starts tomorrow morning and I can't wait to fully commit my energy and emotion to focus on the challenges of the 2015 NFL season," Brady said in the statement. "I want to thank my family, my friends, all of the fans, past and current players and my teammates for the support they have given me throughout this challenging experience. I also want to thank Judge Berman and his staff for their efforts to resolve this matter over the past five weeks. I am very grateful. My thanks also to the union's legal team who has fought so...

Tom Brady will be at next Thursday’s season-opener at Gillette Stadium, but Roger Goodell will not. According to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports, Goodell will not be in attendance at Sept. 10’s game between the Patriots and Steelers. He reports that Goodell and the NFL believe the focus should be on the game and festivities. The Patriots will be raising their Super Bowl banner and typically the commissioner is in attendance at the opening game. Brady and the NFLPA beat Goodell and the NFL in the Deflategate case, as on Thursday Judge Richard Berman nullified Brady’s four-game suspension.

Tom Brady had a solid practice against the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday, according to those on hand in West Virginia, but it seems he had an even better day in court — even though he wasn’t there. “Colts did better against Pats than the NFL did (Wednesday) against (NFL Players association attorney) Jeff Kessler,” Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel tweeted after the hearing concluded at the U.S. District Court in New York. Wednesday “was more of a blowout than the AFC Title. Kessler all but dropped the mic at the end,” Boston Herald legal columnist Bob McGovern tweeted after witnessing...

Tom Brady had his first day in a real courtroom with Roger Goodell today, and the NFL was basically facialized by Judge Richard Berman. To say it was a complete disaster for Goodell would be the understatement of the century. It was the beginning of the end for the NFL and their arbitrary, inhumane, illogical system of punishments. And the best part is that this was the judge that the NFL handpicked. Even with the deck stacked in their favor, Goodell’s witch hunt blew up in their face. ... First Berman got the NFL’s lawyer, Daniel Nash on the stand...

The first round of legal sitdowns involving Tom Brady, Roger Goodell and Judge Richard Berman are complete, and while there’s probably a few more sessions in store for both sides — and Berman reiterated that he had not made up his mind — it initially appears that Brady has emerged with a legal win. While Berman hammered at both sides, the key points came down to whether or not there was some sort of direct evidence that implicated Brady in the scheme. Berman pressed NFL lawyer Daniel Nash for a smoking gun in the case, and NFL attorney Daniel Nash...

Jets quarterback Geno Smith has a broken jaw after a fight with a teammate and will be sidelined for the next six to ten weeks, according to New York head coach Todd Bowles. “He got cold-cocked. Sucker punched, whatever you want to call it, in the jaw,” Bowles said of Smith, who had been anointed the starting quarterback earlier this summer by the Jets’ coaching staff.

“The NFL’s fundamental failure to conduct an expeditious, fair, honest and consistent approach to rules enforcement undermines the entire game. The league needs to reconsider its suspension of Tom Brady, and use this unfortunate episode as an opportunity to correct a terrible injustice to one the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.’
